  • There was a PBS documentary about HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED or something with Levon Helm and he and some guy who was local to somewhere on the highway journey did this song on a civil war battlefield. And I swore this was about a civil war veteran, Confederate, who took one last stand before returning home to his wife, family and farm. It was great. Wish I could find it.

  • @bush1tman

Try "The night they drove old Dixie down" by "The Band"

You'll find lots of versions but the one on the album "The Band" is the first published recording.

I've never seen Highway 61 Revisited so I can't comment on that.

  • @nationalartandcraft They did this song but with the words changed slightly. Just Levon and a guy with his guitar standing outside near a civil war monument. A PBS documentary that Levon narrated and travelled and visited famous places on highway 61 in Mississsippi and elsewhere. First time i ever heard this song was then. It was so good. Thanks anyway

  • This song is about Jesse's wife wanting Jesse to stop robbing banks and Jesse says one more time. Then as soon as there is a knock, it's about him getting shot and dying, but one more shot and he's dead.
