It's hard to fathom that every thing in the solar system that isn't a part of the sun accounts for less than 1% of the mass in the solar system and the other 99.86% IS the sun. The magnetic field of the earth doesn't protect us from the charged particles since the particles already harmlessly enter the atmosphere at the northern and southern lights.

If you were talking about the solar flares themselves...they are cause from the release of magnetic energy, so in a sense it is an electrical phenomenon. Nuclear is not the only thing that has enough energy to power the sun. An electrical circuit flowing through the sun as an anode is to an electron tube makes more sense to me. The Solar Corona destroys the nuclear theory as well as sun spots! They make absolutely no sense whatsoever in the nuclear model.
@i7887 I am still going through it skeptical of course. Astronomy will always remain theoretical because we are unable to touch it or move around in it to set up experiments that would produce some real data. Some of his data is still unattainable and arguments are based on mathematics that are still theoretical. We just don't know enough yet.

we think of our sun as being powerful, but there are things in our universe which produce energy far beyond human comprehension. a gamma ray gives off more energy in one second than our sun will produce in its 10 billion year lifecycle. and they are but a fraction of a fraction of the energy of the objects which brought them into exixtence.

@AC130EMPYREAL yeah ligh takes time to travel,but the time of when something happened depends on distance.
Our Sun is 8 light minutes away from Earth,which means that that happened 8 minutes before we see it.The same way if we were watching a star 2 light years away,then what we would see would be what happened 2 years ago. :)

@KevinR242 Nuclear is the only thing that has enough energy to power the sun. If you were talking about the solar flares themselves...they are cause from the release of magnetic energy, so in a sense it is an electrical phenomenon. We have not turned a blind eye towards it, we already know the answer.

@i7887 OK The release of Magnetic energy is Electric! Therefore there must be currents flowing. My point you cant have one without the other. Nuclear is not the only thing that has enough energy to power the sun. An electrical circuit flowing through the sun as an anode is to an electron tube makes more sense to me. The Solar Corona destroys the nuclear theory as well as sun spots! They make absolutely no sense whatsoever in the nuclear model.

@i7887 I am still going through it skeptical of course. Astronomy will always remain theoretical because we are unable to touch it or move around in it to set up experiments that would produce some real data. Some of his data is still unattainable and arguments are based on mathematics that are still theoretical. We just don't know enough yet.

It seems to me to be an amazing thing - considering that a hydrogen bomb the size of a shopping basket would destroy a city the size of London entirely,yet the size of the thermo-nuclear reactor at the centre of the sun is twice the size of Jupiter. It is staggering !

flares happen due to magnetic storms on the surface. gotta remember the sun is held together by two forces explosive pressure, and its own immense gravity. take one away and you either get a nova or a black hole. sometimes that balance fluctuates causing bright pulses.
