Outstanding performance Vic, if you ever have the time to describe to me how you obtain your guitar tone. what strings do you use? amp? any pedals? amp settings? thanks, Clay
@whiteej21 Very wisely spoken,Jazz brings us back to the essence of things, like every pure Art-form it demands the utmost from musicians, one or two books are OK but playing, adapting theory and searching for the own inner-voice a million times better, I still play a few hours every day, just because I love it,Vic.
Hi Vic, yes I especially love this piece from when you start playing the chords as the melody really rings out. I also play this piece but I play the melody lines with the single guitar notes as well and then improvise much in the E Aeolian mode as it is in the key of G.
@jmsbk12345 Thanks you're right about the tonal center but it's very interesting to play "Altered notes" over the D7 and B7 chords. Keep on playing,Vic.
Thanks Malmsteen, well I always play my own thing and don't copy much from other folks, the only guys I copied to learn where, Wes, Kenny Burrel, Joe Pass, anyway those type of players, greets Vic.
wow! all i have to say is, wonderfully played! i'm a guitarist as well and ive been playing for 8 years now no tutoring whatsoever. i watch videos to learn something and i've learned something here. thanks!
Thanks brickster27,that's my intention to pass on my playing experience, your reaction is one of much more appreciation than the one before you, only complaining bout the backing track, definitely guys who take all for granted on YT,cheers Vic.
@osnopi Been doing live stages and smokey joints my whole life brother and it got me no where, let the younger generation give it a try,I'm playing for my own pleasure now and for your info: I always improvise,Vic.
It's great to hear that there are people like yourself out there who don't take everything for granted and show their kindness ,it's heartwarming for me,Vic.

Victor, amazing guitar work, love your style and approach to the song. as a beginner getting into jazz would you mind telling me the scales/ modes that your using to solo over the Em autumn leaves?
Thanks Blues, this is a head arrangement of myself,I love harmonizing themes,it's not on Tabs, but I'm getting many requests from guitarists for my Jazzwork, for my finger style work I sometimes sell some arrangements, making scores is quite some work,Vic.
A hight level improvisation Vic.You have a peculiar way to say things in a very clear lines, great n beautiful...wounderfull maestro.I thin u have ur own voice n it mark the difference thans for this
Thanks Pepe, great coming from a maestro on the sax, with great ears and musical taste, glad you enjoyed and I'm very glad with your positive visits, thank you,Vic.
"Classy." I've seen a lot of covers that just try and play as fast and flashly as possible...I think a lot of guitarists could stand to learn a lot from watching you play.
Thanks TheSki... great comment, I learned a lot by listening to Miles Davis,an excellent example of space between the notes, also Monk and Count Basie, they never crammed the Music full of notes, I think that's very un-musical. Cheers Vic.
Hi Happy guitar1, I'm not using an amp here I'm running my signal straight into a 4 channel mini-mixer, from there the signal goes to the audio-port of my PC,greets Vic.
Thanks happy.. mostly I record like that, the advantage are the EQ possibilities of the mixer to fine- tune the desired frequencies, they go further then a regular amp, greets Vic.
Thanks Happyguitar1, I had trouble playing in ensemble getting feedback,so my guitar customizer glued a piece of hard plastic from the inside of the F-hole to prevent that,it helps very well, greets Vic.
Hi justpracticing,I remember I the licks I borrowed from Wes, Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, and so it goes from generation to generation, keep practicing and glad I've been of help, greets Vic.
Thanks Frank, for checking this "must" on the repertoire of every Jazz-guitarist and other guitarists as well, glad you liked it, will visit you soon,Vic.
i was thinking to buy a guitar..guitars that come to my mind is jackson, les paul & esp..listening to this makes me thinking on buying a fender strat..
beautiful! I love playing this one myself, probably one of my favorite standards. Very well done, and a beautiful tone out of that guitar you got there. Is that a gibson?
Thanks Gabriel, I had 4 patterns and I wanted to improvise at least 3,that'swhy I came up with this solution, thanks for listening and long live Jazz indeed, greets Vic.
Super Vic, this time you began the other way around started out with some great improvisation and brought us back to the intro. That Lady (guitar) of yours has a sweet and warm sound must feel good in your hands as well, you got your fingers rolling everywhere LOL, thumbs-up 5*, greets your brother John (Willemstad)
Yeah, thanks John, man when she's leaning against my body and those notes flow through her hollow body it's like Heaven,no,even stronger I think Heaven's right here if we know how to create it,what about that philosophy?greets Vic.
Hi Vic, I'm sketching a couple of layouts to your website pages which I hope to design and make ready to upload soon, keep you posted, greets John (Willemstad)It's a wonder holding her tight in your arms, slapping her in the face pointing her with your finger and still she doesn't mind to sing you all those beautiful tunes, Ha, Ha, it only can be a guitar.
Thanks Franco, I made a little Joke over here, I didn't play the theme as a Head in the beginning just started improvising right away,I played it at the end though(lol)greets Vic.
I also get that message, and have written to youtube, but I think it is also possible it is a disorder in our contactpersons system, but I don't know yet, if it is really so. I am wondering if Youtube can do something about it.
Hi Roeleke, well what we can do is just ignore that message, when the reactions start dropping in you know the message came across,a simple and effective method, lol greets Vic.
Good thing the Tube, abhikmazumder, you wont find this on the TV,maybe once a while on the radio but in the very late hours when everybody is a sleep,LOL greets Vic.
it's such a treat to have a guitarist of your ability replying to almost every comment posted. your videos are great. im currently studying my advanced diploma in music performance and am very much inspired by your improvisations. thankyou.
davern hello, I'm glad I've inspired you to learn your Tools and be a creative improviser, you know that's a another category than learning a few favorite Pop-tunes as we see so much here on the Tube, with all respect, greets Vic.
What do you do for a career. Does it involve music? Im just curious because i will be going to college for music and i don't see how it will .. i guess pay the bills. Don't mind my questions just lookin for good advice from real musicians. Thanks
Hi mrshappy, I'm a professional Musician, first of all you have to become a very proficient trade-man (woman) and besides that be a good business man also,be able to organize very good and be able to provide what's demanded then you might earn a reasonable living, greets Vic.
Hi there, I am a blues guitarist, no formal training, and I improvise well along those lines but the older I get, the more I like jazz. Can you give me any pointers as to where to start as far as building a repertoire for jazz?
Hi Arno, take simple Jazz tunes like Blue Bossa, check out the basic 2-5-1 progression series on the Site of Jamie Aebersold, that's basic knowledge you need for playing Jazz,I've got two lessons here on diminished that you can benefit from, see playing list on my profile. Most of all start simple and build from there, information is everywhere now a days, greetings Victor.
Hie Vic.Thank's for your answer. What a wonderful sound!!! Is it possible to get it with a GB 200??? Your 335 Epiphone is well, to. I'm looking for à good Jazz guitare, and I think we can get "the sound" with Epiphone, or Ibanez. And you show it very well.
But, in France, it's hard to find good Epiphone ( Birdland or 335 with Gibson pick up ). I think of GB 200, or the 105 ??
Hi Fred,It's GB 20, it's an old model from begin 80 ties, bought it before I started my study, instantly fell in love with her,and I still am,she has served me very well, all the best Vic.
Hi Grippo,I hope you don't have anything against the Dutch, besides a Jazz musician has the freedom to chose whatever key can be played in,ever heard of transposing? Let me hear some playing, don't see anything on your channel, greets Vic.
hello again, I can see also that you know what you are playing... I do not have this knowledge... you have a great feeling as well and again with no pose behind that... my feeling is not jazzy, I can't follow up all those chord changes...I believe in simplicity... I can only play what my mind is singing, and my mind is very simple one... thank you and all my respect for you...
Hi Martino, you're a modest man, the way you harmonize and arrange tunes shows a good understanding of melody and harmony,I understand you're not very much into improvisation but you're a very talented and good musician, greets Vic.
thank you Victor, well, I am playing for about 20 years so I should already know something about that...I play in the restaurants and about half of the program I play with backing tracks I recorded. So I have a chance to improvise over harmonies but as I said before, I fully rely on my ear...if you check my arrange of Stings Fragile, that's an example of how I do my solo leading.
Tell me how you know I'm Dutch,do I look like a Windmill? And who the hell is marc B? How is he related to me? there are so many unsolved questions in this world,Victor.
No, you don't look like a windmill, but you could live in it, he, he... I'm half dutch, living in France, J-M Bouyeure is my brother (guitarplayer like me, by the ways), teaching jazz on the "Stedelijk Conservatorium", called Artez nowadays(?) not sure. Hope there are less unanswered questions for you today! What brand is this beautiful guitar you're playing (beautifully)
Thanks for the answers,Now I get the picture, haven't seen the Inside of a conservatory since end of the eighties,I'm on my own in this jungle called Music. And my beauty is An Ibanez George Benson GB-20,I'll take her along in my Coffin(I think)Greets Vic.
Hi Johnny, isn't it better to record your own version cause I didn,t leave any space at all here for you to improvise, don't you think that's better you'll have much more freedom to play, greetings Victor.
Thanks Tele, loved your Satin Doll(very musical) now and then I do some live playing, and I'll certainly inform you when I'm playing with quartet again, stay tuned for "Wave"(Jobim) comming up.we'll keep in touch, greets Victor.

davern hello, I'm glad I've inspired you to learn your Tools and be a creative improviser, you know that's a another category than learning a few favorite Pop-tunes as we see so much here on the Tube, with all respect, greets Vic.

What do you do for a career. Does it involve music? Im just curious because i will be going to college for music and i don't see how it will .. i guess pay the bills. Don't mind my questions just lookin for good advice from real musicians. Thanks
mrshappy0 3 years ago
Hi mrshappy, I'm a professional Musician, first of all you have to become a very proficient trade-man (woman) and besides that be a good business man also,be able to organize very good and be able to provide what's demanded then you might earn a reasonable living, greets Vic.

Hi there, I am a blues guitarist, no formal training, and I improvise well along those lines but the older I get, the more I like jazz. Can you give me any pointers as to where to start as far as building a repertoire for jazz?
arnomanfish 3 years ago

But the best way is to try it.
All the best.Fred

Yes Fred, just use your ears and they will tell when it's right, thrust them because they tell you no lies,LOL.Greets Vic.
Jazzguts 3 years ago
What a great sound!!!! Is it a GB 200 ???
It seem to be a special Ibanez modele.
Thank's for your answer. Fred ( Nice .France )
fredellaz 3 years ago
Hi Fred,It's GB 20, it's an old model from begin 80 ties, bought it before I started my study, instantly fell in love with her,and I still am,she has served me very well, all the best Vic.

Wrong key dude. Only the Dutch play it in e minor.
Grippowitz 4 years ago
Hi Grippo,I hope you don't have anything against the Dutch, besides a Jazz musician has the freedom to chose whatever key can be played in,ever heard of transposing? Let me hear some playing, don't see anything on your channel, greets Vic.
Jazzguts 4 years ago
I find the true key more endearing, personally, but you did a good solo on this nonetheless.
emixolydian 3 years ago
Very nice, but it sounds like your Dutch.
Grippowitz 4 years ago
Hi Grippo,ha ha ,next recording I'll do in the States then I'll sound American, good sence of humor man,Vic.
Jazzguts 4 years ago
hello again, I can see also that you know what you are playing... I do not have this knowledge... you have a great feeling as well and again with no pose behind that... my feeling is not jazzy, I can't follow up all those chord changes...I believe in simplicity... I can only play what my mind is singing, and my mind is very simple one... thank you and all my respect for you...
soymartino 4 years ago
Hi Martino, you're a modest man, the way you harmonize and arrange tunes shows a good understanding of melody and harmony,I understand you're not very much into improvisation but you're a very talented and good musician, greets Vic.
Jazzguts 4 years ago
thank you Victor, well, I am playing for about 20 years so I should already know something about that...I play in the restaurants and about half of the program I play with backing tracks I recorded. So I have a chance to improvise over harmonies but as I said before, I fully rely on my ear...if you check my arrange of Stings Fragile, that's an example of how I do my solo leading.
soymartino 4 years ago
just great!!!

Thank you, check out my other Jazz work and leave a comment now and then, greets Vic.

Hi Victor, Smooth playing! I just knew you are Dutch without having read your profile. Do you know Jean-Marc Bouyeure?
YOUYOU47 4 years ago
Tell me how you know I'm Dutch,do I look like a Windmill? And who the hell is marc B? How is he related to me? there are so many unsolved questions in this world,Victor.
Jazzguts 4 years ago
No, you don't look like a windmill, but you could live in it, he, he... I'm half dutch, living in France, J-M Bouyeure is my brother (guitarplayer like me, by the ways), teaching jazz on the "Stedelijk Conservatorium", called Artez nowadays(?) not sure. Hope there are less unanswered questions for you today! What brand is this beautiful guitar you're playing (beautifully)
YOUYOU47 4 years ago
Thanks for the answers,Now I get the picture, haven't seen the Inside of a conservatory since end of the eighties,I'm on my own in this jungle called Music. And my beauty is An Ibanez George Benson GB-20,I'll take her along in my Coffin(I think)Greets Vic.

Hi Johnny, isn't it better to record your own version cause I didn,t leave any space at all here for you to improvise, don't you think that's better you'll have much more freedom to play, greetings Victor.

Hello there!
One months ago, I almost forget my quesiton to You! Sure, you quite wright there so I stick to my backing tracks!
When I lessen to good music I tend to be overentusiastic sometimes.

Very fluent! You make it seem very easy to make a good melodic statement on this oldie (I know it's not).
I gave it a ***** rating.
BTW: do you gig in The Netherlands? I would love to hear to you play live with a nice combo.
