  • @2:05 The real Hitler would never thank Fegelein.

  • may the nazi be with you

  • I love it when the English play Germans. They do it with such panache...

  • Oh my goodness... now I can imagine Hitler saying defiantly, "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can ever imagine... you do not know the power of the dark side."

  • Isn't Charlie Chaplin wonderful?

  • I can't take this serious after watching Downfall so many times.

  • Fuck that looks like goebbels though!

  • I'm afraid it's only a reproduction my fuhrer........"closes the book"

  • Alec Guiness would be pissed if he saw your title haha but its still really funny XD

  • @Blackdragon52k It is true. He rather be remember for portraying a despotic monster than portraying some silly space wizard.

  • Fegelein gave Hitler a birthday present??? OH NO!!!!

  • @sargon6000 LOLZ! He'd better not use it, it's gotta be a trap... lolz, another star wars reference - ITS A TRAP!!

  • 2 people were upset that Obi-Wan Kenobi has turned to the Dark Side.

  • was he Hitler? SHOCKING PORTRAYAL!

  • It annoys the hell out of me that 9 out of 10 films that portray Hitler are in english, and everybody speaks with a british accent.

  • Alec Guinness was a much better actor than Marlon Brando was

  • This performance rendered by Sir Alec of the Fuehrer is absolutely priceless; though it's probably more accurate of Hitler before 1943...when he had a better command of his mental faculties. After Stalingrad, he suddenly seemed to have grown senile, detached and despondent. His drug use, parkinsons disease and the ravages of syphilis on his brain and personality ultimately left their mark on his persona which reduced him to little more than a mindless, lost and confused drug addict at the end.

  • BEST / FAVORITE Alec Guiness performances

1.) D'Ascoyne family memebers (Kind Hearts and Coronets)

2.) Colonel Nicolson (Bridge on the River Kwai)

    3.) Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)

    4.) Fagin (Oliver Twist)

    5.) General Zhivago (Doctor Zhivago)

    5.) Evidently, this one!

  • @aeopmusic Please don't leave out Father Brown ...or George Smiley for that matter.

  • He is too likeable!

  • He is better at playing indian hindu priests

  • Would someone tell me the name of the Waltz music playing in the background?

  • Guiness, in this scene and other scenes, seems almost like he's portraying Hitler in a 'Santa Claus' like way with benign cruelty underneath - listen when he talks about those lebensraum plans for the russians.

    Good performance, noetheless

  • man i wish hitler was like that lol

  • I'm bothered by Hitler acting like a jolly British fellow. I do like that part with Fegelein giving him a gift. :D That clip could perfectly be used in a Hitler Rants Parody!

  • BRUNO GANZ the best hitler ever !

  • Alec Guinness is the all around greatest actor ever. This is the best portrayal of Hitler ever, and probably the best portrayal of a narcissistic-antisocial, delusional personality ever. The only reason Sir Alec's talent isn't given full credit is that he was also a comic genius ...and being able to do great comedy as well as great drama seems to be regarded as a strike against an actor!

  • @boriato

LOL...the dark side of the force has clearly clouded your vision.

  • i remember this film, when i was a kid it scared the hell out of me,the desperation of the suicide realy touched me,it was very well done,of course when i was a child i dident know much about the crimes of hitler,so i had some empathy for him

  • he should of used the force,to drive the red horde back in to asia ,lol

  • After Downfall, it really looks ridiculous to have Hitler speak in the English language

  • Hitler was actuly a quite nice and friendly person so stop judging him just because he killed some jews that are killing millions every day!!!

  • At 2:02, Fegelein is there to gave Hitler a gift.

  • Oh, yah. We forgot. Germans and Hitler are Demons-From-Hell and all they do is spit and hiss. Right. fergot.

  • Preposterous. That's not Hitler, it is Guinness acting as if the film was an Ealing comedy.

  • I love you Alec, but you're just far too warm and cuddly for this role xD

  • Of all the actors who portrayed Hitler, Guinness was one of the best.

  • @LastCommodore and bruno ganz was the best

  • RIP Alec Guinnes :( , excellent actor

  • Beware Churchill, strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!

  • You realize Alec Guinness is one of the greatest actors in the world when he manages to make Hitler look like a really nice, cute and suave gentleman you want to hug!

  • i keep picturing obi wan as a bad nazi couldnt he have at least changed his accent.

  • The Guy that played Fegelein was also in Star Wars (The Empire Strikes back) as General Veers. He would later play the villian Donovan in Indiana Jones and the last Crusades.

  • @cripplehawk also, the guy who played Admiral Kendel Ozzel in Empire Strikes Back actually played Hitler in Last Crusades.

  • @Emigdiosback he was the head master in the bbc show grange hill,he was allso in auf vidasain pet

  • The Real Hitler was heavily sedated during his last days. He did threw a fit when he found out that Steiner 9th Army could not launch the attack to save Berlin That scene is well potrayed (and parodied) in the film DownFal.l

  • @cripplehawk

Steiner commanded the 11th SS Panzer Army, otherwise all OK

  • @silvanski my bad

  • the one hitler anyone can like

  • Really sympathetic and humoristic! What a decent austrian chap hey!

  • Sir Alec Guiness is not famous for Star Wars. He made movies since the 50's, you never heard of "Bridge over the river Kwai" or "Tunes of Glory" or about a hundred comedy's, he was Peter Sellers hero, try "The Man in The White Suit", "The Ladykillers", etc.etc.etc. Look on wikipedia before you make a fool of yourself.

  • surprisingly amiable portrayal of Hiltler but maybe that`s more accurate?

  • Hitler to fat guy in chauffer`s uniform... 'You drug addict!! You sold my airforce!"

  • Hitler seemed so nice LOL, yup just a bunch of happy nazis!

  • John Gielgud was totaly way better than Alec Guinness was

  • @92af They are both great, and good freinds, what a stupid comment. "totally way better" your grasp of proper English leaves much to be desired. I'm surprised you have even heard if Sir John Guilgud. Probably only seen him as an older man in "Arthur".

  • This is like Hitler pretending to be Churchill

  • @mccarrpo Fail.

  • @xxeternalbeautyxx Not Guiness' best, the best Hitler was Robert Carlyle.

  • @locheelad2

Are you off your fucking head? Robert Carlyle did a two dimensional performance: he simply played Hitler as a psychotic madman, almost autistic - do you honestly think such a "lunatic" could have woo over so many people to his cause? This performance is much better.

  • @xxeternalbeautyxx He WAS a psychotic madman. That's not the point. Sir Alec himself said it was one of his poorest roles. Carlyle played a young Hitler, which nobody knows anything about. Alec played him as the madman with Parkinson's disease, lots of eyewitnesses who STUCK WITH HIM BECAUSE THEY WERE BRAINWASHED NAZI'S, not normal people. Churchill had it right " A German is either at your throat, or licking your boots".

  • @locheelad2 I disagree that Sir Al said it was one of 'his poorest roles'. In Piers Paul Read's biography, he quotes Alec as saying it was one of his top three performances, you don't even have to read the book, it is actually written alongside the picture of Alec as Hitler!

  • hitler with a british accent, sounds hilarious

  • Its like Downfall with with a heavy Anglo influence of sorts

  • Watch a movie called "Downfall" - very similar but also more accurate

  • I love him! (Alec Guinnes of course, not Hitler)

  • They ruined this movie with the fake Eva Braun dialogue near the end in which she turned against Hitler, that was stupid and unnecessary, that's where the story strayed too far away from the facts.

  • Of all the Hitlers, Alec Guinness definitely comes closest in terms of appearance.

  • I may have to agree with you. Although, not necessarily the best overall performance. (See 'Der Untergang' for that!)

  • Ironic that Obi-Wan is his best known role, yet he disliked it them most.

  • haha he is way to nice to play hitler:D

  • @SilasUltron actually, Hitler was marked by his formalities and love for tea

  • Yes this film was released in 1973

  • Is....this...real ?

  • What do you mean?
