Yes, you can use canvas, also it was 300lb watercolor paper, I guess you could also use cardbord. I have never tried it. You can put an acrylic varnish over it. the grape leaves, were they organic or faux? I love the soft charcoal application..so much easier than some other ways I have seen to bring out definition....very interesting thanks so much for sharing.
