@buddhastalin obviously that isn't the reason. the reason was dicks like you who never had any common courtesy to treat people the way they should be treated. I know it's ridiculous to get in a debate on YouTube, but it's even more ridiculous that people have lost the ability to hold a door open for a stranger, or spare a dollar.. Elliott said his vision of heaven was a place where "people would do nice things for each other, for no reason at all." I agree with him more and more as I get older.
my teacher in HS that changed my life, the only teacher i talked to, i talked about how me and him shared interest in elliott smith, he told me that he had died and committed sucide a few years back and how he went to his tribute concert.
he told me that he thought me and him were similar.
he saved my life.
elliott smith saved my life, it's too bad he took his own...
@VincentPrice111 i know the whole story behind it and everything, but someone who seems as troubled as him... its hard to believe otherwise. but a jealous/bitter gf could be the the problem as well...
@spliggity haha thank you so much! i eventually found it, i can never remember which elliott songs are which, love seeing him jump around with this playing :)
@treid100182 Elliott Smith is amazing, but don't talk shit about Nick Drake. His story was even more tragic then Elliotts, and their level of genius was about equal.
@MaybeLasting because, speaking unbiased, my heart will go on is a well written song with a lot of feeling ? to be fair ? If it was against angeles maybe not :-)
The 90s seem to me like a period when people strived to come to terms with reality especially the gritty parts. I won't go ahead and assume everyone was trying to be honest. But in music like Mr. Smith's, it seems as if artists then had a sense of braving certain truths about life - not acting as they've figured them out, but understanding how much they haven't.
It makes me feel like I've missed out on an important period in music history.
By crossing over to the other side prematurely Elliott, you have truncated a matchless artistic career and deprived humanity of its biggest heart, but failed you have not. In any event the true artist, the living, breathing soul of the man of genius dies seldom. A kiss upon your heart! Shall we ever see your like again ol' boy?
@zicomox he got into a fight with his gf in their apartment she locked herself in the bathroom he stabbed himself 2ce in the chest and left a post it saying im sorry. no drugs in his system just antidepressents and add meds
@morse3388 fun for a day. not fun t live in that world really. not punk at all but pretty funny. all these famous people, like "who is this guy?" now he's wondering the same thing.
Thank you for posting this. His music continues to moves me deeply every time i really listen to it. The world lost a great spirit far too early when he died.
You can see the self reflection in his face when he talks about Drugs and Alcohol causing failure. Although he obviously had a lot of negative emotion to kill he knew the substances were not making anything better, just bearable.
everytime I watch this video, especially around 5:20 where he can't continute "Waltz #2"...man...that breaks my heart. Elliott Smith had really been through a lot during his time.
Rest in peace. Wait, is it appropriate to stay rest in peace, when Elliott was cremated? Or does it make no difference?
In all these interviews of elliot on youtube those stupid interviewers keep annoying him with useless questions on the oscar performance, he had nothing to do with this superficial and talentless world; and he's too shy and kind to say "fuck off, these kind of mascarades are for brainwashed people"; he was sincere, sensitive that's why he was a great human being. All these entertaining machines piss me off!
Well, yeah, but then every interview on youtube has one or more people in it calling the interviewer a "stupid interviewer" for asking a fairly basic question. Occasionally, it feels like some Elliott Smith fans hate everyone *except* for Elliott Smith.
my favorite parts of his voice were the deep seething whisper, and the high falsetto parts that were so chilling they're almost frightening-- like Christian Brothers. He'll always have a place in my heart.
I would give anything to talk with Elliott. He just seems so understanding and compassionate. I love him for his music that he has given to us and he will never be forgotten, I can promise him that.
This is good, would of been nice if you had done a sort of over dub of you talking about him, linked to related bits of video and stuff. Love it anyway x

@cjdawdj Yeah, that's true. I just get a bit annoyed whenever anyone says he definitely did it.
To claim something we can never know as fact (IE, making it a statement) is something I've always disliked.
but I mean, he was clean 6 months before he died, he was going to do another album, defense wounds present, a weird looking suicide note.
But yeah, we'll never know for sure.
There always has to be confusion added to the deaths of musicians...
