The Lee Morgan Sextet (1956) plays that second chorus melody, so does Benny Golson, further on in his own interpretation. Anita is amazing, how she can make this tricky line sing, and the words sound like a conversation.
i'm not crazy about anita o'day's voice and ornemental scatting (i loved her when i was 18), but this version of her idol, billie holiday's i cover the waterfront is ... sublime ... hope you like it, pierrino
She really twirls this one around!! And "The Diva Series" CD is a wonderful collection of her tunes...definitely worht it. Thanks for posting!

Anita's second chorus, is that vocalese on an improvised chorus? By Benny Golson, or somebody else? She's doing it fabulous.

@OrganGrinderLola I don't think so, it's the same on Art Blakey's recording and was on sheet music. .

@OrganGrinderLola Yes, Bryt25's right — that section is called the "shout chorus" and is usually included in versions of this great tune.

I knew and dug Anita. Real jazz singer, not a commercial hack as most of them, even Peggy.
