I personally would have voted against it myself. I watched the original ending and I hated it. I do not think that it really fit into the movie. Then u had plants poppin out everywhere, that is crazy, I don't think anyone would have kept the plants once they figured out what was up.
@DsAngel1211 I know what you mean, and as I've said, I definitely agree. I'm not that big of a fan of the original ending. More so the movie, but even the play, were just otherwise presented way too light-heartedly, and then all of a sudden, such a downer ending? Don't get me wrong. Downer endings can be AWESOME! But, it has to be otherwise presented the right way. Usually, when it is kind of a dark story pretty much throughout anyway. This one was too campy and goofy for such a sad ending.
@DsAngel1211 Well the people that purchased the plants were, and I quote, "unsuspecting jerks from maine to california". They thought they'd be getting "fancy condos in beverly hills". By the time Seymour and everyone else realized what the plant wanted, it was big enough to get food itself. Watch the last scene again.
@drumlug13 ok but what I am saying is they were selling the smaller versions of these plants in this other ending. so seriously, they had to feed the fuckers something to make then grow, would u bloody well feed a plant that would move. only if u were dumb as hell
I think that the original ending is better. Because it shows how desperate Seymour is. He's not just an innocent little dude working in a flower shop. He's a tormented orphan who hates where he is and wants a better life. Seymour found Audrey II and realized that he was his only hope to finally get out of Skid Row once and for all. He knew what he was doing the whole time. He's not supposed to be innocent. Just clumsy, and timid. Innocent is not the word.
This would've been my favorite movie. But no, they have to change the ending. It was supposed to be an art film with humorous overtones, great musical numbers, and AN IMPORTANT MORAL LESSON ABOUT MURDER.
I know what you mean. But, I think in a way it still is that. The movie was changed in many ways that made Seymour look a lot more innocent. In the play, he more directly caused many of the deaths and feedings to Audrey II. In the movie, they kind of happen by accident. Even in the scene with the dentist, he couldn't bring himself to actually kill him. So, in a way, it has the same lesson in that Seymour finally saves the day and kills the plant.
@DrPeterVenkman1983 Seymour just stands there, letting the dentist die. Same with Mushnik. And hell, the least they could've done is NOT send Seymour to SOMEWHERE THAT'S GREEN. He ended up getting everything he ever wanted. And that wouldn't have happened if he didn't kill two innocent people. He just says "Aw shucks", and the events of the previous 90 minutes are forgotten as he gets everything he ever wanted. Plus, the happy ending is just anti-climatic. No SFX sequence, no cry-your-eyes-out,
The scene with the dentist looked a lot more innocent in the movie, though. It looked more like Seymour didn't realize exactly what was happening quickly enough to help. In the play, Seymour knows exactly what is happening and lets him die. Mushnick did look a little worse, but even then in the movie he did sort of try to warn him, it was just too late. So, I always kind of felt like they made him seem more like a good guy who got taken advantage of by the evil plant.
@ExclusiveCheese I know this is over nine months old but i just had to put my input in ya know and if you think about it the dentist was an abrussive boyfriend to the girl of seymours dreams I get why you say he shouldn't have just let him die the way he did but if you think about it what if one day the dentist got real pissed at audrey then he "accidently" beat her to death theres always two sides to a good story
He was supposed to look innocent. You can tell from the shots and facial expressions in Suppertime, for example, that Seymour isn't sure he wants to off Mushnik...but he backs him into the plant, with that whole "Should I be doing this?" look on his face, stuttering as he considered the consequences. But it's too late. As nervous and guilty as he was during the killings, that doesn't justify them. And all because of the plant, SEYMOUR CAN ESCAPE SKID ROW. And he owes it all to murder.
You know, I'm actually not sure. I've unfortunately never seen his movies. I'll have to be sure to check them out. I found the picture on Google Images.
LOL! I know. I must check out some of his work. Somehow it never crossed my mind to try before. I have Netflix now. I should see if they ever re-released it on DVD.
No, I've still been hooked on Ghostbusters: The Video Game. I've actually come to a conclusion. I'm never going to get bored of that game. I'm going to have to force myself to put it down (temporarily) so I can play Arkham Asylum. LOL! But, that will be the next game I'll be playing. Then I'll probably bo back to Ghostbusters: The Video Game once I am done with that.
I remeber seeing some black and white version of Little Shop of Horrors some years ago and in the end Seymour ended up killing the plant by letting him eat him. He went in with a knife and later everybody came to the shop and saw that the plant had died. But not before it bloomed a few big flowers with the faces of all the people it ate. The biggest flower had the face of Seymour and there was a voice that said, 'I didn't mean it' and then the flower died. Oh and the plant didn't talk at all.
Yeah, I saw the very end of that version once. Did Jerry Lewis play Seymour, or am I just going crazy? LOL! Anyway, that was a very different take on the story, and a very dramatic ending. The musical actually origionally had a similar ending, but for the movie they had to change it to a happy ending because test audiences HATED it without a happy ending.
I'm not so sure if it was Jerry Lewis as Seymour or not, but I also remember that Audrey was some girl who wasn't really nice at all, she was just some famous lady who went missing one day and found seymour. He was in some sort of trance at the time and she was killed by some rock that he threw in the air, and he fed her to the plant. It didn't talk, just made sounds.
I didn't see that part. That's weird. So, even the story was very different from the musical. Is the plant even supposedly from outerspace like in the musical version?
What is the video, or what is the movie it is talking about? The movie is Little Shop of Horrors. It was a musical and this is the movie version. The video itself is a video I created, mostly using a website where you can take your picture and create an animated character.
That's cool. Still, I think some musicals can actually be really good. I'm really fond of Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, and Jekyll & Hyde, myself.
That is from "The Lost Boys." I actually did a review of that as well.
It is an 80's vampire movie. Kiefer plays David, the leader of a vampire clan. Lost Boys is a cult classic that mixes comedy and horror in a perfect, campy, 80's style. You should check it out if you've never seen it. I highly recommend it.
Na the original ending is the one which gives the movie purpose, it shows how you shouldn't give in to greed as it can harm all the people around you, as well as yourself. The happy ending removes the whole moral of the story.
I suppose that is one way to see it. Personally, though, I think the happier ending does still maintain the moral of the story as well, while still not being so depressing. After all, a lot of bad things happen when Seymour lets the plant feed. It isn't until he realizes the err of his ways that things go right, and he fights to make them right. I personally think it is a better moral. One of redemption. Everybody makes mistakes, but it is never too late to do what is right.
That's true, but in the play version, they make it very obvious that he intentionally let him die, so it does make Seymour a little less lovable. In the movie, it kinda seems like he doesn't know what the Hell is going on, and it all happens so fast that it almost seems like he couldn't have done anything anyway. It makes him still seem like the lovable geek we want to see win, instead of the good guy gone bad.
there are a few. the first one i saw the plant didn't even put up a real fight when he/she died. Seymour hit him with something, the plant said aw shit" then you hear a bunch of booms. wagner, mullinger those are the only two with a happy ending here's to indicate.
sorry that didn't make sense. i saw two happy endings to the play. the first one seymour hit him/her with something (Audrey 2 never really put up a fight.) in that one, the second one, at the end you hear an "aw shit" from audrey 2 then you hear a bunch of booms.
I worked behind the scenes in stagecraft and I had to help in the construction of a Little Shops of Horrors play. The play was very successful but man it was a pain to make all the props. You'd be surprised by how much work goes into just making leaves.
That's really awesome! Sounds like a lot of fun even if it was a lot of hard work. I'd love to be involved in a play like that. Sounds like lots of fun.
In the end it was. It was better for other because some got to play the part of the plant or got to drop things on the audience during the play. I thought all of the plants and leaves looked great and it was cool knowing you had a part in making it so.
Sorry to hear that. Maybe Zarstar should reconsider giving up, though. The catchy songs would make the plants a hot item and lull people into a false sense of security until the plants could take over. Could be a great weapon of mass destruction. ;-)
I saw that movie when it first came out. It seems the flower was a failed genetic experiment from Zarstar Industries. We were trying to breed out the vocalizing. We failed.
I personally would have voted against it myself. I watched the original ending and I hated it. I do not think that it really fit into the movie. Then u had plants poppin out everywhere, that is crazy, I don't think anyone would have kept the plants once they figured out what was up.
