They changed their ages to 10 in the English translation to suit the target audience better.
So as far as the manga and Jap version of the anime are concerned, its not unreasonable to think Ash and Misty could have started a relationship at 14.

When the original creator of pokemon died thats when things started to get really bad. thats when misty left and ever since i think the new creator tries to hard to pair ash up with may/dawn. truth is though you cant replace misty becuase you cant replace the old creator. its jsut not the same. the new pokemon (and especially female charectors) are awful. ash and misty forever!

I SO totally agree with you! I've been watching pokemon since I was 8 and I stopped watching about 5 or 6 years ago when they kick misty out of the main trio! I'm 17 nearing the age of 18 and I'm still waiting for Misty to come back, PERMANENTLY, with ASH!
GOD I mean like, they're both 16 by now... WHEN are they gonna CONFESS! It's so obvious they like (maybe love) each other! especially how Ash keeps on mentioning Misty to both May and Dawn, and about their adventures together!
