Oustanding as Shirely Verrett's version is, I still have to come back to this and it always leaves me frantic! Everything aboutu it is perfection - the ominous low passages and blazing declamations. All of it sung with the utmost musical accuracy and dramatic understanding. I am so glad I never saw/heard her live and in her prime - I would have died!
Wonderful, but I think I prefer her earlier live recording from 1952. Thanks for the post though.
