I'm from Australia & there's no issues with tornadoes or cyclones where we happen to live. We are none the less pretty much surrounded by dense bush, so fires are a concern for us. I was thinking about 'worse case scenarios' of the property engulfed by fire and no chance to escape, and how a bunker (with fire extinguishers, oxygen, rations & water) with plus several escape tunnels, would be an idea worth considering. So I'm enjoying seeing what your thoughts are here on design etc.
@BelloBudo007 The storm jumpers carry mylar? covers that will shield them from a flash over so I don't see why you couldn't do the same thing and be safe. If you had the doorways seal tight you'd likely keep enough breathing air enclosed to outlast a brush fire no problem. If you're in dense woods you might possibly run out so yeah, bottled air would be good to have. Make you're vents so you can temporarily seal them and keep the good air in, and a few feet of soil would protect youfrom heat.
This is Awsome Im 24 And Have Always Wanted An UnderGround Bomb Shelter Or Hurricane Retreat. Hopefully one day I will get to Build my own home and have the funds to do something like it. But Here down under no one has basements or under ground bunkers here in Australia or New Zealand :(

Stalag 13 was Hoagan's heroes but there is an older movie called Stalag 17.
They disposed of the dirt from the tunnel by puting it in socks and dumping it in the prison yard.

Wow you did exactly what I want to do. If I lived down in near the cost I would go drink beer or shooting some guns with you are something. Nice job!

Hah!
Build a bunker and everyone assumes I have a cache of guns!
I was once a pretty good shot and love to target practice but I don't actually own any firearms.
I've wanted to do this since I was ten and I'm getting old so it's now or never LOL.
I convinced my wife to let me do it since we do live 30 miles from the gulf and have gone through a few hurricanes and tornadoes.

Well bummer, you have a bunker but no firearms? Thats sounds like a oxymoron to me. ;)

It's for Tornadoes.
I don't have a Secret Militia but I am getting an awful lot of traffic from Homeland Security LOL.
I laugh but that's actualy kinda scary, maybe I shouldn't have called it top secret?

Really? How do you know Homeland Security is messing with you? Thats a shame
