Hey! I'm from Spain and finally they aren't going to release this amazing version so I'm considering buying it on amazon even if I can only see it on my computer due to the NTSC/PAL formats. However, I'd like to ask you if you can tell me if there are Spanish subtitles or at least English subtitles. Thank you very much in advance!
@xxxxvendettaxxxx there are english and spanish subtitles. I hope you enjoy it. There are blu-ray and dvd players you can buy all over the world that will play any kind of dvd or bluray from anyware in the world.
You should look for one. They're usually around 100 dollars more for the blu-ray players but they're worth it if you're in a country like Spain.
Sadly as of end of last month, Warner discontinued the Ultimate Cut specifically the Blu-Ray edition. People tell me that this is a limited edition release.
@trekkiefan10 it's all good man. Yeah I love this cut, but I'm happy I have all of them. I think the theatrical cut is just fine most of the time. It's not every day I want to sit down for 4 hours of a movie... know what I mean?
@daftbottv Yeah dude, I totally know what you mean. I bought the directors version in the UK as it was cheaper but it turned out to be Theatrical Cut with special features only, so I then had to get the US version of the Directors Cut. I like them both but I must get this Ultimate Edition!
My set came with a digital copy of the motion comics, but there wasn't a code for it. I tried using the one provided for the movie, but it didn't work.
The ending is the same. I personally didn't care for the giant squid ending at all... I thought it felt very out of place and way too random. The ending in the film turns the film into a personal tragedy for one of the characters, really raising the stakes.
However I found the film as a whole didnt carry the same depth and meaning that the book did.
Not because it cut too much out (Or at least that didnt seem like the reason to me at the time) But because it tried to keep too much in.
When I saw the movie in theatres the movie tried to tell the story with too many of the details intact, thus making it too complicated and distracting from the actual themes and meanings.
A movie can't be a book because they're totally different story telling types... but a movie can be a comic book and a comic book can be a movie... they're both visual story telling methods and look at how you plan out shooting a movie, with story boards.
300 is 300, Sin City is Sin City... I think Watchmen, especially this cut is as close to Watchmen as you could get and I really appreciate all the attention to detail and little story elements. I think it all works.
Watchmen dealt with a lot more complex themes and philosophies then 300 or Sin City which were (lets admit it) mainly just pretty movies.
I still think that Watchmen could have been better if they had been willing to boil down some of the plot details a bit more so that they could more clearly emphasize the themes.
As it was they were just bombarding the audience with too much information too fast.
the ultimate cut, to me. seems like its more of a collectors thing to be sold one day. now the theatrical version should have been made a 3 disc special edition, like they did with the return of superman. you know, disc 1 the theatrical version. disc 2 with the newer version with newer scenes added in, and disc 3 with the curse of the black freighters.
yeah, it sucked monkey balls. but i said, that the new watchmen package should have been packed like that. and what i meant with the extended version was that it should be tied in with the curse of the black freighters as well, as having the curse of the black frieghter on its own disc, kinda like a digital copy like with family guys blue harvest. im just dreaming lol.
How much do you think that would cost though. I mean look at how much the bladerunner box set costs that has all the different cuts in it. It was released at over 100 bucks. The stuff it does have is amazing. 50 bucks for all this is a great deal.
im not saying its not a great deal. im just saying that from my point of view, that would be worth the money, maybe not 100 but certainly 75. because a digital copy to get it on your ipod would be killer. so again, im not saying this new set of watch men isnt a good choice to get, im just saying they could have either added things to it by putting it in the set or just taken some stuff out to make it the same price. and thats like my idea, not what the company should do.
but it comes with a digital copy of the theatrical version.... I mean it's 50 bucks, comes with the 20 dollar motion comics, 2 versions of the film, and all the bonus features... it's perfect as is.
The Directors Cut will absolutely be the definitive version of the film. The DC truly is Snyder's version. He himself said that the Ultimate Cut isn't a legitimate "cut." Rather it's "an experiment."
Also, the UC is getting a very limited release. Only the most hardcore are going to see it.
Besides, the DC is significantly better. The TBF segments are awesome in the graphic novel, but they just didn't work in the movie.
I listened to the commentary. What did I miss? In interviews, he has repeatedly called the Director's Cut "the movie" and the Ultimate Cut "an experiment."
He didn't say anything about that in the commentary. Or did I miss something? I've only heard him repeatedly refer to the Director's Cut as "THE movie." And the Ultimate Cut as merely "an experiment."
It was a set of exclusive MW2 gamer pics... some one already got them. But thanks for adding me. I'll be playing tonight until 4am I'm sure. That's how all my days have been
honestly man, writing up new reviews everyday, trying to get articles featured on a lot of sites, and trying to create at least 5 new videos for you guys every week can be draining at times.
awe man why did you say that, now i really want to get that tattooed on me=[ =]

How long does the ultimate cut last, as the Directors Cut was like 3 hours.
trekkiefan10 1 year ago

@watsupmnerds that sounds like a mistake to me. They're not supposed to come with that. Was it an exclusive from a store you bought it from?
daftbottv 1 year ago
@daftbottv possibly, but i bought it months after it came out. not a big deal, but it would have been cool to have.

Awesome review, and yes the motion comic is addicting and a masterpiece.

So not to spoil anything, but does it have the book ending in movie form or the theatrical ending as it was in the Ultimate Cut.?

I agree I preferred the film ending.

A movie cant be a book.
ToasterPig 2 years ago
That being said I will likely still seek out the ultimate cut and give it a chance.
ToasterPig 2 years ago
@ToasterPig
The Ultimate cut is a lot better. Unlike the theatrical (which i did like) it takes it's time to include the details and adds more from the book.
It works so much better as an adaptation and as a film compared to the theatrical.
I did enjoy the theatrical cut but the ultimate cut is the definitive Watchmen movie.

I think that depends on the comic in question.
Watchmen dealt with a lot more complex themes and philosophies then 300 or Sin City which were (lets admit it) mainly just pretty movies.

But I will still seek out the ultimate cut. :)
ToasterPig 2 years ago
with this cut, that information comes during a brisk 3 and a half hours (sarcasm implied).
I think there's just enough time to process everything, especially with the black freighter bookending all the themes in this version.
daftbottv 2 years ago
I am definitely curious about it now.
Damn you daftbot.
I want it now and i dont even own a bluray player D:
ToasterPig 2 years ago
I'm definitely going to pick this up, or demand it for Christmas, but that sucks that there is no Blu-ray release.

That's kind of ridiculous. 3 discs for 3 versions? I'd never buy that. I prefer 3 discs full of unique content. Oh and Superman Returns stinks.
