Todays bowlers bowl much faster than these guys but these guys bowl more bouncers since they are tall. But they are slower and todays batsmen face faster bowlers than the yester years.

The most successful off a handful of those who did really well against this pace battery of WI from mid 70s and early 80s was Waseem Raja, brother of Rameez...he averaged 57 against this bowling attack, even scoring tons of runs in their own backyard.

Imagine how awful would Tendulkar or Laxman be against Garner....absolutely no clue they would have, as even Pedro Collins terrified Sachin Tendulkar some years back.

Sunil Gavaskar is the only person in that era who played very successfully against these best all time pack. No escape. Marshal, Holding, Andy, Garner. Their unquestionable and incomparable caliber makes Gavaskar one of the greatest all time.

A famous game where Garner ripped through the Aussie top order, had em 4/50 odd and then Border hit a counter attacking unbeaten 100 with support from Phillips, got Aus to a competitive score and then the Aussie bowlers shocked the Windies and caused a huge upset.

@robelinda2 Growing up, watching Ambrose was an experience and then one day, i see Garner. The first sighting of Garner was something. I heard a few (Boycott in particular) rating Ambrose higher than Garner mainly because of variety and some seam movement. Though both were very accurate and hard to get away, many felt Ambrose was a tad higher.

Sharjah, he got clouted for three sixes by Imran Khan...was last over of Rothman's Sharjah Cup 1985/86. Imran returned with 25* off 9 balls.

Garner was deceptively fast. Most days he would bowl moderately fast for a quick, but on occassions, he would crank it up.

I saw Garner, Ambrose, et al at their peaks. Ambrose, Marshall, Lillee were all great at their peak, Garner was plain terrifying. If I had to pick an all-time best of team, ODI or test doesnt matter, Garner would be first pick.
