In my opinion you have the heads of the toms tuned too high. And the bottom heads could be too tight. Bottom or "reso" heads should be tuned slighter looser than batter side heads. The first key of tuning a drum properly is to get the head in tune with itself when you first put it on. Google how to properly tune a drum, follow it to the letter, and you will see an immediate improvement. I also suggest new, different heads than those. I like Evans. Stay away from thickies like pinstripes.
I know there is a great site dedicated to drum tuning.....goes right down to pitch, notes, resonance....pretty much everything but Einsteins theory!..lol
I need to get into beats more, rather than military based stuff...can you tell I was in corps for 11 years???
Anyways, thanks for the in.....always appreciate + stuff!
very good hand work. You must have been into marching or band drumming. very smooth and fluid. maybe just tune the rack toms a little higher, as far as playing..why not go into some cool beats. i love your fills, but try experimenting with some foot work and some polyrythms. check out dave weckl
Going off of the tom run that you did at 2:47. I'd say that your lowest tom either needs a new head or needs to be tuned up. It's sounds like it's super loose or something is just weird about it.
Start investing in more or better cymbals. And try experiencing the placement with them.
I play drums for my church and after 4-5 years of doing so i've learned the two most basic rules. "Appearence for the audience come first" and "If it looks awkward to play, it probably is."
great stuff. cymbals are fine. but i don't recommend tuning your tome like that with clear heads. that would sound really good with some Evans G2 coated heads though. and watch the paradiddlediddle splits, just a little inconsistency.
awful cymbals?.. uh sabian AA and AAX are not awful cymbals.. do you play drums? awful is B8's... or something.. and with zildjians zbt's.. cymbals are not the cheapest thing in the world either.. ha.. it takes time to buy the cymbals you want and the set up you want.. i think the cymbals sound great...
You started off ok then you got better.

Well, thanks....
Yes I was in drum corps, hence the stick control.
But yes you are absolutely right, I need to get some rhythms going......and my hands and feet don't really speak the same language..lol
As soon as my wall pounding neighbours move, I am going back to 1/2 hr or so each night on the kit.
Cheers!

Thanks for the input.......do you think the toms are too low, too high, or what.
I was trying for a deeper sound, but I guess it didn't come out like that..LOL
let me know.

It may just be the video I'm not sure..but your drums are tuned very odd.

I came into this video think that this video was 6 minutes of drumming without heads and was wondering how this was gonna work out.
Not dissappointed though. Even though I did kinda wanna see that, haha.

Daryk44......what do you mean by tuning?
Do you mean they are pitched too high, or are not tuned far enough apart.
I tried to tune to the circle of 1/5ths but the top ended up piccolo and the bottom was a paper bag!..LOL
Give me your input, I appreciate anything that is not BS..
Thanks

wat the diff between white heads and clear heads?
drumdrumdrumming 5 years ago
the white ones have a coating on them.
it sort of dampens the sound.
astrozombie777 3 years ago
white heads are coated that means it haves a diffrent sound
