I caught a 16.5 inch about 2 pound smallmouth in my canoe just about 50 feet offshore of the beach near my cottage at Lake Erie. All I do is troll with spincasting baits.

Great vid they do seem to like the blue and silver crankbaits in the spring. I recently caught an 8 pound smallie in presqisle.
