This was not only the death of two great characters, but the death of the GH that I really liked. Soon after the show went in a new direction that i didn't care for=The Sonny and Jason Show. :(
Thanks for this complete scene at WSB HQ. I still wonder how Gloria Monty would've shaped the "end" of Anna and Robert. She well might have presented their fate as an open question to the viewers. I like to think she would have structured the conclusion so that Sean alone would've been privy to intelligence suggesting they had survived. For GH to move on, of course, it would've been necessary to withhold such information from the folks in Port Charles, including Robin and Mac.
Oh, I think it was more powerful to have Sean believe that his bestest friends were dead. Giving him yet another secret to keep would have been...well, almost expected considering how many he's kept since he came onto the show. LOL Besides, Sean would never keep that from Tiff or Robin. I would have preferred if he had been convinced by a video or something better than photos though. GH has never convincingly explained how Robert, Anna and Faison survived the boat blowing up, in my opinion.
I'm glad you understood my reasoning even if you disagree in terms of dramatic impact. That limited photographic evidence oh-so-conveniently provided by the WSB official was not very convincing.
I'm with Donely in suspecting WSB's Number Two Garrison of complicity in setting up R&A for assassination. Perhaps he acted in concert with Faison, perhaps he just took advantage of Anna's kidnapping. Clearly he had a motive....
Yes, while I think it was correct to have Sean believe that his friends were dead, it looks like he accepted the information way too easily. They should have at least had him protest like Mac and then come to the conclusion that they were gone. But then again, Sean seemed to have more faith in the WSB than any of the other former agents. Maybe because he was once the head? Oh well. You can't have great writing all the time, not even back then. LOL
Sean seemed torn between suspicion and trust re the WSB. That renders him very real to me, because in life such a situation would likely be ambiguous.
IMHO, John Reilly made Sean Donely one of THE BEST characters ever portrayed on daytime TV.
Very much agreed! He had real depth and made you think when you watched him. You wanted to trust him because he's a good guy, but he's one of those that's very hard to read. Too bad there aren't any characters like that on today's GH. IMO, they're as 1 dimensional as they come.
With the way the government *really* operates, it wouldn't surprise me at all that Garrison set the whole black box in motion for reasons other than being afraid Anna was going to give Faison information. Though I think that's a legitimate concern because Faison had put her under mind control before so it's not such a stretch to think he'd do it again. Either way, it was a great cover for Garrison to use to get control over the WSB.
That's a good point too. Sean has always been a man of many secrets, some of which nearly cost Robert and Anna their lives as well as Sean's friendship with the Scorpios. Another good point is why didn't they shoot video? The police do, so why wouldn't the WSB? Sean pointed out that the sunlight in the images hadn't changed and the timecodes matched up, but as Pisces has pointed out, all that is rather easily faked. The whole ordeal was as shady as it gets!
You're very welcome for the clip! I asked Carali if she wanted it for her channel but she deleted the comment so I take that as a "no". LOL Anyway, I always thought it was funny that they made Sean privy to any of it. He doesn't work for the WSB any more so I'm surprised they gave him as much info as they did. They're such a shady organization anyway for being the "good guys", so I'm again surprised that Sean even trusts them or the pictures they conveniently didn't show the audience.
