  • "Getting Started with the Pentatonic Scale DVD" If you what to learn the Pentatonic Scale then this DVD is the best there is, Desi Serna is a very competent and brilliant Teacher, who brings his lessons over in a simple and clear form making it easy to follow and understand, the content and presentation are brilliant .Video presentation and recording and viewing quality are excellent along with the material content

  • Just finished watching "Getting Started With the Pentatonic Scale". Thanks Desi for demystifying guitar riffs. I am looking forward to improving my playing and with this lesson and the rest of your lessons I have no doubt that I will.

    Thanks

    Glenn

  • Dig It.

  • Hey Desi. I bought fretboard theory from you a few years back and learnt some scales but didnt really know how to apply them! since then i've largely forgotten them and didnt make it all the way through the book...its not my best way to learn - what is your dvd like as a learning tool and does it cover applcation of theory, how much is it, what is included, etc.? thanks, Neville.

  • @NevvyC I would recommend Getting Started with the Pentatonic Scale DVD.

  • I own Desi Serna's Fretboard Logic and DVDs. In an age of gimmicky products, promising you the world, and leaving you with nothing, his products really shine. He simplifies things as much as possible, and avoids putting you to sleep with unecessarily long winded explanations. Desi covers the essentials in the most efficient way possible. I own dozens of guitar books, and have yet to come across anything better than Mr. Serna's products. This is a completely unsolicited comment, by the way.

  • @jnkhd Thanks. But I think you meant Fretboard Theory!

  • @GuitarMusicTheoryTab

So when are you going to make a video about theory? I was hoping to find a theory video to go with your book. I am now buying the "Learn and Master Guitar Videos" but I will keep an eye out for a Theory Video from you.....(SOON?)

  • @jnkhd My apologies...yes, I meant Fretboard Theory. Don't ask me how I messed that up.

  • buy this dvd.nothing else could get through to me what i was supposed to be doing.45 minutes in and it was unlocked for me.thanks

  • @jpgr1234 supposed to be doing for what?! i own the fretboard theory book but dont really like learning this wayy....what's the dvd like for a learning tool? as i really should get my scales & theory nailed!

  • this dude has some seriously versatile chops...yeah!!!

  • my girl

  • which one?

  • you look like a guy from high school musical

  • in that first example i thought you about to play pink floyd wish you were here

  • haha me too. when he played it, the song sounded familiar, but i couldn't put my finger on it at the time

  • si buenos licks es facil componer canciones interesantes cuando sabes como usar esacalas arpegios y sabes progresiones de acordes que esten relacionados con esas escalas.

  • Very Cool! Thanks!

  • interesante.. buenos licks

  • A lil bit of everything.

Good stuff man.. Good stuff! =)

  • Hello.I wonder if you`re playing the minor pentatonic scale in the key of G. Do you then start on the third fret and ends on the fifteen freet.??

  • The chord progression is G and Em. I'm playing the G major/E minor pentatonic scale (they are the same) with pattern one (as I teach it) starting in the open position.

  • so thats why A minor is the same that C major

    and one more thing

whats the difference between melodic and harmonic scales

and what are the modes(are somethin like scales too) please answer me it will help everybody seing this...

  • The major scale has seven notes and any one of them can function as the root. Each one of these "modes" has a unique sound. I teach all about the modal concept in my book Fretboard Theory and also my DVD entitled Guitar Modes - The Modal Scales of Popular Music.

  • Once you understand everything you can do with major scale patterns (and pentatonic too), then you can move onto more complicated ideas like the harmonic and melodic minor scales. Music theory is a process and each concept builds on the previous. Don't get ahead of yourself.

  • you`re to handsome

  • Great Stuff Desi!!!...Hope you expand your line of great instructional DVD's

  • wow, Desi. You are actually one of the few instructors on youtube that isn't a complete tool, and can effectively teach. For that i commend you.

  • Great job Desi. I have your book and all of your posted videos help provide a "modeled" understanding of what you are teaching in the book. Thanks for the instructional videos!!

  • hey, is that a PRS, the red guitar you have? How bout the acoustic one? what guitar is it? Both look great!

  • PRS CE24 and a Line 6 Variax acoustic.

  • you guys are very helpful! thanks so much! 5 stars!!

  • haha everything there sounded like other songs. The first one sounded like wish you were here by pink floyd, rock one sounded like back in black acdc, and then the motown thing sounded like my girl by the temptations.

  • That was the idea. Good ear!

  • ...and the country one like The Rolling Stones song Honky-Tonk Women with a little Alan Jackson mixed in.

  • @puyopop me thinks they were slightly changed for copyright purposes.

  • Great job Thanks, I use to play guitar when I was young since 1968 to 1970. Today I have 54 years old and I decided to start again.

  • the rock one sounds well like back in black

  • ooh line 6 i have a variax 500 and love it

  • Most Excellent!

What is the name of the song at the very start of the video?

  • I made up all those examples. -Desi

  • No you didn't.

  • Great video! Really demonstrates the versatility of the pentatonic scale.

  • thanks helping me. topp rank help

  • coooool!!!!
