How come GM can only produce a gasoline generator that gets 35 mpg while the Toyota Prius gets 50 mpg running on its generator. And its just a Hybrid!! The Chevy Volt is a Plug-IN!! The Prius can go 600 miles emitting a few CO2, while the Volt emits less CO2 but can offer 40 miles of Zero emission pure all electric driving. $40 for six hundred miles or 40 miles for $1.25 , Zero emissions? GO PRIUS AND VOLT!!!

@marker220 40 miles is the daily average national commute. The generator can power the volt for an additional 300 miles. It would take the leaf 10 days to go from NY to Florida if you could find a place to plug in for the 10 hour charge time. The volt could be driven like a normal car for long trips without fear or delay of not having an outlet!

@40markava But a Prius would use less fossil fuel to to make the NY to florida trip. Nissan Leaf can be quick charged in 30 min from 0% to 80%. We just need to get the infrastructure in place (just like 100 years ago with gasoline).

My trip was from Metropolitan Musium of Art in NYC to the Adrienne Arsht Center of Performing Arts in Miami. Distance 1287 miles. Drive time 22 hours. Volt gets the first 40 miles gas free but then gets 37mpg. Prius gets 50 mpg. The volt will use 33.7 gallons of gas for the non-stop trip the Prius uses 25.74 gallons for the same trip. The Prius can cary one more person and costs less.

The Chevy Volt will get more mileage on Electricity as Battery Technology improves. All I need is 30 more miles on Pure Electric Mode and it will fulfill my personal driving needs. I commute 60 miles a day. The Volt currently offer 40 miles.

you still have to put gas in it? so its just another hybrid, POS! I use to have a VW Jetta TDI that gave me 50ish mpg's and i got more boost out of it through tubing and a intake kit/ exhaust. it hauldazz! i ran a 14.2 at 106mph 1/4mile at the track. add TIEN suspention and a set of BBS LM wheels....whooo i love that car.... but im a supercharged e39 ///M5 guy now...FUK TREES!

I want one - my Lincolk MKX lease is up in October. Please release this before then GM!!!!! My commute to work is 20 miles; would love to have the Volt, as I refuse to buy Japanese, but want this or a Fusion hybrid. Fusion still burns gas, where I could go charged weeks before burning a drop with the Chevy for the occasional client trip.

Just to build a Volt requires over 50 barrels of oil energy and creates more toxic waste plus uses up thousands of gallons of freshwater.

The "environmentally sound" thing to do would be to properly maintain an existing midsize car (not an urban assault SUV/truck) to extend its service life for several years.

The govt., Govt. Motors (GM), and the green movement would have you think otherwise.

The US govt. auctions our debt to nations like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait as well as Japan, China, etc....just to pay bills and make employee payroll.

The entire thing is not sustainable. Hybrid vehicles are just a bandaid on a body covered 95% with 3rd degree burns.
