It is the other possible site of the crucifixion and burial of Christ. What these people are doing with those candles can be done with any candle. Your hands can withstand the heat of the fire for a brief amount of time if you don't stop moving your hands like some people are doing in this video.

Well, I'm not there to discuss the miracle of self igniting. I have visited the same place in february 08 and there were two candles burning inside on the Angel's stone. Well, I didn't have the chance to examine them but I really can say that the burning temperature of this material is much lower. I could hold the hand over the flame for 4-5 secs before feeling any pain. Perhaps the Church is keeping the secret of this material because it doesn't want to be defeated like in the rennaisance.
A friend of mine met a monk from Syria who read the prayers prior to the appearance of the fire. He said the rock starts to glow blue and then the candle lights. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes, and sometimes it takes an hour or more.

The white phosphorous theory is old. It fails to explain why the flame doesn't burn, and it fails to explain how people bring their own candles that still light spontaneously. I have yet to see both of those refuted.

Just because God Himself chose the orthodox Church to be blessed with the Holy Fire each year, it doesn't mean that the Orthodox is confirmed to be the true Faith by God. It just shows that God chooses the Orthodox faith alone for this special occasion...and the Latin church is not the one to hold this special title/ritual. So please just leave it at that. God makes these discretion, but does not change the fact that Saint Peter is head.

What a farce. I went there last week, and I will never go back again. The Greek Orthodox control access to both the site of the nativity and the tomb of Jesus, and they run both sites like an exclusive Hollywood club. If they happen to be having mass when you show up you are shit outta luck. And the priests and bouncers are there throwing their weight around, barking at the faithful. It is the other possible site of the crucifixion and burial of Christ. No one really knows where it happened, but at this location, they treat God's people and God's word with significantly more respect.They manage to let everyone see the tomb without having to bark at anyone, and all in a beutiful setting.

What these people are doing with those candles can be done with any candle. Your hands can withstand the heat of the fire for a brief amount of time if you don't stop moving your hands like some people are doing in this video.
If they really want to convince people that the "Holy Fire" is not hot, they should stick those candles right upto their face and rub their eyeballs with them. Then I would believe.

The crazy thing about this is the fact that the pope is searched by israel police before entering. The pope says a special prayer passed on to him and something amazing happens. They say a haze appears over the stone believed to be where Jesus was layed and a fire in a pillar is formed. The pope then lights it and passes onto the Armenians & the Coptic Orthodox. People have amazing photos of fire outside at times over the believers. The Fire does not burn the skin/hair.

He had a long face, with a long chin/beard, long brown hair, very tall/strong, I just knew it was Him. I could not say anything, I was just looking at Him. I could feel His Spirit, His goodness and His power. Holy of holiness, Blessed is His name and the Father, king of the universe. Amen

Despite not being crazy about holy fire, I respect that many non-Christian witnesses (first the Muslim Turks, now the Jewish Israelis) have born testimony to it.

Well, I'm not there to discuss the miracle of self igniting. I have visited the same place in february 08 and there were two candles burning inside on the Angel's stone. Well, I didn't have the chance to examine them but I really can say that the burning temperature of this material is much lower. I could hold the hand over the flame for 4-5 secs before feeling any pain. Perhaps the Church is keeping the secret of this material because it doesn't want to be defeated like in the rennaisance.

A friend of mine met a monk from Syria who read the prayers prior to the appearance of the fire. He said the rock starts to glow blue and then the candle lights. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes, and sometimes it takes an hour or more.

And yes those chemicals did exist.
The priest has just to dip in the candles and after some time they will self ignite.He could also hide the chemicals in a ring.
They even explained that in a greek tv show......

The white phosphorous theory is old. It fails to explain why the flame doesn't burn, and it fails to explain how people bring their own candles that still light spontaneously. I have yet to see both of those refuted.
Besides, white phosphorous is toxic, especially when in a room filled with a few hundred people. Why don't scientists just take one of the patriarch's candles and examine it for white phosphorous?

I think that is similar to the Blessing of Fire in my Catholic background... but there is no sudden appearance, it burns and it is normal fire... but we see Christ in that light as it is blessed and it represents the light which dispels the darkness of sin.
I think some orthodox will agree.
