You're very close. My metal sensibilities want to go with the rock drumming. My sense of melody go with the seven notes that are repeated. But you've got to break out of the box that you've set up. This can be achieved in a jamming session where variations of the seven notes can be found. Introduce the piece with the seven notes, explore the improvisations, and repeat the seven note phrases as needed.
If I was a musician, I would certainly follow your advice...but this piece was composed by ear and with the aid of a sequencer...what if you sent me your own version of the piece? :-)

Its interesting, but I don't know if Philip Glass ever considered repeating seven notes over and over again music, lol
