My 2001 Dodge Dakota Truck engine warning light comes on. I checked engine oil(good) water (good) 5 speed(no Trany oil) and all gauges look good.Temp gauge is good/oil pressure gauge is good.
Could be anything, have the codes read for free at autozone and look online for what the code means and how to fix it. You should be able to download a service manual for you car which will have all the "definitions" for the code.
if you have the check engine light on, and you take it to mechanic, he will break your car and lie to you and charge you for lots of unnecessary work. Just wait and see if the car breaks down. Usually the light means nothing. Half the cars I've seen have those lights on forever and it means nothing.
It always means something (emissions controll sensor) , its just not a huge problem with the car unless the light is flashing constantly wich means raw fuel is geting to the Cat
The hand-brake like typically comes on when you put the hand-brake on, just to show it's working. When you're driving along it shouldn't be on. Though this is for cars in the UK, it might be different elsewhere :)
or just buy an old chrysler. it tells you what each light means

To check your OWN code......
Turn your ignition switch to ON-OFF-ON-OFF_ON in that order. The CODE will be in your Trip milage display! Cool huh?
