  • i live the ultimate irony. if i were in any way as talented as this man was... i would not be listening to his music

  • @buddhastalin obviously that isn't the reason. the reason was dicks like you who never had any common courtesy to treat people the way they should be treated. I know it's ridiculous to get in a debate on YouTube, but it's even more ridiculous that people have lost the ability to hold a door open for a stranger, or spare a dollar.. Elliott said his vision of heaven was a place where "people would do nice things for each other, for no reason at all." I agree with him more and more as I get older.

  • What a shame he isn' t around anymore

  • :(

  • "those would be types of failures" , that shit was something else lol

  • what a badass

  • he in no way played waltz 2 "badly"

  • amazing power and emotion in his voice and words.

  • the waltz two makes me sad when he stops he just seemed so defeated

  • @backpocketfoundation Why is it poor taste? Nothing wrong with it.

  • my teacher in HS that changed my life, the only teacher i talked to, i talked about how me and him shared interest in elliott smith, he told me that he had died and committed sucide a few years back and how he went to his tribute concert.

he told me that he thought me and him were similar.

    he saved my life.

elliott smith saved my life, it's too bad he took his own...

  • @cjdawdj he didn't necessarily take his own.

    It was inconclusive.

  • @VincentPrice111 i know the whole story behind it and everything, but someone who seems as troubled as him... its hard to believe otherwise. but a jealous/bitter gf could be the the problem as well...

no one but him and god know the truth.

  • @cjdawdj Yeah, that's true. I just get a bit annoyed whenever anyone says he definitely did it.

To claim something we can never know as fact (IE, making it a statement) is something I've always disliked.

but I mean, he was clean 6 months before he died, he was going to do another album, defense wounds present, a weird looking suicide note.

But yeah, we'll never know for sure.

There always has to be confusion added to the deaths of musicians...

  • He's so Nick Drake, Kurt Cobain...an amazing montage...thanks so much!

  • ill drink to you, elliott. my inspiration. The only man i truly admire

  • @WeARySOULdierS I call him my brother from another mother R I P brother xo

  • Elliot was the King of Pain, himself.

  • his music still gives me chills 10 years later...

  • I love him so much I love him so much I love him so much. Thank you for everything

  • what language?

  • 'i can't do this song, i've played it too many times.'

    we miss you elliott.

  • WHAT IS THEW NAME OF THE SONG AT 1:45?????

  • @middleclassgangster Independence Day

  • @spliggity haha thank you so much! i eventually found it, i can never remember which elliott songs are which, love seeing him jump around with this playing :)

  • @middleclassgangster haha my bad different guy jumping around

  • @middleclassgangster Independence Day

  • @middleclassgangster independence day

  • If you´re into this type of music, you´d probably enjoy some of the stuff I´ve uploaded on my channel. Just probably...

  • Nick Drake is a doucher.

  • @treid100182 Elliott Smith is amazing, but don't talk shit about Nick Drake. His story was even more tragic then Elliotts, and their level of genius was about equal.

  • fantastic upload on another fallen genius.

  • His music is therapy for a lot of people. But I'm sure that's been said a million times.

  • I learned from his mistakes and music. He saved my life, even in death Elliott still saves me.

  • He already is big & famous

  • Rest in peace.

  • when he was playing waltz the guitar didn't really sound like it was tuned down enough for his voice to hit those bridge notes

there's another video on youtube of him doing the same song and it sounds like the guitar is like down a whole step

  • I can't believe that Celine Dion's 'My heart will go on' beat 'Miss Misery' and got the Oscar instead!

    Whatever happened to the world???

  • @MaybeLasting Good things you might never understand.

  • @MaybeLasting because, speaking unbiased, my heart will go on is a well written song with a lot of feeling ? to be fair ? If it was against angeles maybe not :-)

  • miss misery is a better written song with more feeling

  • dying, doing drugs, killing emotions are popular ways to fail? it kinda sounds like him, though he certainly didn't play anything too safe

  • I was pretty young when he was still around.

The 90s seem to me like a period when people strived to come to terms with reality especially the gritty parts. I won't go ahead and assume everyone was trying to be honest. But in music like Mr. Smith's, it seems as if artists then had a sense of braving certain truths about life - not acting as they've figured them out, but understanding how much they haven't.

It makes me feel like I've missed out on an important period in music history.

  • @bohemianbeagle Apparently you didnt miss out, cause you understand the 90s. Feel bad you got the crappy 2000 or whatever its called.

  • @bohemianbeagle Great observation, very well said

  • By crossing over to the other side prematurely Elliott, you have truncated a matchless artistic career and deprived humanity of its biggest heart, but failed you have not. In any event the true artist, the living, breathing soul of the man of genius dies seldom. A kiss upon your heart! Shall we ever see your like again ol' boy?

  • The beginning with this first note from "Angeles" is perfect! Love that.

  • The way he says "I'm the wrong kind of person to be really big and famous." makes me really sad. His modesty overwhelms me.

  • Thanks for keeping me sane. Miss you Elliott

  • would someone want to tell me how he died :( ? the real and the whole story?

  • @zicomox he got into a fight with his gf in their apartment she locked herself in the bathroom he stabbed himself 2ce in the chest and left a post it saying im sorry. no drugs in his system just antidepressents and add meds

  • 'Sad sack' interviewer: completely annoying

  • @sstyblo yeah she was kinda rude

  • he fell into a popular way to fail, dieing...

  • WHO IN THE FUCK thumbs down this!

  • Neil Cicierega sounds like Elliott Smith, at least when Elliott is talking. I just noticed this

  • You are famous to me, my dear.

All your songs have touched me and I almost tear up listening to then now that you are gone.

    Rest in peace

  • thank you for making this video by the way.

  • "i'm the wrong kind of person to be really famous"

    yeah, he's was too talented.

  • @morse3388 fun for a day. not fun t live in that world really. not punk at all but pretty funny. all these famous people, like "who is this guy?" now he's wondering the same thing.

  • Thank you for posting this. His music continues to moves me deeply every time i really listen to it. The world lost a great spirit far too early when he died.

  • one of the greatest songwriters ever

  • what a beautifully awkward man. RIP my dear

  • Why must EVERYONE spell his name wrong?

  • @lizerrrCakes people suck

  • @lizerrrCakes because it's not the most popular way of spelling it? haha

  • @lizerrrCakes .does it MATTER?

  • @lizerrrCakes

Is that all you took from this?

  • I love that he stopped. Love.

  • wow mary lou lord is a dum ass...my boy elliott is nothing like them 3, he is far better in every aspect!!

  • Your boy?

  • lol i wish he was my boy, was just talking

  • i love elliott, so honest and sincere till the very end.

  • Mister Elliott Smith, we hope you're satisfied.

  • Thank you for sharing this .One of the most brilliant artists that ever lived ,no question about it.

  • "I do the same thing... I did before" Freudian slip? probably not, but its certainly touching.

  • can't you tell that it's well understood?

  • I love listening to him talk.

  • You can see the self reflection in his face when he talks about Drugs and Alcohol causing failure. Although he obviously had a lot of negative emotion to kill he knew the substances were not making anything better, just bearable.

  • This is beautifully done. Great job. In this context the Oscars clip seems more strange, unreal and otherworldly. Your film made my day!

  • This guy is brilliant. And I do miss him, so much.

  • everytime I watch this video, especially around 5:20 where he can't continute "Waltz #2"...man...that breaks my heart. Elliott Smith had really been through a lot during his time.

Rest in peace. Wait, is it appropriate to stay rest in peace, when Elliott was cremated? Or does it make no difference?

  • doesn't make a difference. i wish him nothing but peace also. maybe that's what he was looking for and couldn't find it here ...

  • Elliott: "Uhm, I dunno, am I a sad-sack?"

    Other guy: "Absoltuley not!"

I loved that part, Elliott was so adorable.

  • In all these interviews of elliot on youtube those stupid interviewers keep annoying him with useless questions on the oscar performance, he had nothing to do with this superficial and talentless world; and he's too shy and kind to say "fuck off, these kind of mascarades are for brainwashed people"; he was sincere, sensitive that's why he was a great human being. All these entertaining machines piss me off!

  • Well, yeah, but then every interview on youtube has one or more people in it calling the interviewer a "stupid interviewer" for asking a fairly basic question. Occasionally, it feels like some Elliott Smith fans hate everyone *except* for Elliott Smith.

  • Hahahaha, well put.

  • great video, well done :)

  • it takes a lot of balls to stop playin a song just cos it doesn't feel right so another proof of elliott's artistic tendancies

  • agreement, i liked his explination

  • They spelled his name wrong in the 1st interview :(

  • i know... that annoyed me too

  • my favorite parts of his voice were the deep seething whisper, and the high falsetto parts that were so chilling they're almost frightening-- like Christian Brothers. He'll always have a place in my heart.

  • as weird and out of place Elliot was at the Oscars, that was one of his best performances.

    Unbelievable.

  • elliott is the man

  • I would give anything to talk with Elliott. He just seems so understanding and compassionate. I love him for his music that he has given to us and he will never be forgotten, I can promise him that.

  • who thinks he was a sad sack?

  • what an amazing person

  • what's a sad sack?

  • a sad sack is someone who continually fails

and other people feel sorry for him.

  • This is fantastic man. Thanks for this!

  • Ellott ,안녕!

  • "I'm the wrong kind of person to be really big and famous"

    what an amazing quote!

he had no faith in himself, but he was unbelievable talent..

    we miss you, elliott

  • This is good, would of been nice if you had done a sort of over dub of you talking about him, linked to related bits of video and stuff. Love it anyway x

  • This is brilliant - thank you.

  • great work thank you

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you for this.

  • such a heartbreaking bit when he stopped waltz 2. The man had to go through so much

  • thanx for making this compilation=]

    xx

  • I love all these.

  • likte denne videoen her ja!!:P

  • høhø! takk!
