  • iPad 8??? You mean "i stole this from Jeff Han Pad 8" Take a closer look at the DATE of this video..... This "Minority Report" display was in existence before the idea iPhone was even conceived! Google "Jeff Han on Ted talk" in 2006 and see the reaction of the people when he demo a smaller version of the display.

  • imagine cod on that!

  • ipad 8

  • @hotvico ,.....YA thats great,.. to think we only had books and an IMAGINATION to use,,.... so lame ,... lol

  • That would be cool if sometime in the future they have a computer system like Jarvis from Ironman.

  • Google Maps? :P

Don't get me wrong, huge touch screens surely have their uses for people in specific fields. Interactive strategic map in a military command post, for example. I'm just saying this isn't the technology to replace mouse+keyboard.

  • I want the same at home, at work, at the train station, everywhere!!

  • 一番問題なのは、TVをこんな目の前で見るかどうか…かと。

  • know what be cool? a play-dough-ish control piece that you can sculpture for 3D models instead of using a mouse or a penpad.

  • this a interesting, like an itouch/mac touch pad. nice

  • Honestly, how is that better than a mouse+keyboard?

(And I'm a technology lover, not someone who's afraid of advancement.)

  • I definetely agree. It looks really cool and impressive visually, but I myself asked the very same question that you did. A real downside to that screen as that you really must be within arms length to the actual surface at all times, not always positive! :) /Cheers from Sweden

  • @414gbg : You don't need to use 100% of the available area. Why worry ?

  • @AddictiveDissolve its generally easier, more intuitive and allows multiple people to use it at once. But its not just that, the software is amazing. How many map software can you get that lets you mark up the map and saves it?

  • It looks like a sci-fi movie!

  • super...

  • Amazing!

  • I'm trying to do this at home wit ha projector and a webcam and it seems ok.

  • i seen one of this in sigraph boston in 2007, its just amazing

  • thats awesome...

  • What kind of computer are they using? It looks kinda powerful.

  • yeah i have tv like this, and the software is magicinfo pro. is great.

  • beautiful

  • great technology comes great reponsibilities... it can be used in a wrong way...

  • it's rare that user interface technology can be used in a wrong way. This is only a development in the way you use the computer.. It's not that the computer can actually do more

  • brilliant, hope we see them on every street corner for public access soon. like before im 50

  • This is insane...

  • HA! well played, well played sir PP!.

Your way of hiding the depths of this huge box is well done.

    My compliments to you sir!

  • yawn, you ever stand close to a plasma or lcd? The heat?

You'd be sweating moving, n flailing like that.

This is just eye candy, and besides, were all lazy who wants to stand?

  • we'll have a smaller version :)

  • That's what she said.

  • отличная штука!!!!

где можно её купить? буду благодарен за любую информацию)))

  • wow! technology is evolving really fast...

Imagine the world in 20 years time... everything will work like that :O

  • thats so wicked xD

  • Kids in 20xx will go to school and watch teachers explain things with the use of those things... It's amazing what technology will allow us to do.

  • Great idea, this will replace chalkboards!

  • @hotvico TEACHERS? EXPLAINING? For what, the only thing we need to advance any more is simulate the emotions and we're done :D

  • Give me just one please :D

  • Perceptive Pixel freaking OWN multitouch.

  • Beautifull, Ps. Whats the song name? or the genre

  • Beautiful Strange by Bedrock

  • Can't wait.... oh the toys to come!

  • that sums up my thoughts exactly, almost can't stop drooling

  • imagine the precision and ease you could get with a graphics design program and one of these.

  • oh damm he must exactly know what he,s doing and then the fact that a touch screen could randomly react once touch it.

it,s allready amezing that a tough screen could distinguish temperature vingers from law water etc,,without be confused.

    all in realtime!!!!!!

  • i wonder how much the programs cost for it

  • mint.

  • wont it hurt your eyes to be that close to the screen for a longer periode of time? ...

never the less, very impressive stuff :-)

  • WOW!

  • doesn't this remind you of that movie with Tom Cruise, Minority Report? Man id be on that thing all day

  • wow that is a very powerful system on more levels them one

  • I really want to see something similar happen with the PSeye! hahaha

  • man.. i can see global tech and research going very far with this..

  • Now this is what I'm what I'm talking about. I've got a HD holographic one similar. It's much better than the mouse n' gui screen most people have to use on computers today, but he's much better at operating it than me.

  • where would i get more music like this? oh and i wouldn't put my bigscreen monitor in a wall. i'd build it into a windo or a counter top. something like that. or i'd build it into a desk it self

  • That's so awesome.

  • Looks like a great RSI masterpiece!

I would buy one if I could put it at an angle.

  • awesome! looks like computer from the movies

  • I want one of these - it's almost like Minority Report

  • Great video! Does anybody know the name of the song?

  • "Beautiful Strange"; Bedrock

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • I want to have one in a whole wall of my house to use Photoshop in big screen :D

  • LMFAO yeah so true. Me too XD

  • anyone know what the background music is?

  • njahhh...I get borred from this toy...I buy another one... :D

    :_(

  • isn t this just a touch-screen??:)

  • Yes, but a huge touchscreen with a powerful software. ^^

    Great.

  • at last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That thing must have a processor bigger than nasa's

  • incredible. when do I get one?

  • I NEED TO MAKE ONE!!

  • damn, that's a big iPhone . . .

  • yes, you are right

but it demands one bigger pocket for keeping it. and a battery should have wheels for easy "handling" around :-)

  • Real nice man. I have been building my own Multi touch system at niceminds dot com you should check it out.

  • fantastic, is multi touch a patent of apple?

  • this was created before. apple cannot rule the world.

  • lol man im wont a school bord

  • this is pretty cool, but it would mess up your eyesight big time lol

  • sry i meant is

  • 100000 dollars are the same amount a volkswagen passat costs in norway...

  • impressive...

but to have a panel like this in my home would cost me about...$100,000

  • Wow!

    Interesting.

  • omg i want that shit !!!!!

  • very nice - ;-)

  • It's smart board, with a better graphics program.

    What's the big deal?

  • no big deal... you play with your every day right?

  • smart boards are not multitouch, and theyre slow as shit

  • this isnt a smart board dude. different technology

  • I wonder what kind of pc hardware we need to run this interface.

  • nahh my old pentium 1 can run this! xD

  • anyone think this would be awsome for supreme commander?

  • amazing

    google earth?

  • wow~~~~~,that's biggest iphone~~~!

  • Only that it was around when the iPhone was nothing more than a wet dream.... so the iPhone is more like the tiniest Jeff Han device ;)

  • iphone actually stole this from microsoft research project.they implemented properly.

  • watch?v=-9j_tYP-kzc

  • i would go broke for one... please tell me where i can get one (foaming at the mouth)!!!

  • Does anyone know the artist/album/title for this music???

  • bedrock: beautiful strange

    Album: Layered sounds 1

  • way anasının amcıqını ısırim bea neler warmış böle:D

  • Will someone please tell me the name of the music in the background. I just love it. Please...

  • I want to know the music as well.

  • Found it. Bedrock - Beautiful Strange

  • Thanks for this!

  • fantástico!!

  • I want whatever that was.

  • semplicemente fantastico

  • Wow!

  • Gotta love technology!!

  • You can't beat this display, plus m..the music is good...I wish

i could remember what 'twas :) That aside, this kinda future is a little scary in the sense" my usual method of control may disappear: the mouse and keyboard! In that light scary... But in light of being happy form the future, awesome. and also, in the AI movie, the Will Smitho could still order a pair of converse from online, so, its all good....the 'old' methods will still be available! :)

  • omg, i SO want to photoshop with this technique O_o

  • i think i saw a thing for this quite some time ago. but i still want one! its awesome and would make computers so much funner then it already is

  • cool stuffs maybe it can replace monitors next time.

  • The future is now.

  • Wow...

  • Wow....

  • Wow.....

  • Check out "TED: The Documentary Film"

    TEDfilm(dot)com

TED Conference - Brilliant Minds sharing Bold Ideas

  • i wrote a guide on how to make a multitouch display as well, it can be found on multitouch dot nl

  • Seems like a nice idea. I imagine that in the future 2 ver of this would be available: surface and on a stand. One problem is gaming, but maybe you'd have the option to use gaming mice and keyboard like things for that.

  • I saw a segment on Daily Planet (a Descovery Channel show) where a guy made this giant spere to run inside. It's kind of like a your in the little mouse ball under the old kind of mice. It had sensors to track which way he was running and everything. It was awesome. he was using it to play a game.

  • looks, its the Minority Report lolz

  • Maybe a little more arm movement wouldn't be such a bad thing for most Americans. We could all use a little more exercise.

  • lol! Maybe they'll have a full-body computer in the future. We can run, walk and just move in a virtual computer room! With 3D holograms! Virtual sports! Virtual first-person shooters! Etc. :D

Video games that get us into shape, and having fun at the same time! That's THE BEST exercise!

  • omgs will it run on teh lunix?!

  • To bad only the military can get them right now, at least i think so.

  • haha Microsoft, as always, cloning

  • Yep, this was the first thought.. But they say that men from Perceptive works on MS Surface

  • Very nice!

  • IS THE MINORITY REPORT TECNOLOGY!! :D

  • yeah lol its a movie made true, i hope the next is star wars ^^

  • That looks pretty cool

  • At the sides of this layer there are several LED lights which cant be seen by the user. The light of the leds goes on reflecting the layer surface ans some sensors track them. When you put a finger at the screen, the light from the LEDs react different and a very simple cross calculation is necessary to map where the finger is. Its Cheap and its very functional as you can see. Brilliant work, the man is a genius.

  • This technology is the work o Jeff Han, professor and researcher of New York University at the moment he had this idea. The difference between this technology which was first demonstrated at 2006 TED in a much smaller screen is that it is very cheap. In this particular video there´s no prjector, the screen is actually that LG giant plasma i think. But anyways, this technoloy is not about the screen but in a thin transparent layer between the screen and the fingers.

  • That's amazing I want one :D

  • How could we game and watch porn? 2 very important things.

  • Well put. :D

  • very nice question

  • im not that impressed. find a way to surpress and make more efficiency of memory. thats the problem of today not to have a sub for a keyboard and mouse

  • When is coming out? We want this now and we are ready to buy it now.

  • I never even imagined something like this would come. but its true, this seems to be the logical next step in computing interfaces. to me it seems like, because of the sensitivity of the screen, it would be difficult not to resize something by accident, or move somethign by accident, but then i suppose they already thought of that XP. anyways. great vid showing the power of todays technology. props to whom ever can come out with the first of these in pc form. (im guessing apple)

  • sweeeet

  • is it running on linux?

  • bellissimo...

  • It's a rear projection display. That's why they have to film in the dark. I could see this taking off once they figure out how to get the multi-touch interface to work on a LCD touch screen. Apple has the technology with the new Iphone, so I'm sure it won't be long before we start hearing about this more often. It's amazing

  • why are the dumbest people the most likely to post a comment? i guess this is a "if a tree falls..." kind of question on the internet... or maybe most people are dumb?

  • uhmm.... google earth and some fancy touch screen...

  • isn't a mouse much easier than using both your arms?

  • Two mouses at once would be useful, I've always thought...

  • Mind-blowingly awesome! But unfortunately it'll be ages before we see anything like htis. Most people tend to politely ignore hte fact that it requires a lot of room, a screen that sharp and that size these days (even disregarding touch screen) is extremely expensive. and the processor required. Eg the part where he has dozens of videos running at the same time.

  • wrong wrong wrong.... this is actually very feasible. You just need a projector, some 1/4" clear acrylic, some IR LEDs and a camera without an IR filter and you can make your own.

  • Too sharp for projector. The screen seems to be a liquid crystal/touch screen display. And the information input from the fingers is dodgy at best for your contraption. If it was as easy as you suggest to DIY, let alone manufacture, we'll be seeing this all over the place. Something's obviously not sitting right.

  • Sorry to tell you but this is not a 'dodgy contraption' as you appear to suggest. This is a real interface and will be pretty widely available in the near future. This has been demonstrated at TED as well as other places. It is a multi-touch sensitive screen which even works on pressure sensitivity

  • I was referring to the DIY contraption that dystryytb was talking about. NOT the one seen in the video which we all agree is amazing.

  • Awesome!

  • the screen must be sharp

  • What's the name of the song playing in the background?

  • "Beautiful Strange"; Bedrock

  • What an efficient interface!

  • When this screen will be in our homes, the user should wash his hands beforehand yet (or wife not very happy afterwards ... :()

  • hahha that's better than vista

  • Your video's advertised.. IN THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD!!! D8

That was such an awesome video 8D I want one!!

  • A Korean immigrant Jeff Han did the best i suppose. This revolutionary touch screen technology will administer to human IT life!

  • The BEST!

  • i don't like this

    i am not robot

  • yeah your just an idiot.

  • linux is power good technology's

  • Truly amazing. I can see this technology being available on the next iMac, now Apple has purchased it for the iPhone.

  • I'd imagine you can sit down with this too.

  • No, no chairs aloud. Only people with acute back problems have ever laid eyes on this thing! ;-J

  • I want one of this for my Linux :D.

  • Nebuchadnezzar you have authorization to dock

  • Why would I want to stand in front of a screen all day, having to flail my arms and hands about, when I can sit, here, in my comfortable chair and perform all the same functions at similar speeds with just a flick of the wrist and the patter of the keyboard? The amount of effort and energy, and discomfort of standing hours at a time seems to make this technology more gadgety than useful. As a professional user, I can't really see people utilizing this interface for 7 hours out of a workday.

  • And here's your proof that corporations kill souls. For once in your life, dream, man! Who cares about practicality out of a concept model? That's why it's a concept in the first place.

  • who says its for workdays fool. Think, if this can be implemented on the go, with satellite internet, things like this could be used during war times. Think about how easy a conference would be for business. Its not for ever dude at the desk, but maybe one room, something like this has millions of possibilities

  • Clearly, this can be used in conjunction with a keyboard and mouse, and on a smaller screen. So you won't lose your comfortable chair, and your day will be even easier. Sheesh.

  • Well, how long until this stuff becomes a houshold product?
