It isn't until I adopted an ex-racer and started looking into what really happens at these tracks. Greyhounds are the most loving breeds of dog. This'sport' should be banned. The pictures are distressing but someone has got to publish and make people aware of the truth. Such a small number of ex-racers are adopted. thousands of dogs/pups are killed before even making it because they were not good enough in the first place. RSPCA will not regulate as Greys are classed as cattle! Please adopt x
These horrific photos were not representative of the dogs at the rescue kennel that I adopted my greyhound from this last weekend. The cases shown hear are breathtaking in there abuse and will take a special kinda person to heal and rehabilitate these dogs but should not dissuade the average person from going to a rescue kennel or from adopting the average greyhound. So far it's as if I adopted a 70 pound house cat, does he ever stop sleeping?

We adopted 2 young racing greyts into our home and now have a greyt raised from puppyhood--he came from a Colorado rancher who used these magnificent hounds to chase coyotes. Intelligent, loyal, stunningly beautiful at a run, they've been family. Our racers eventually died from wounds and treatment during their racing days, but lived joyfully with us for 8-10 years.
I had a ex racer once he was gifted in to battersea by owner/trainer they said he never raced i think different we had him 22 months and he died of a heartattack out on a walk he was aged around 3-5 i hate greyhound racing when i worked at battersea years ago i had a percific bread of dog i liked it was greyhound in my sales block i mainly had greyhounds these are lovely animals all breed of dog have a right to live name and shame the people

Many years ago I worked at a Greyhound Racetrack ! I have witnessed the dogs covered with ticks ! The owners calling there dogs absurd names like bastard and etc. I'am glad that my former Governor ended Greyhound racing in my state ! My hope is that they make Greyhound racing illegal in every state and across abroad ! My thoughts and prays go out to these dogs as they are lovely creatures and adore them more than ever !

Rescuers should receive tax breaks and compensation from breeders for all the heartbreaking work they must do because of the heartless slobs. The people creating these problems need to be stopped!
I share my home with 3 gorgeous greyhounds. The first 2 shared a kennel so I had to rehome both. They were used for racing. The third one was living in an outdoor unheated shed, very underweight, covered in sores and his white coat stained yellow from laying in his own urine. The lady who gave him to me said he wouldn't put on weight no matter how much she fed him. He's the correct weight now, his yellow stains have gone and he has clean duvets to lay on. I love greyhounds so much.
It really breaks my heart to watch those beautiful dogs and how they are maltreated. It makes me so angry, sad and frustrated when people abuse animals. Animals can feel pain, stress, fear etc. just like humans. I really wish and hope that those who do cruelty to animals will be caught and punished and at the end die a slow and very painful death.

Many of the pictures here are actually Spanish galgos (galgo de espanol) and not NGA racing greyhounds. I've been involved with rehoming retired racers for 17 years and got involved in international galgo rescue about 6 years ago. The galgo is used in Spain as a hunting/coursing hound and thousands are inhumanely killed at the end of each hunting season.

I have tried soo many times to adopt a GrayHound, but they put you through so much just to save a poor dog, I finally gave up. Many rescues are making a lot of money off the claim of saving them. I believe people on both sides are responsible for the many killings some would just rather see them dead and used as a cause to fight for rather then in loving homes. (think about it if they had loving homes to go to where would these rescues get money?)

these are unusual and cruel sights that an owner trainer like me hates to see. The sport is not to blame people are. Get the ones that are doing these things just like any cruelty to animals. Dont destroy what a greyhoud loves to do which is chase a simulation hare. You can have pictures of my retired greyhound that had over 80 races for me if you want put them in these videos that show isolated incidences of abuse. All dog breeds suffer abuse, its wrong stop them as well.

If they don't want the greyt all they need to do is make a call. But I belive in the saying "what goes around, comes around!"
