  • Gotta love the sound of a turbo diesel v8

  • does mack v8 500 or 600 hp still disponible in australia ?

  • @daavid1974 They don't make Mack V8 engines any more but there are still plenty around. The last V8 was 610 HP.

  • I wonder how they start them if there is no air

  • @DownUnderDoug An air line and 3 tyres to pump up the tank.

  • what is the fuel capacity of those road trains?

  • @gmellis From about 1800 to 3000 litres.

  • @gm16v149 the fuel will definitely out-distance the bladder :-)

  • Very cool. I have a You Tube friend from Adelaide.

  • cool have you driven a mack ?

  • @MrMacktrucksforlife I've driven a few over the years.

  • good stuff chris

  • the last mack got some mad max style hahah

  • hey why all autralian have air starts? and no like my electric one like my ford diesel truck !??

  • @dieselinside69 Only some trucks are air start..most are electric.

  • Favs for sure, I drive a Scania 400G semi automatic good for parcels and thats about it LOL, love these big trucks cheers

    sNEaKY

  • Awesome video

  • Are there no scales in Australia?

I see you guys have up to 4 trailers attached

    well just asking

  • @WhyItsMeBre We sure do have scales, our axle weights are about the same as yours but because we've got a lot of axles our gross weights are a lot more.

  • thanks, if u know a job for an experienced driver....... i am available

  • great video, especially the second MACK.

very beautyfull truck and super sound, is it an emigrated dutch owner??

  • @zandmannetje390 No, they've been in Australia for generations as far as I know.

  • @zandmannetje390 the 2nd truck has taken truck of the year for multiple years. his name is eddie holland, great friend of ours :)

  • @crocjnr ok, awsome truck and sound. I have driven an V8 SCANIA torpedo truck for years with open pipes. Great times

  • im a noob in trucks but how much torque does this truck??

  • @jnr1989 Probably more than 2000 ft/lbs

  • Now this is trucking! Awesome video.

  • @dingus8888 Thanks glad you like it. Shame they don't make a V8 anymore.

  • do all the trucks have air starters and why are they being used over electric starters?

  • @farmguy2400 Nearly all the Macks made in Australia used to have airstarts. Electric starts are a lot cheaper so that's the way things have gone. You can option air start on KW.

  • 3:57 Did he seriously jus call the stacks chimneys?

  • @ZBecicka He was joking.

  • i like this video ,........dig the trucks and the way y'all talk,.......especially when that guy says dual chimneys(stacks)

  • now this was a great video

  • Great stuff, you guys in Australia move some big loads, would love to see what them D.O.T. guys would say if they saw those on the interstate over here in the states, lol. wonder if they'd pull out those lil portable scales, lol. keep'em coming!

  • @cat977loader They've got portables over here too, but the full size quads have got 22 axles so they're not that keen to use them, especially if it's 120 deg outside lol. The Shell tanker in the vid is a "double B-Double" so it's only got 19 axles. Usually Shell and BP run 22 axles up there.

  • @gm16v149

How long are the trailers allowed to be, 3 times 48 foot ?

  • @kennjohnsen We generally use 45' trailers but fuel trailers are shorter, as long as max length of road train is 53.5 meter max.

  • @gm16v149

I just wonder I never seeing large sleepers like in the US, why is that, there should be plenty of lenght for it.

  • @kennjohnsen we dont generally run big sleepers over here due to length restrictions. the lengths are as follows - single trailer 19 m (62.3 ft), 2 trailer 36.5 m (120 ft) and 3 trailer 53.5 m (176 ft). These are all maximum allowable lengths. If we ran large U.S. style sleepers we would need to use shorter trailers to meet the requirements.

  • Real trucks tarps & chained, "not my cup of coffee" But still it's a grate video mate!

  • Is the ValueLiner at the end also a V8???

  • @huppypuppy It is a 6 cylinder Mack engine, I think on that model they were Renault derivatives but not sure on that.

  • как их обгонять

  • @Adamserush Они хороший грузовик

  • Great video, I'd love to come over there.

  • Man you guys over there rock, with triples and quads!! It would be nice to see that here in the US but that would not be practical. You guys are part of a dying breed for sure!

  • Can I get a temperary license so I can come over and play a bit..HAHAHA..Great vid, keep um coming

  • @toothpik206 Yeah but I want to come over and have a steer of that V12 Cat you got :)

  • can you use a irish driving licence in austrailla?or do you have to sit all the tests again?

  • @phillycent100 Not sure about a car licence but a truck licence you would have to start from scratch.

  • @gm16v149 if you are a temporary visitor, a UK or RoI licence would get you a HC only to use during your stay, but if you were going to stay permenantly, you would need to sit all the tests as if you had never had a truck licence before.... a UK cat A would entitle you to a AU R class and a UK cat B would get you a Car conversion without precticals, but i believe you still have to pass theory.

  • @McFearsome2 there is no eqivelant to an AU MC licence anywhere else in the world, so it is not possible to drive an MC vehicle on an international permit.

  • Anyone know why they all have air starters? please let me know I thought those where just for mining operations.

  • @atmbcool Macks had them as standard in Australia up to a few years ago, they are more robust than electric but you've got to maintain them.

  • @gm16v149 Cool thanks for the info.

  • Macks inherited the technology VOLVO

  • @hugos31 Volvo bought out Mack, but as yet, there is no common parts or technology.... at the moment, mack offer Cummins or Detriot engines... (Cat no longer builds on highway truck engines, and mack have dropped thier own brand).

it is theorised (i have no confirmations or inside knowledge) that Mack and Volvo will develop common parts and engines...

most dealerships are still seperate. seperate locations, seperate franchisees..

  • @McFearsome2 I don't know about the U.S. but in Australia Mack and Volvo share the same factory in Brisbane, QLD. The new Mack MP8 and MP10 engines are basically Volvo engines with a few small differences. The Mack you can also spec Cummins Signature or ISX engines but not Detroit. Also Mack's m-Drive autoshift is almost identical to Volvo's I-Shift.

  • @gm16v149 you are probably right about that... i haven't been to my local mack dealer since i changed employers (i had a really nice CH that was serviced by mack, mostly at beresfield but also in bris. until it caught fire and burnt to the rims...). so i dont know all the latest info... the volvo/mack amalgamation sounds like its progressing nicely...

  • i would like to drive one of these titans !! grat trucks i love macks

  • Man that Silver Titan Sounded Tough ,a true Mack!

  • @trainmasterfm2 Would be better with an E9 V8, then it really would be a true Mack!

  • @gm16v149 That is true. lol

  • @gm16v149 That is one of Eddy Holland's Macks - he owns the EddyLiner R750!

  • @huppypuppy We were all up at Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley when that was taken.

  • The red Mack at the end is Mr jarrats and it sits in Cambellfield Victoria ...Haven't seen Mr Jarrat for a while now

  • @BnSRTVguy That was him in the vid with the Mack.

  • my bro has got a mack titan v8 and its shit it self and cant get new pistons can and one give me advice on if u can get them and ill pass it on to him its a shame she died cos the v8 rocks

  • @gjn71 I thought you could still easily get parts for Mack V8s though someone told me it was hard to get blocks.

  • @gjn71 Looking for mack V8 pistons & blocks go to your local Scania spare parts as they are interchangable in all but cylnder heads are mack heads.

  • @pavel4 Not sure what year but my guess mid-80s.

  • awesome vid, sounds like the holland mack has a c-16 with 7inch straights... thanks for sharing....

  • @ipdaily6 Actually he's a Cummins man so it would be ISX or Signature, I'll ask him next time see him.

  • @gm16v149 yeah im interested now, maybe i wanted to believe it was a c16 haha but you got me buggered now, the more i listen to it the more i think your right it sounds like a gen 2 sig. i think when it chuffs past at idle you can hear the rumpty rump that the older sigs had, now if you go and tell me its an isx egr well i will just shoot myself ha ha...

  • they must be glad to have a great job like that

  • air start sounds perfect

  • bonjour de la France good video .

  • Hello Chris

    Excellent video about Roadtrains.

Fantastic ''Holland"' Mack at the beginning!

    Keep up the good work!

    Jack.

  • Eddie liner!! you legend!

  • haha good to see eddie holland on there, have you seen his old mack, the eddieliner or so he calles it, see him all the time, i live in darwin, drive through truck city everyday!!!

  • @mymate69 Yeah I've seen it, we helped his driver fix a fuel problem when it broke down a few years ago near Wauchope NT

  • Nice '89 Superliner. Drove same thing ('91) for a while. Can't beat the sound and performance of the old V8.

  • i used to drive an 85 superliner as i may of told u awhile back she had a v8 that was about 550hp with 12sp and it too had the coffin bunk i had a look and went nah my guts wont fit thru there lol

  • Like this video I had a superliner like the older red superliner with the coffin sleeper

  • @rwb1955 Yep, you never see those tiny sleepers nowadays. Don't know how they put up with them. The guy in the vid that owns it just uses it to pick up machinery.

  • @gm16v149 From what I heard, strait from an old school Australian truckie, they rarely used the sleepers. They would rater sleep outside as the sleeper would turn into a sauna in the Australian heat. They would use it if the weather permitted or it was raining (rarely). So that is the explanation I heard. Dont know how true it is but like I said that answer is strait from the horses mouth.

  • @lordtaw That would be true 20 or 30 years ago but now the sleepers are much bigger on conventionals and just about everyone that goes out into the heat would have an 'IcePak' or similar diesel-powered refrigerated sleeper air-conditioner, like the one I've got behind the cab on my truck.

  • Superb video!!!

  • @TheRubberDuck1 I don't think you would see too many Mack trucks in Europe.

  • @gm16v149 I hope to watch soon from you other excellent videos about roadtrains!!!

    Greetings from Italy!

  • v8 yes

its bad that they com with volvo now

especially since scania comes with 730hp

  • @karlssonm The Cummins Signature is an option and that is what the guys will go for in the Titan and Superliner.

  • Beautiful - " Macks Road Train ". Great video.

  • @PavelJanda1 Thanks

  • Chris you are the man. This vid is the bulldogs dangalies. Keep them turbos whistleing.

  • @LeMagnum440 How would you be driving that Shell roadtrain down the M1, turn heads say what?

  • Can you show how you hook up and unhook a road train.

  • @MrKenwortht908 Later !

  • Great work and superb trucks Great video Greetings from Belgium P

  • @7784Patrick Enjoy your summer over there.

  • @statusmaximus Thanks for watching

  • @oscerse Thanks

  • @puppet6475II They got character about them like the old W model KW.

  • great vid, love the sound of the air starters

  • @s00059503 You can still buy them on new Kenworths but as far as I know not on new Macks but I could be wrong.

  • Superb video. Excellent quality, beautiful trucks, the usual nice weather, and to finish it off, the lovely engine note of that 3408 of yours.

Can you tell me how many tons that combintation is with the 4 Shell tank trailers? I've never seen anything that large.

  • @CreRay That one would go about 145 tonnes with 6 tri-axle groups but most of the fuel tankers up there run 7 tri-axle groups which gross out at about 170 tonnes.

BTW the engine you can hear is the Mack E9 V8 in the blue & white Titan.

  • @gm16v149 : Ah I hear it now too. But at around 0:45, that's your own truck right?

170Tons is awesome, almost incredible. Over here in Europe there are a few 58Ton combinations (normal limit is 40tons), but they're only allowed on fixed routes, and special training is required for the driver. I must come to Austrailia one day, even if it were only for the trucks!

  • @CreRay Yes that's my truck at 0.45.

The 4 trailer, 22 axle (86 wheels) road trains are the most common roadtrain for Shell & BP fuel in the N.T. They are a B-train + 2 trailers and 2 dollies.

The one in the vid is 2 B-trains joined with 1 dolly, so it's smaller than normal.

The trucks are tri-drive (3 diffs).

  • Awesome vid!!

While the new stuff is great it does pale a little compared to the old Superliner at the end :-)

Also nice that u finished with a local Adelaide Valueliner lol

  • @JamieMcF1967 Yeah, the old Superliners look better but the Titans are a lot more comfortable.

  • Awesome video mate!! Keep'em coming :-D

    Tomas

  • @hosatosa A video every few months is enough for me.

  • @gm16v149 Yeah, it's the same for me too nowdays. :-D I will probably try to make a new one soon..

  • Great video about a great truck maker...Keep them coming!

  • @modemeyes KW and Mack in Australia used to be neck & neck but Mack dropped off a few years ago but they seem to coming back more now.

  • As always an awesome vid from you. Please keep them coming. :)
