  • I've used the banana controller to clear up to expert extra levels without a continue, but never reaching master. The banana controller isn't bad in my eyes. I think it's actually better than the PS2 and Xbox controllers for this game, but I'm shocked to see somebody actually pull this off using the banana nonetheless. I had some troubles turning right with it at times, but you make this almost look easy. Have you ever done a perfect run with the banana?

  • Nobody read the title or description, they're spoilers!!!

    ...

    (#-_-)

  • The normal monkey ball 1 in master their's 9 other stages

  • Floor 31, 43 and 44 look easy, and in Super Monkey Ball ??? they should bring back Beginner, Advanced, Expert and Master. But this time Master is like Beginner, Advanced and Expert. Like Master has 50 or 70 levels. And a new difficulty SENIOR MASTER!

  • Nice, especially winning w/JUST one life left!

Wow, the Master difficulty is that short? JUST one level?

And how did you gain availability to a Monkey Ball Arcade? XD

  • @ColaGuy33

Yep, there is just one Master floor on the Arcade game. I'm glad the GCN version had 10 Master floors. I looked around online until I found a Monkey Ball Arcade kit. This includes the banana control panel and the GD-ROM disc. Then all I needed to do was find a Sega NAOMI upright arcade cabinet to install the kit on.

  • If you got some random e-mail from some kid, just ignore it...

  • Fantastic run. I put so much time into SMB1; it was one of my favorite games period, and the only entry in this series that I really liked. The others had too many gimmicks for their own good. And if there had to be a single stage to represent the master stages, M9 is a perfect fit. I can't think of any others that are as simultaneously straightforward and infuriating as that one. It was always the one that ruined my 1cc attempts!

  • @Sixfortyfive

Thanks! Yeah, M9 is a tough but great level. I'm glad that more Master levels were put in when SMB1 was released on the GCN about a year later though. SMB1 is my favorite one also, and it is the one that I have put the most time into.

  • Hey Scott, I don't know if you remember me but this is GC04. Great job beating the arcade game! I was able to get my hands on the arcade machine once, and like you said it was VERY tough with the banana joystick. I don't think I made it past E7 if I remember correctly, so that makes it all the more impressive to see you get though M9. Great stuff! No death run next? ;)

  • @jmbaum

It's great to hear from you Jason! I remember when you posted about playing the arcade game at Myrtle Beach. I tried to find that same machine a few months later without any luck. I've been trying to find one of these machines for a while, and I finally got my hands on one.

As much as a no death run sounds good, I don't have the same zeal for gaming that I once did. I'm not going to put myself through anything tortuous. :) I do plan to improve my scores on Advanced and Expert though.

  • Oh man that was awesome. Last life Master time save FTW!! That Master stage must be unbelievably evil, considering the banana joystick, time constraints, and the gleaming on the level. Great job.

  • @magicboy10xx

Yep, it is VERY difficult although with more practice, I think I could get decent at it. The gleaming definitely makes it tougher too.

  • Great run. Of course the single master level had to be 9. This game has probably taken years off our livespans from stress as exhibited by the audible sigh after finishing tense levels.

It looked like you were going for a play point score by opting for the no warp on E41! Old habit perhaps? :-)

    Was this run livestreamed?

  • Thanks! Yep, playing this game can be stressful! It always feels worse when I'm recording too. I was mostly playing using my old play point strats. I plan to do a run with all of the warps.

I didn't stream this live. Right now, my phone is my only way of recording. It can stream or record but not both to my knowledge. The video quality of the stream is not that great with my setup so I usually just record without streaming.

  • 'CLUTCH' That was a nice save on M9 with the clock running out. If I hadn't known you completed master on this run, I would have thought you had no chance.

  • I thought the same thing too as I played which is why I got pretty excited. I knew it was a hail mary type move, and it worked out in my favor!

  • wait whatthefu, there's only 1 master stage!?

  • Yep, I was kind of surprised myself when M9 from the GC showed up as the lone Master stage. Also, once you Game Over during Extra or Master, that is the end of your game. You can no longer continue and play Extras or Master to practice. I had to reach Master every time that I wanted to practice that floor with just my remaining lives. It kind of sucked.
