That's actually a very good point they're making. The legal dispensary, by law, will not sell a minor anything, the dealer, who can't be prevented from being near a school, doesn't give two craps about how old his customers are.
Even though I'm for medicinal marijuana and for legalizing altogether, these states are barely regulating. Medicinal marijuana has been legal in Canada for ages, but it is hard to acquire, because you ONLY get it when you actually need it. People in Colorado and California go to the "right" doctor and get medicinal marijuana for headaches.

If there are enough schools located in a given area, this will effectively ban marijuana through swaths of Colorado, right? My city and many others enhance the drug possession and distribution sentences of offenders within these school zones. Nearly the entire city is a "school zone;" thus jacked up sentences are the norm. That may only be the case in densely populated areas, but hey, baby steps ...

I agree that the war on drugs is stupid, but keep this in mind: 1000 feet is only a little more than three football fields. That's ridiculously close. You could probably look out a window in the school and see it if a dispensary is that close. I've seen a few medical marijuana dispensaries, and although "Marijuana Sold Here!" is not in flashing neon, but they definitely don't keep it a secret. I wouldn't want my kids going to a school everyday if its neighbor is selling currently illegal drugs.

If there are enough schools located in a given area, this will effectively ban marijuana through swaths of Colorado, right? My city and many others enhance the drug possession and distribution sentences of offenders within these school zones. Nearly the entire city is a "school zone;" thus jacked up sentences are the norm. That may only be the case in densely populated areas, but hey, baby steps ...

I agree that the war on drugs is stupid, but keep this in mind: 1000 feet is only a little more than three football fields. That's ridiculously close. You could probably look out a window in the school and see it if a dispensary is that close. I've seen a few medical marijuana dispensaries, and although "Marijuana Sold Here!" is not in flashing neon, but they definitely don't keep it a secret. I wouldn't want my kids going to a school everyday if its neighbor is selling currently illegal drugs.

If I owned a dispensary, I wouldn't want to be within 1000 yards of any school. Great way to get robbed. It's very easy to sneak out of school if you just put your mind to it. I'd been trying to sneak in that mug every day right around lunch time. I wouldn't put it past some 3rd and 4th graders not to, at least, try. I guess CO schools are gravy like that, but I don't see it. Better there than some deserted area full of strip clubs and pawn shops, buy I'd want to see lots of cops about.

@JohnSmith88823 theres something called a vaporizer. im sure you can figure out what it does. so that takes care of that. but the real point is, what business is it of yours if people want to smoke something in their own homes to relax and feel good? leave people alone.

Leave people alone? I only stated the effects of marijuana, I never said anything about its legalisation or whether people should have the right to smoke it. It just goes to show how insecure you are in my opinion.

But in all seriousness, the prohibition on marijuana is rediculous, I use it im not gonna deny it, the last time weed made me OD was hmmmmm...NEVER! The goverment shouldnt tell me.what i can and cant do with my own time, there is nothing wrong with sittin down lighting up a joint, blunt, bowl or whatever someone uses and just unwinding from a day at work or in my case, make some music while smoking.

How about they the feds crack down on churches within 1000 feet of schools as well. They can just be just as detrimental to the brain. (not that i believe pot is all that detrimental.)
