  • I live in NC... and we've had a lot of rain this spring into early summer...and yep, I have had the dog vomit slime mold the size of a pizza (like the girl says).

I've cleaned it up and then by the next morning, it's back!!

Not that I want a drought, but, it might be nice to have a few dry days so that this bright yellow goop will go away! :>)

  • wow! fascinating. i believe i have seen this stuff "in the wild" but not lately.

  • I had a slime mold pet. I fed it with oats

  • now why haven't I seen one anywhere in texas?

  • i have never been to America but texas sounds like one of the warmer places they like it cold and damp you should look near the ground in a forest or anywhere real mushrooms tend to life

  • I used to have one as a pet when i was like 8, then my mom got mad at me, said it was vomit, put hand sanitizer on it, stepped on it, cut it, and threw it away.

  • LOL! I bet it divided into a million pieces and is still alive somewhere : P

  • Not to be mean, but that girl sounds like she's being told what to say through flash cards off-screen. But slime molds are just absolutely fascinating.

  • disagree.

  • cool video i love slime molds.

  • My pet slime mold can dance! Of course, it's only to REALLY slow music. 5 stars!!

  • LOL!

  • Slime molds? Kinda like Republicans? Oops -- wrong venue.

"Eat and move." Well, one more thing than my cat does!

  • resemblance to politicians living or dead is entirely coincidental! ; ]

  • : ))

  • I am so glad you are showing young girls in science. Teach kids they can be anything regardless of who they are. Very cool. I also think slime moulds are cool too.

  • thank you so much! i don't believe i have heard from you for a while. i hope things are well.

  • Slime mould, my new fav creature. Informative!

  • i had seen it in wild places before...and i did think it was from a dog...

  • Great video.

It is wonderful to see a youngster so informed, so enthused and so able to communicate.

  • yeah we're looking at doing this with more kids...they are very bright!

  • They just "grow" places? Hmmm!

  • lol...yeah i don't know how they reproduce...the 10 year old is the expert here....

  • She's 10 years old?!? Wow, I feel dumb now...

  • but at least the future is in good hands! : )

  • Hmmm... Maybe I should ditch being a volunteer at Science North and go here... Alot more interesting stuff.

  • I'm glad that I installed the ultra-violet light in my air conditioner to kill mold.

  • : )

  • You growing mary jane in there?LOL JK

    Did you really have mold?

  • I love icky stuff!!!! I never thought of mold as moving...especially like a caterpillar...all those horror movies were right!!! AHhhhhHhHH.

  • hee hee

  • I've seen them, in the woods of OH. You don't see too much of this, so far south, as I am now. It's too damn dry, here!

    Yummy! LOL! ;)

  • i believe these infested Texas so badly one time that people thought it was actually an alien invasion...it was Texas that got this young girl interested.

  • I never thought much about them- just figured it was another forest fungus. Now, I'd be interested to see what the effects of global warming are going to have on such a species. (???)

  • There's some in the norwalk:Pleasant St. Woods still. Under the old decreped bridge about a half a mile down the river.
