  • I would like to discover some of his other songs.

  • fuck you purina one. who the fuck names their cat steven?

  • Back in the late 90s I was banned from Napster for downloading this song. Fat lot of good that did the recording industry. Artists should--and are--paid well, but I really don't give a shit about their descendants four generations later getting royalties. In fact, I think it's good that they don't. Message to people like that: go get a job.

  • Would like to add an japanese band made a fantastic ode to Roy,sung by Yoshimi K called the Romantist

  • Wil nog even zeggen dat een japanse band een prachtige ode aan Roy heeft gemaakt, gezongen door Yoshimi -k echt fantastisch.

  • amo la musica de este genio!

  • I hope this is a more well-serving comment on a wonderful song and artist than my first one was. I almost never care for music previous to the 80's and some genre not at all. But this is a truly great song!! <3

Also thank you very much gerrienails for the excellent HD quality of this upload :-)

  • It is some artiste who appears on stage with that backing group!!! And Roy Orbison wasTHAT artiste!! Sadly missed but never forgotten.

  • HET GAT IN MIJN CULTUUR IS NU GEVULD! JOEPIEEEE !!! :D

  • He just gets better with age~

  • In 1960 I was not born but I wish I was, damn I'm only 17 but I surley missed a great musician

  • He wasn't blind he had to wear corrective lenses left um on a plane all he had was the dark corrective lenses he need them to see and wore them for an complete tour. Became a trademark look um the biography dip shit

  • @PAEtruckdriver That and the lasers.

  • @PAEtruckdriver And let's be honest, Jack Nicholson wears dark shades too. It's a trademark thing!

  • Roy Orbison rules!

  • I'm not quite 28 and had no idea that I could genuinely love a song from 1960. But I love this song!

  • @JennasHouse - what a idiot.. are you blonde?

  • @defmanz I'm not here to write a book or impress people. I think your response to my terse youtube video comment is a bit fxcking brainless. And you should have written "what aN idiot." Duh. Now from one "idiot" to another please just FOAD.

  • @JennasHouse - your father must have had a weak sperm when he made the mistake of fucking your mother

  • Pure Genius

  • they are gone forever my lost love....loquis...

Wow!...zero dislikes, there is hope for this music industry.

  • Love Roy Orbison, love this song.

  • Someone just get out the big knife and kill me. Talent like this is given to few.

  • The one and only! ROY!!!!

  • beauiful song

  • Beautiful

  • We all come from the same place and we all are lonely, but some of us are more lonely than others.

  • awesome!!! RO was great and this song too. wish the camera stayed on him more, i got whip lashed trying to keep up with that little rascal.

  • какой же кайф...настоящая,нежная лирика....

  • Even Elvis was quoted as saying that Roy was the greatest voice in Rock and Roll.

  • Thanks! What a great Talent, and Man! Loved the B&W video! I love the power of his voice and he barely opens his lips. Yea, a true singer

  • LIKE !

  • Merci pour cette excellente vidéo, cette chanson d' Elvis quel plaisir, une belle version par Roy Orbison. Un trés bon flach back . Nostalgie quand tu nous tient........C'est beau. Aline

  • It doesn't get better then this. Well, unless I go to heaven and this assembly of greats are there doing what they all do best.

    Royo, You are so missed.

    RIP, my friend

  • Roy was great. Not one person ever had anything bad to say about this great singer. I miss him very much. Please watch me sing this song as a tribute to this great performer. There was only one Roy,but I did my best. love Dan Dell

  • Go Roy go!

  • OMG check 2:00 and on.... WHAT A VOCAL RANGE in 2:12 his sounds even like a woman, and then he comes back to that tenor voice, JUST AMAZING and really, really hard to execute.

  • The 60's, Roy orbison, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly..etc...Roy always was my favorite, inme he found a fan forever till the day I die. Love his songs, have precious memories at some of them :) THANKS Roy for this great legacy you left us!

  • Great MV. Thanks for uploading.

  • A truly amazing voice. Even Elvis once said that Roy was the best vocalist. Roy had an amazing style. He barely moved on stage and yet all that sound and emotion came out anyway. It all came from inside of him.

How sad that a lousy heart condition took him so young. We will never know what more he might have done. Thank goodness he has been saved on videos and CD's. His music has given me many peaceful moments.

  • He is one of the best, if not the best ever! give me a great feeling, I want to listen to every word in his songs.

  • I love his grin after singing the first line... with all of the tragedy with his family he held on to his gift.

  • Credit also to the backup band here that is staying true to the original recording.

  • Gives me chills every time!!

  • Some stars get lucky breaks, but Roy is one of those musicians who would have made it no matter what. What an amazing voice!!

  • Brings tears. Very few can play their songs LIVE exactly the way they were originally recorded. That is genius and perfection.

  • I wonder what he would have done with My Pal Foot Foot

  • * * * * *

  • What a voice...we will never see the likes again.

  • Haunting, a pure vocal instrament.

  • July 1960 i had just joined the U S Navy at the courthouse in Cleveland Ohio and wondering why the hell i did a dumb thing like signing my life away to Uncle Sam.

It was a very "Lonely" feeling. I was sitting in a restaurant waiting for my burger and milkshake when all of a sudden i hear "Only the lonely" by Roy Orbison coming over the Juke Box. I'll never forget that inciden and from then own i became a fan of Orbisons music. He was on of the best ever.

  • ONLY THE LONELY..

  • Remember dancing to this song on American Bandstand - Bunny Gibson - Original American Bandstand Regular - Philly dancer Thank you Roy Orbison for your great voice and songs !!!

  • Sad Memories

  • God bless oldies,,

  • what a lineup, too! so many people loved Roy then, and many more later. The backing band was the TCB Band, which accompanied Elvis Presley from 1969 until his death in 1977: Glen D. Hardin on piano, James Burton on lead guitar, Jerry Scheff on bass, and Ronnie Tutt on drums. Male backing vocalists, /guitarists: Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Steven Soles. Female background vocalists: k.d. lang, Jennifer Warnes, and Bonnie Raitt.

  • @4WingedBeatlez

The concert was an instant classic of all the classics. My daddy always made a point to talk about how many "current" stars were chomping at the bit to be able to go down as playing a show with Roy. And, for good reason! I have not, since this one, seen a concert in which soooo many stars came out to sing with, not sing to, but to sing with such a notable start and icon. RIP, Roy my boy.

  • This man is pure magic My fav is Walk on It takes you into the next life God bless you Mr Orbiston YOU are in my soul You came through many hard times but your music took you and me to heaven...

  • Mr. Orbison!!!

  • As a kid, I first heard "Only the Lonely" on my transistor radio while scraping up golf balls at a driving range. I thought, "What a Voice," envisioning Orbison as some sort of cool antihero with ladykiller looks to rival Elvis. A new rock star. Then I finally saw a photo of him & thought, "Oh." But Roy hung in there, kept singing, charting hits, & won me over as a fan on the basis of sheer talent. I have friends who worked with him & said he was the nicest guy in show business. RIP, Roy.

  • Easy to miss but at 0:57 the violins are all wearing black Ray-Bans!

  • The real kicker is that the band backing Roy is Elvis's TCB Band

  • Gee..think Roy was loved and respected?..just look at the lineup of backup performers :)

  • É de aplaudir em pé o 'esforço' que ele faz para cantar, mesmo que em falsete, Maravilhoso!

  • Thats Jackson Browne in the middle of the two male singers!

  • Not bad for a blind guy!

  • @SkidRowJosephine

Roy wasn't blind. Bad eyesight, yes...wore thick glasses but preferred sunglasses (Ray-Bans) on stage.

  • Roy orbinson was a genius, just like Elvis.

    'That's the way it is'

  • @Roustaboutmusic I agree with you :)

  • Roy was the bestnobody comes close

    I prefer him to Elvis

he was a songwriting genius with an operatic vocal

and it was all heartbreaking songs

  • In 1960, a relatively unknown Roy Orbison sent this song to Elvis, who apparently missed it among the many recordings sent to him for consideration. Thus, Roy did it himself. The song launched his recording career, going to #2 on the Billboard chart & to #1 in the UK for 2 weeks. A rock-opera-ballad, "Only the Lonely" was a new sound that altered forever the rock 'n roll genre.

  • @WALRU11 thanks for the history , love to hear this kind of shit. Cheers mate

  • @WALRU11 That would make two then; apparently Elvis also turned down "Claudette" which Roy wrote about his first wife and was picked up by the Everly Bros, and features on the flip side of "All I have to Do Is Dream".

  • At the time, little was known of Roy. I was only 10 years old when i first heard him. I now think of him as an immortal ( although none truly exists, of course ).

There are few with the range and voice of this man. May he rest in peace, he brought joy to my life.

  • @WALRU11 Wow. Thanks for the trivia....very neat

  • @WALRU11 There will Absolutely Never be Another like Roy Orbison. He made great songs, was a good person in real life, Suffered great trauma but kept giving his fans music to love until the end of his days. He was a true Legend Of Rock and Roll!

  • ¡Una de las más grandes voces!

  • i love roy!

  • great song, nice quality, he's just the best, ever!!!!

  • The best,

  • Y los de Rolling Stone le dieron como cantante el lugar 13 señores si la fuman y no la controlan, no la consuman

  • Nice song!!! Greetings from Poland:)

  • Of course

  • @bialaroza30 Kurwa!
