@WhyItsMeBre We sure do have scales, our axle weights are about the same as yours but because we've got a lot of axles our gross weights are a lot more.
@farmguy2400 Nearly all the Macks made in Australia used to have airstarts. Electric starts are a lot cheaper so that's the way things have gone. You can option air start on KW.
Great stuff, you guys in Australia move some big loads, would love to see what them D.O.T. guys would say if they saw those on the interstate over here in the states, lol. wonder if they'd pull out those lil portable scales, lol. keep'em coming!
@cat977loader They've got portables over here too, but the full size quads have got 22 axles so they're not that keen to use them, especially if it's 120 deg outside lol. The Shell tanker in the vid is a "double B-Double" so it's only got 19 axles. Usually Shell and BP run 22 axles up there.
@kennjohnsen we dont generally run big sleepers over here due to length restrictions. the lengths are as follows - single trailer 19 m (62.3 ft), 2 trailer 36.5 m (120 ft) and 3 trailer 53.5 m (176 ft). These are all maximum allowable lengths. If we ran large U.S. style sleepers we would need to use shorter trailers to meet the requirements.
Man you guys over there rock, with triples and quads!! It would be nice to see that here in the US but that would not be practical. You guys are part of a dying breed for sure!
@gm16v149 if you are a temporary visitor, a UK or RoI licence would get you a HC only to use during your stay, but if you were going to stay permenantly, you would need to sit all the tests as if you had never had a truck licence before.... a UK cat A would entitle you to a AU R class and a UK cat B would get you a Car conversion without precticals, but i believe you still have to pass theory.
@McFearsome2 there is no eqivelant to an AU MC licence anywhere else in the world, so it is not possible to drive an MC vehicle on an international permit.
@hugos31 Volvo bought out Mack, but as yet, there is no common parts or technology.... at the moment, mack offer Cummins or Detriot engines... (Cat no longer builds on highway truck engines, and mack have dropped thier own brand).
it is theorised (i have no confirmations or inside knowledge) that Mack and Volvo will develop common parts and engines...
most dealerships are still seperate. seperate locations, seperate franchisees..
@McFearsome2 I don't know about the U.S. but in Australia Mack and Volvo share the same factory in Brisbane, QLD. The new Mack MP8 and MP10 engines are basically Volvo engines with a few small differences. The Mack you can also spec Cummins Signature or ISX engines but not Detroit. Also Mack's m-Drive autoshift is almost identical to Volvo's I-Shift.
@gm16v149 you are probably right about that... i haven't been to my local mack dealer since i changed employers (i had a really nice CH that was serviced by mack, mostly at beresfield but also in bris. until it caught fire and burnt to the rims...). so i dont know all the latest info... the volvo/mack amalgamation sounds like its progressing nicely...
my bro has got a mack titan v8 and its shit it self and cant get new pistons can and one give me advice on if u can get them and ill pass it on to him its a shame she died cos the v8 rocks
@gm16v149 yeah im interested now, maybe i wanted to believe it was a c16 haha but you got me buggered now, the more i listen to it the more i think your right it sounds like a gen 2 sig. i think when it chuffs past at idle you can hear the rumpty rump that the older sigs had, now if you go and tell me its an isx egr well i will just shoot myself ha ha...
haha good to see eddie holland on there, have you seen his old mack, the eddieliner or so he calles it, see him all the time, i live in darwin, drive through truck city everyday!!!
i used to drive an 85 superliner as i may of told u awhile back she had a v8 that was about 550hp with 12sp and it too had the coffin bunk i had a look and went nah my guts wont fit thru there lol
@rwb1955 Yep, you never see those tiny sleepers nowadays. Don't know how they put up with them. The guy in the vid that owns it just uses it to pick up machinery.
@gm16v149 From what I heard, strait from an old school Australian truckie, they rarely used the sleepers. They would rater sleep outside as the sleeper would turn into a sauna in the Australian heat. They would use it if the weather permitted or it was raining (rarely). So that is the explanation I heard. Dont know how true it is but like I said that answer is strait from the horses mouth.
@lordtaw That would be true 20 or 30 years ago but now the sleepers are much bigger on conventionals and just about everyone that goes out into the heat would have an 'IcePak' or similar diesel-powered refrigerated sleeper air-conditioner, like the one I've got behind the cab on my truck.
@CreRay That one would go about 145 tonnes with 6 tri-axle groups but most of the fuel tankers up there run 7 tri-axle groups which gross out at about 170 tonnes.
BTW the engine you can hear is the Mack E9 V8 in the blue & white Titan.
@gm16v149 : Ah I hear it now too. But at around 0:45, that's your own truck right?
170Tons is awesome, almost incredible. Over here in Europe there are a few 58Ton combinations (normal limit is 40tons), but they're only allowed on fixed routes, and special training is required for the driver. I must come to Austrailia one day, even if it were only for the trucks!
The 4 trailer, 22 axle (86 wheels) road trains are the most common roadtrain for Shell & BP fuel in the N.T. They are a B-train + 2 trailers and 2 dollies.
The one in the vid is 2 B-trains joined with 1 dolly, so it's smaller than normal.
Gotta love the sound of a turbo diesel v8

Can you tell me how many tons that combintation is with the 4 Shell tank trailers? I've never seen anything that large.
CreRay 1 year ago
@CreRay That one would go about 145 tonnes with 6 tri-axle groups but most of the fuel tankers up there run 7 tri-axle groups which gross out at about 170 tonnes.
BTW the engine you can hear is the Mack E9 V8 in the blue & white Titan.
gm16v149 1 year ago
@gm16v149 : Ah I hear it now too. But at around 0:45, that's your own truck right?

@CreRay Yes that's my truck at 0.45.
The 4 trailer, 22 axle (86 wheels) road trains are the most common roadtrain for Shell & BP fuel in the N.T. They are a B-train + 2 trailers and 2 dollies.
