If you think of the UK as a boat that's half full, nobody cares about letting it fill up but when a point is reached, the capacity, then the boats starts to sink. People start to point fingers. It's no problem if 10 people emigrated and 10 immigrated, it's only when 10 emigrated and 100 immigrated.
@wannabemedic Well it's a difficult situation really. Whilst in the EU our powers on immigration are extremely limited but it must be noted that we do get some trade benefits from EU membership. It's up to the people in power to speak up for the UK and try to gain us greater ability to control our borders in a sustainable way. Failing that then we must consider whether the benefits of membership outweigh the costs. I'm not in a position to make that judgement.

To be honest I think posterity may end up not being too harsh on Brown. He acted pretty decisively when the recession first hit, which was key. Of course, the trouble is, he can;t really disown the mistakes of the New Labour past ecause he was so much a part of them. It's up to the people in power to speak up for the UK and try to gain us greater ability to control our borders in a sustainable way. Failing that then we must consider whether the benefits of membership outweigh the costs. I'm not in a position to make that judgement.

To be honest I think posterity may end up not being too harsh on Brown. He acted pretty decisively when the recession first hit, which was key. @xzoeeexx Brown did nothing but encourage the "Borrow and debt" culture that has led to house prices, pricing a whole younger generation out of ever owning a property and the borrowed money that fuelled the house price bubble was money wasted on non-producing assets that could have been better spent on infrastructure, industry and manufacturing. He has srewed the economy for gernerations. He did fuck all about regualting the banks and let them lend money to idiots who could never pay it back.

There's a lot of people asking why Marr is asking about his eye. He isn't really. He mentions the eyes to draw him on Westminster rumours coming from No 10 that Brown was on strong anti-depressants and suffered manic depression.
When Marr mentions "pain killers and other pill to get them through" this is what he was talking about. This was all just before we heard the bullying and violent temper accusations.

I know few people liked Gordon Brown, but for all his faults, I admired him nonetheless for his refusal to pander to the media ala Blair/Cameron. We as a nation were not happy with the man who was satisfied to be simply himself, but demanded someone who could mould themselves into such a 'compassionate figure'.
