  • Starvation is not proof of artistic integrity.

  • I think it is sad that any music group would whore out their most famous songs inorder to stuff another buck in their pocket. Eventhough the Kingston Trio sound was entertaining, what was still applies; they were not folk singers as their songs, like these 7up songs, lacked a real conviction as The weavers or Pete Segar's songs did...and they payed for it latter. Gaurd could see the writting on the wall and was the smarter for leaving in 1961.for $300,000 dollars+ Royalties.

  • Wow - a sexy lady descending from a hook in the sky and then hands me a drink -- is that what heaven is like?

  • These are very fun! Thanks for posting.

  • No blacks in the subway at all.

  • @totoytype So what?

  • what the hell commercials are no longer the same now, this is sure.

Who would turn off the tv or be pissed of at the cinema with commercials like this one?

  • Pure genius, commensurate with their impeccable legacy. Dave Guard and Nick Reynolds are both dearly missed.

  • I'm showing my age buit Ir emember seeing tehse commercials when tehy were new.

I first heard the Trio in 1957 when they nhad their first hit It Takes A Worried Man or Tom Dooley.....I no longer remember which was first.

I was a fan right up until they disbanded in 1967, saw the reunion group in 1981. I was still doing some of their songs when I was gigging in the mid 90's.

  • Same here. Plus I had the 7-Up 45 RPM record promo with a picture sleeve of the Kingston Trio being hoisted up on a palate of 7-Up cases. I wonder where I lost that at?

  • Yes, they were simply the best of their time and still sound fresh. This was the Guard Trio, and the Stewart version were equally great!

  • 7-Up thought the Trio was the best way to sell their product (and reach that all-important "teen audience") during 1959-'60. Three years later, The Limeliters were singing the praises of Coca-Cola {"Things Go Better With Coke"}.

  • Holy freakin crap this is amazing

  • Hopefully Charlie's wife went down to the Sculley's square station every day a quarter past two and through the open window she's hand Charlie a 7-up as the train went rumbling through.

  • I couldn't never understand why she didn't just hand him a NICKEL.

  • It's because she didn't really WANT him to get off that train!

  • They are funnier than the Monkees.

  • What a treat. I fell in live with the Trio a short 5 years ago and have searched the web for everything I could find. I thought I had seen everything, but this one is totally new to me!!!! I love it. I am going to send it to Dave Guard's son, Tom,in the unlikely event he has never seen it. Thank you so much for sharing this treasure.

  • Thank you!

    I loved it!!

  • This is fun stuff! I love The Kingston Trio and have heard a few of their old radio spots for 7-Up so I loved seeing this TV ad for the first time. Sure, it's a bit corny, but it beats the hell out of all these rock and Hip-Hop stars with their 'attitude' today. Who needs them? This is great. Thanks for posting this, seansvoice!

  • My uncle Kelly (Thordsen) was a character struggling to feed his family about that time and he played the conductor on the MTA commercial. There was also another commercial set on a ship where he played a pirate or something like that. I'd love to see a copy of that one if it is available.

  • NO the Trio is supposed to be moe respectable than this where is there artistic intergity I love them still but I'm a little dissapointed they still kick asses across the land

  • Priceless!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Pre-MTV!!!

  • What a riot! I was cracking up! Great to see these. Sorry someone had to drop an 'F' bomb here- maybe do away with the comments? Keep on posting this great stuff with Dave Guard!

  • thanks for the intelligent input...where's your Phi Beta Kappa key from? It's a TV commercial, you dolt. Is the "F" word really necessary?
