Well, the "busybodies" you refer to turned out to be the Catholic Church itself, who objected to the crucifixion of Sister Magdalena, played by Irish McCalla (see my clip, "Five Gates To Hell (1959) - Irish McCalla Scenes"). That's why we only got to see her hand. They may have filmed that scene, but cut it.

Well, in 1959, I doubt we really got to SEE what these 5 girls were forced to go through! An off-screen suggestion, maybe.
Indo-China looks remarkably like Southern California, doesn't it? Somehow I pictured rain forests and the like. How wrong I was.

Was this film banned/deferred on release?-seems very violent for that era-I bet that some busybodies must have raised objections to it.
Great trailer though-totally ott&hyperbolic-will check this out for more!!!
