Is this the one where afterwards nine showed the pitchmap for the over, and Dizzy's grouping looked like 3 or 4 balls on top of each other, with the wicket ball being half a ball legside of the others? I had it in my head for some reason that Lara was caught behind the wicket on that one but I actually think this may have been it. I remember at one of his peaks Diz was rated 4th or 5th best bowler in the world. The rating system was obviously stuffed with an error factor of 3 or 4. Legend.
How good was dizzy back in the day! Unfortunately, like too many fast bowlers over the years, his best was cut short by bloody injuries. I guess that's the price you pay for being a fast bowler, but at least we can revisit moments like these and remember what their best once looked like.
damn. that evening looks so lovely and pretty. wish i remembered what i was upto during the year of 2000 haha. don't even know. anyways, saw this video a couple months back. thanks for keeping it still here rob. always pleasant to watch gillespie in his prime.
@M4st3rm1nd For sure Ian Healy was no Adam Gilchrist, but he's scored 4 more Test centuries & 4 thousand odd test runs more than you or I ever will ;) He was in the side as a wicketkeeper 1st & foremost. Not as a batsman. He had a pretty ordinary end to his career with the bat though I will admit. His last 12 months, he couldn't buy a run. After scoring a brilliant century in the 1st Ashes test in 1998 he finished with 170 runs from his last 20 innings. Brilliant wicket keeper!
@SouthSwans I always loved his bowling and also later on his batting, what higher order batter wouldnt want a tail ender that could last days without getting out.
@SouthSwans Underrated? Pfft, more like unfortunate. He was unlucky to be dropped after 05 ashes, he is a great player and will be remembered as such.
uploading this whole over brings that delivery into context. just watching that one delivery in the highlights (on youtube) makes you think whether Lara was sleeping.. But it was the previous deliveries that foxed him
sorry mate, mcgrath is easily top five bowlers of all time...dizzy doesn't even make five...he may have had better spells then glenny, but to even slightly suggest dizzy better than big MG is blasphemy....sike....but really, glenn jus pure class !!
@dilkashh Sorry mate, but I said what I said and it is not just me the Australian cricket writers and commentators at the time all held that view. Gillespie was bowling much fuller than Mcgrath and at greater pace moving it both ways. From 1999-2001, including the India tour, I dare say, he was the best bowler in the world. Btw a best bowler list with Donald on top with no Lillee or Ambrose, can't agree with that. Blasphemy !!
haha k k i agree then, but i'll go with lillee over raging bull any day cuz of the former's faster pace over curtly's bounce (which wasn't consistent as much)
1. Allan Donald - white lightening is epitome of pacery
2. Marshall - the demon of west indies pace (i left out holding - praise be him - cuz holding is dif generation kinda)
3. Glenn Mcgrath - of our 2000post generation, glenny has been the man
4. Wasim Akram - the best swing bowler of all time hands fucking down
5. Shane Warne - im not a huge fan of spin, but i would be biased then, therefore, warney - the best spinner around and muttiah can keep chuckin ya lol
@ravishingravi lol i dont think that gillespie was better than mcgrath. he was great yes... but mcgrath is one of the best seamers ever.. which is shown by his incredible wicket tally
Really clever bowling by Dizzy. Such a beautiful action, poetry in motion.

Terribly underrated and one helluva bowler. Anyone who has watched him working out batsmen ball-after-ball has to have him right up there.

Gillespie at his peak. He was better than Mcgrath for this period and by far the best in the world.
