good question it is pathetic that they are not there rick nielsen is one of the greatest pop song writers of all time robin zander is in a class by himself as singers go a great musical influence on me as a young man ..tom petersson , what can you say the man invented the 12 string bass..enough said..and bun well he is the most underatted drummer of all time ..he rocks...the new album is incredible maybe these guys will finally get their do..long live cheap trick!
@zuck21- Perfectly said. Thanks! It's true that Rick, Robin & Tom are Class musicians by themsevles. I would like to add Bun E's own quality as an underrated drummer. Bun E understand's his musical equipment and if you guys noticed, he can make the the snare, the small & big tom-toms, the bass drum and his cymbals come alive by making them sound like they're supposed to. (Listen to the FLAME's studio version & hear the true sound of a snare drum). CT is a bunch of musical geniuses in one!

Saw Cheap Trick in '75 opened for Rainbow....in '78 opened for Foghat...saw them play at Indre Studios in Philly....and saw them at The Village...a local bar in Lancaster PA.
True story: I met my future husband because I thought I saw him at a Cheap Trick concert (Billy Bob's, Fort Worth Texas, 2003). I saw his dead ringer, anyway. We worked at the same company. I emailed him to find out if it was he. It wasn't, but we hit it off, started dating, and yes, eventually went to see Cheap Trick in concert together.
One of the best rock bands ever. This song is unbelievable! Robin Zander's exclusion from Rolling Stone magazine's "100 Greatest Voices in Music" issue was utterly inexcusable.
I am going to see them in Elgin Il on 12/12 at the Cultural arts Center. It is has about 1000 seats. Last time I saw them was at UW:Whitewater in '75. Only thing I remember was some great Beatles covers...I will remember everything next month...I am pumped.
Any song by Cheap Trick during this era is no miss!!!!!!!!!! They were at their height. Mixed with a great producer, Tom Werman, who understood them and got some of the best music ever. My kids are 8 and 12, bass and guitar player, and rock out to Cheap Trick. Time comes and goes. Great melody, playing, and songs do not change. Fuck the radio and the Britney Spears, rap, excusem me while I puke artists. Go with me here. Any Cheap Trick fans out there who do not love the triumvirat.
I grew up in Rockford, IL and can honestly say that one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had was finding out that I'm distantly related to Rick Nielsen! No, I've never met him at a family reunion or anything. I understand that I'm related to him through marriage - one of my Grandma's relatives is married to someone in Nielsen's family. The relationship may not be close, but it's there. And as a longtime Cheap Trick fan, I just love it!
Robin is probably close to 60 and looks like hes in his 30s. Probably in the top 5 rock singers of all time. One of the few who sound better live than on the record and he has been doing it for over 30 yrs. If you have never seen them live, go! Met Robin and Rick a couple of times and they are real down to earth nice midwestern guys. Just cant say enough good things about this band. Amazing.
Wow, does that bring back memories. I was about 13 when Cheap Trick was huge, and I could write out their logo -- with all the little typographical glitches -- perfectly by memory. My parents had a fit when I got a T-shirt that said Cheap Trick on it, as they felt I was saying I was a cheap whore. I had a huge crush on Robin and Tom... Now I'm getting old and Robin is fat and gross (gee, I am too!). Time is cruel.
Robin is FAT & GROSS??!! My friend you obviously haven't Trick lately. RZ FAT & GROSS??!! Hardly. He still looks and sounds great for his age. Trick is still playing around 100 gigs a year. When you play that much, getting rusty and "fat" isn't part of the mix. Go see'em this summer with Journey and Heart. They still can outplay bands half their age. Don't believe me, go see them. I am on 25 July 08 in San Antonio Texas. And yes I am READY TO ROCK!!
Fat and Gross? Time is cruel? What are you talking about? Maybe for some, but not Robin Zander. Last recent video I saw he was wearing a sleevless Cheap Trick shirt and looking pretty HOT! Remember, these guys have been touring since 1974. Let's give them credit where its deserved.
but really we get better and better- so that we go so many light years beyond in so many ways- its really good to have musical friends to share the connection. As far as looks, the ones that love us still lust for our love, and that's what counts. I know you know, i'm just reminding you. Children really are fascists, and if they grow up still being fascists- then there is alot of work to do!
In my opinion culture, etiquette, and charm is fascism.grow
One of their strongest tracks and kind of a swan song to the classic Cheap Trick era -got Dream Police for X-mas when I was a kid--15 years later I rediscovered it in a box in the basement-musty but still playable --this song became my favorite.
i didnt understand how some of thier 80's stuff was totally overlooked. I liked Standing on the Edge as much as I did Dream Police. But thats just me.
YES.........the best one of their ENTIRE career (besides, of course, At Budokan). Both albums came out right before their big career slump in the 80's.
Cheap Trick The best thing to ever come out of Illinois. Wanna thank my sister for letting me "scratch the vinyl" when I was a kid in the 70's. She turned me on to some great music Cheap Trick was a great part of that experience.
I just saw them at the Hollywood Bowl this past Saturday play the Sergent Pepper album...and Wow!...They were great! The last time I saw them was 'back in the day' at the Forum, New Year's Eve-Los Angeles. Some feelings never die---couldn't take my eyes off of Robin-no matter what he was doing! *sigh*
I agree mc2NY, I have been listening to the band from the start and they deserve to be in the Hall Of Fame. They rock and I hope they keep rockin for along time !!!!!!

Awesome song. Dream Police is probably the best Cheap Trick album. And the Beatlesque sound of this album is a stroke of genius on the part of Cheap Trick.
From the only place on Earth, California that could concoct such brilliant Pop Rock, Cheep Trick combines simplistic sounding melodies with incredibly intricate song writing skills. WOW!
That is a mystery. I've seen CT more live than any other band, and by a long shot... They define what rock' n roll is period. ZZ Top and Cheap Trick are the coolest guys in rock music...
once again my boys from rockford are snubbed ..no offense to rem but the trick was here first..a trememdously influencial band ..rick neilsen is an incredible writer and musician.and robin well he is the shiznick!!!one of my true idols ..a great influence on me as a singer
Saw these guys when I was about 14. Nearly killed myself climbing over a crowd barrier to grab one of Rick's picks. thanks for posting, I though I'd seen all their videos. i was wrong.
well, yes and no... Rick is the root of the band, but Robin's voice compliments it... when CHEAP TRICK plays, the world needs to listen... CHEAP TRICK ROCKS !!!!
You can't vote on the HOF, unfortunaley. It's a closed, tight-knit community on industry people, who are totally out of touch with their constituents. The HOF is all record label politics and money.
Their new album isn't "Dream Police" but it's not bad! It's called "Rockford". What's weird is they have a track on it called "Oh Claire" (title of outro of Heaven Tonight), and a track called Come On Come On Come On ("In Color" Come On Come On)but they are totally different songs! Hope the boys aren't running out of song titles! LOL
The last 30 or so seconds of this song are sublime. Read once where Peter Gabriel called it the most perfect pop song he every heard.

A very good moment in the career of CHEAP TRICK.
"Way of the World" is a good song.

Thank you for posting this.

Cheap Trick is an extremely under-appreciated band. To be together this long says one thing; brothers. They are this old fart's favorite band.

Saw these guys when I was about 14. Nearly killed myself climbing over a crowd barrier to grab one of Rick's picks. thanks for posting, I though I'd seen all their videos. i was wrong.

I saw them on the Dream Police Tour, one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Rick may *act* like a dork but he's such an excellent guitarist its sick...Cheap Trick just generally rules...

Yeah, I know...thanks, that's why I put quotation marks around "The Judge".

Rick flipping off Rick.
That sounds a hardcore punk band.

HA HA! I never noticed Rick giving "The Judge" the one-fingered salute before. Priceless.

well, yes and no... Rick is the root of the band, but Robin's voice compliments it... when CHEAP TRICK plays, the world needs to listen... CHEAP TRICK ROCKS !!!!

rick neilsen acts like such a dork, but then again the band would be nothing without him.

Cheap Trick IS Rick Nielsen!! He is the "Spirit" of the band!!

They should have ALREADY been in the rock n roll hall of fame!!! Anyone know where or how we can vote? Or IF we can vote?
djfly2006 5 years ago
You can't vote on the HOF, unfortunaley. It's a closed, tight-knit community on industry people, who are totally out of touch with their constituents. The HOF is all record label politics and money.

Their new album isn't "Dream Police" but it's not bad! It's called "Rockford". What's weird is they have a track on it called "Oh Claire" (title of outro of Heaven Tonight), and a track called Come On Come On Come On ("In Color" Come On Come On)but they are totally different songs! Hope the boys aren't running out of song titles! LOL
