  • Large fantail goldfish are the poop machines of the fish world. I had 4 in my first aquarium. yikes

  • roma 240?

  • how long does the fx5 keep the water clean

  • beeafron - Even I knew they were just in there to build up the Bio's of the tank dude!! As soon as I saw the heater I said "He's building up the Bio's", I hope they record he's pirahnas tearin' you a new one bro!!

  • is your oranda breathing fast?

  • Let's face it, time for you to get tanked up again soon. What else you buying exactly?

  • man its not loud at all i like

  • I know it a tad off subject not being a filter, but where you get your anchor decro it looks pretty badass?

  • @TriskaidekaPunk E-Bay baby! Ebay!

  • @mra12345 but is it a real metal anchor or a resin injected mold? :) n I do love e-bay

  • @mra12345 hi im new to bigger tanks i have a 10gal lol but am upgrading to a 55 gal...what kind of filter should i use? its just going to have 2 oscars in it

  • @Bajaheat 55 gal is too small for 2 oscars who should as adults be 14 inches long each. 75 gal minimum for a single oscar

  • @TriskaidekaPunk Actually always liked the anchor you're right.

  • @TriskaidekaPunk again ebay my friend.

  • nice setup man :)

  • @beeafron the goldfish were only in there to build up bacteria on my new fx5 for my shoal of bad ass piranahs. If you were a hardcore monster fishkeeper like me you'd have known that. Bring your bumhole and they will tear it apart english man.

  • @mra12345 haha

  • OMG, it's awesome!

  • @tralalajkovski and so are you.

  • I have a Fluval FX5 on my 125 gallon. Best filter I have ever owned!

  • how big is your tank?

  • Still loving the fx5 ? I am so ready to just buy one... also in that tank is the backing supposed to look like that or did you use something like seeview and it has just separated from the back of the glass?

  • gold fish>? meh

if i had the space id stock that bitch up with......dammit why goldfish!

  • Nice fish.

  • @mrshinyshoes

    Thanks

  • @mra12345 How quiet is your filter? are you still happy with it?

  • @HansR1985

Pretty quiet, obviously not silent but I had it in my lounge no problem. Any filter would be too loud for a bedroom I think. Still happy with it after a year, never blocked once, buy it!!!!

  • Goldfish need heavier filtration than warmer water tropical fish. All goldies do is eat and poop! The FX5 is a nice system, especially for larger tanks or fish that create a heavier waste load. And I agree, it is nice and quiet.

  • @marlin187 You couldn't be more wrong.

  • marlin187 To much filter for that tank mate..

you can never have too much filtration, I have an fx5 running a 240L. Mind you I have africans so they love me for it.

  • Water still looks kinda cloudy? :/

If I'm gonna pay that much for a filter I want it to look like my goldfish are suspended in mid-air, ya know..?

  • nah its just my crap camera or the lack of powerful lights in the tank. no longer have goldfish in that tank but filter still going strong.

  • @mra12345 you should aqua scape your tank... so much cooler

  • Love My Fluval FX5, and don't worry about "Too much Filter" you can't over filter, besides, it's much les maintainance. Incredibly Quiet too.. Great system..

  • To much filter for that tank mate..

  • flow gets me horny

  • @mra12345 It's not just flow he's talking about. There's natural bacteria in fish tanks that are beneficial for the fish. Now, for goldfish, it might not be a big problem, but for other fish that filter might be a little too powerful.

  • never too big

  • You can never overfilter a tank. But having a filter built for a 500 gallon tank in a 1 gallon is differnent but in this video is ok and he saved himself a lot of time.

  • I just got a brand new fluval 405 for $100 at a going out of business sale. I am now a believer :). Hope to step it up to the FX in the future.

  • Wow... I'm about to buy one for my 150-gallon tank, and love how quiet it is in your video! Couldn't even hear it. :-)

  • I have an FX5, Eheim Pro 3 2080 and 2x Tetratec1200s on a 8ftx2ftx2ft planted aquarium for the last 18months. Eheim and the Fluval are on par noise wise and on reliability. Slightly more output on the FX5 2300 l/h vs 1700 l/h, but the Eheim only uses 30w vas 48w (UK) for the Fluval. Eheim also has a 12l filter media capacity vs 6l for the Fluval. All in all Fluval Fx5 is a great filter.

  • Too dark dude!!!

  • I prefer FX5 filtration system..

There is no such thing overkill filtration, more the better. always.

  • would this be too much for a 350 ltr tank?

  • I just put an FX5 on my 100 gallon a few days ago. The thing is wicked fast and does a great job. I love the fact that they give you an extra valve to purge water with for super fast water changes on large tanks. I had to go to Home Depot. to buy the hose though. (They dont give you the extra one) It purged 25 gallons in 4 minutes for mine. E-Z water change. Glad you like yours.

  • Not to be an ass, but you need to prevent away to stop the water from going over the back and between your back drop ( blue background). Thats happend to me before, if you keep having that problem you can always paint it that blue. Good luck!

  • Hey, nice post! I've heard painting the outside of the back glass either black or dark blue is a good idea...no lift from water getting in between.

  • So toss the white polishing pad? Should I keep the other center pad( blue pad?) or should I toss that too and only use the white ones that wrap around? My set up is pre media ( top tray) blue filter floss with white polishing pad underneath blue pad in middle tray and in the bottom tray I have fluval ceramic rings...

  • yes toss all the pads and you'll have faster flow

  • Dude I just also got a fluval fx5 but for some reason ur water looks like it has more turbulance( waves) then mine? Can I ask u how u stacked ur media?

  • for a start throw the polishing pad (thin white one) in the bin/trash its clogging you up! I have the sponge round the sides, sponge in one tray, ceramic rings in another, plastic balls in one and thats it.

  • you dont really need the heater, goldfish are coldwater fish....would an fx5 be ok on a 55 because i want to get one for my tropical tank

  • even though goldfish are coldwater fish,

a heater is a good idea to keep a consistent temperature.

you just have to find a heater that can be set to a low enough temp for goldfish.

  • Bollocks. A chiller would make sense, but a heater? How cold do you have your house?!

  • my house is at 64 but, the room that my fish are in can get down to 50 (crappy window) on a cold day. so a heater is used (set at 65) to prevent large temp drops.

  • the fx5 is overkill on a 55 gallon. it can filter up to 400 gallons.

a fluval 305 would do ya just fine.

the 405 would be even better.

but, if you want the extra filtration and dont mind the extra cost, then yes a fx5 will be great on a 55 gallon.

  • How much is an FX5? Would it do in a 20Gallon Tank?

  • it would like keep ur tank clean for a crap load haha filters 400 gallons but hey then u dont have to upgrade, and it is like 200 to 400 dollars look for especials loks like a great filter (got the 205)

  • Yeah it don't matter the more filtration the better you don't have to change the media once a month cause all the debris clogs it to quick and what some people do is wash everything off throw everything back in and that will save money to. But yes let time going underneith your tank or above it washing your filters and replacing them. Granted change your carbod every one in a while that what makes your water all shiny and clear looking. The ceramic rings last a long time.

  • @Forrest3663 : goldfish are happy, and spawn in higher temps like 75 deg. They can tolarate cold temps, but will be more active if you maintain a warmer temp, just not too high ;)

  • So how is it working out so far for you since you posted this video? Any problems? I am seriously considering buying an FX5 for a 100 gallon. Is it worth the money? Good performance? I can read blogs all day about it, but I would like to get it straight from an owner/operator of one. Thanks in advance, if you have some feedback for me.

  • Really good, never jams at all or loses flow. Deff worth the purchase cheap from ebay. Great performance much better than tetratech filters I had before. Nice project is two of them in a 600L tank.

  • Thank you! I will definitely make good consideration into getting one. :)

  • Found it on ebay!

    Then you Oscar up! awooooo!

  • Only £130 off ebay with free delivery but can pay up to £250 in a retail shop.

  • how much was the filter ??

  • its 200L so must be about 4ft long?

Heater is for the plec, I use to have silver sharks in it too.

    Temp is 20C

  • nice tank decor. Whats the size of it. Im suprised you have gold fish and a heater?!?
