Todays bowlers bowl much faster than these guys but these guys bowl more bouncers since they are tall. But they are slower and todays batsmen face faster bowlers than the yester years.
The most successful off a handful of those who did really well against this pace battery of WI from mid 70s and early 80s was Waseem Raja, brother of Rameez...he averaged 57 against this bowling attack, even scoring tons of runs in their own backyard.
Imagine how awful would Tendulkar or Laxman be against Garner....absolutely no clue they would have, as even Pedro Collins terrified Sachin Tendulkar some years back.
@kolabapandithaya ... biggest joke of the history hahahaha such an ordinary bowler praveen kumar compare with one of the greats of all time Joel Garner... hahaha biggest joke on earth
Sunil Gavaskar is the only person in that era who played very successfully against these best all time pack. No escape. Marshal, Holding, Andy, Garner. Their unquestionable and incomparable caliber makes Gavaskar one of the greatest all time.
now this is hostile fast bowling, but then the bowler never abuses, swears at the batsman, this is in sharp contrast to the so called aggression shown by fast bowlers today who i may say are nothing in comparison to garner, marshell, andy roberts, holding, ambrose.
A famous game where Garner ripped through the Aussie top order, had em 4/50 odd and then Border hit a counter attacking unbeaten 100 with support from Phillips, got Aus to a competitive score and then the Aussie bowlers shocked the Windies and caused a huge upset.
Hey Robe, nice video this and an even nicer channel up there. Thanks for all this stuff. Some of this is so rare that we would never have known about it. Appreciation.
@dyogi4u Garner was an odd bowler for sure, killer short ball and killer yorkers, at an unbelievable height. Insane bowler, he just never got hit around.
@robelinda2 Growing up, watching Ambrose was an experience and then one day, i see Garner. The first sighting of Garner was something. I heard a few (Boycott in particular) rating Ambrose higher than Garner mainly because of variety and some seam movement. Though both were very accurate and hard to get away, many felt Ambrose was a tad higher.
@dyogi4u Yeah Ambrose for me was more lethal, he was a smarter bowler I think, you just wonder how anyone scored runs against those guys. No loose balls ever.
@robelinda2 Ambrose was one of the most calmest bowlers i have seen. He seldom got angry or sledged. Guess when u have the ability to hit them sledge them. Never ever saw big action until you tube thanks a lot man. If ever in singapore beer is on me.
I know a fella who batted against Garner on a west indian glass top back in JG's hey-day. Said the ball was absolutely screaming past his ears off a good length haha
I saw Garner, Ambrose, et al at their peaks. Ambrose, Marshall, Lillee were all great at their peak, Garner was plain terrifying. If I had to pick an all-time best of team, ODI or test doesnt matter, Garner would be first pick.
Hats off to you to get the golden moments for great WestIndies team. Please upload the Roy Fredricks 165 at Perth 1974-75 series. This was the series which made the Super Cat to go for all pace attack. Once tons of thanks for posting... Have read these match reports in magazine got a chance to see it video
You know what Robbie, if you can get yourself up for putting a video collection of the Windies quiks serving up some chin music during the 80's, that would be an awesome vid. Its probably a longer term project, but worth considering. nothing of that kind on the net, yet we all hear about the legendary short stuff they dished out when they were on top.
@robelinda2 sad - I am speaking to some West Indians (here in the US) and hoping they can get me footage from the 1974 - 1981 matches in the West Indies. lets see.

"How do you play bowling like that? " try letting them go through to the keeper. Fuck me, they didn't even have to ply at those deliveries.

As a bowler, had I been batting to him and he bowled a wide one which I left, I would've walked. Fuck that.

@robelinda2 rob...just very occasionally, he got hammered..I can recall one over in
Sharjah, he got clouted for three sixes by Imran Khan...was last over of Rothman's Sharjah Cup 1985/86. Imran returned with 25* off 9 balls.

They look lethal in slowmo. Would not fancy that myself.

Commentator, aside from saying: "That's a lethal delivery" twice, also said that Joel Garner is a great one day bowler.
Joel Garner is a great bowler in ANY form of cricket.

@cockywatchman1976
Garner was deceptively fast. Most days he would bowl moderately fast for a quick, but on occassions, he would crank it up.
