This is the best performance of "Siniy Platochek" i have ever heard. Can someone tell me who is singing? Even better, can someone tell me where I can find the song itself?
@drkshad0 Check this out in yuotube: Blue shawl/Siniy Platochek Vikipedia has the full text (well, different versions of the song) of the most popular version:
about a group of russians abushed by chechens during the first war, 2 of them get taken prisoner by an old chechen man who wants to swap them for his son, in a russian priz camp. the officer is much more interested in escaping, and the younger conscript tries to make friends with his captives. it is based on a story by tolstoy on the caucasian war (in the 1800s) good movie
Yes, it is. But it's visa versa, this song "Siniy platochek" was very popular before the war, so people just made different lyrics about start of the war.
I love, love, love this film! When I first watched it (in 1998 or 1999, I believe) I had to stare motionless, but thoughtful at the empty TV screen when the film was over...
Just the best film about vengeance and reconciliation.

@orhanakay78 Oleg Menchikov, from the movie...I think you just have to get the movie.."Prisoner of the Mountains." Superb film.

I don't understand his first two verses at all (the ones he sings before the whistling)!
His 3rd and last verses are the first two verses of the original song - but what is he singing in the first two verses?
PS: Been a fan of Menshikov's acting since I saw Mikhailov's "Burnt By The Sun".
I wish there were more Russian films with English subs to watch (trying to learn Russian, just not there yet!)
