Not to say this isn't a touching idea - it is! But only in San Francisco will you find this sort of thing. Not to be overly academic, but the reason you find this there is not because it's a loving culture, rather it's largely a culture that feels unloved and left-out. SF has a large "outcast" culture (think homosexuals, etc).
