  • I feel you Kimmay, I moved out a MONTH before my 18th birthday. Had to get out, and I am still on my own supporting myself 100%. I may work 7 days a week and class at night but Im still doing it! These videos are so helpful!! I am 23 btw! Turning 24 in 2 months!

  • @ the minimum wage question, it varies from state to state which is why it seems to not have gone up. The poster was prolly in a diff state from kimmaytube.

  • Thank you so much for this video series!!! I'm in a bad case I think.. I actually let my mom get a credit card in my name.. I think her & my stepdad were having problems..house payments, I said yes & I wish I would have said no.. I'm 25 now this was like 2 or 3 years ago..and now I have to pay that card off.. I can't afford it. I have bill CAR PAYMENT. So I stop paying on it. I say that my car & car insur. is more important, but I think about the future.

  • I am so guilty of not communicating with my car people...bad thing.

  • Thanks kimmay, i am so glad you did this. I remember growing up, and if you ask your parents how much they made or, how they do there finances. That was like an abomination. You would have gotten cussed out from a to z. But being a mother of 2 little girls i know i will definetly will be talking to them about there finances. i do not want them to have the same problems i did. Plus when i was 12 my mom opened a cable tv acct in my name. Which started me out with bad credit. im good nowthough

  • Ok im 21a college student and live at home. I also work part time making 371 every two weeks. I HAVE to give my mom 150 out of that plus pay my phone bill and transportation for school. I want to save my money but i find it hard right now, and i see the problem as my mother taking a good amount of my money. How would i explain to her that i want to start saving, and that means giving her less money? Thank you

  • the solo backpacking segment of this video was the most inspirational part for me! you travelled solo and had a blast, God bless you! now, where did i put my passport ;-]

  • i work freelance in the film industry and was lucky enough to have a consistent job the last 1.5 years. while i have made bad financial decisions in the past, i've been making a very conscious and consistent effort to be on a better path. i recently found out that i will be out of work soon. since i've been keeping my bills pretty low, rebuilding my credit and saving, i'm not that scared about being briefly unemployed. not moving out has also helped.

  • i couldnt agree more about not moving out. i am 25 and still live at home with my mom. i used to beat myself up about it because many of my friends live on their own. but either they don't like where they live, their bills are piling up or they're getting paid much better than i so they can handle it.

  • love this!

  • 9856 INBOX MESSAGES?!

I'm so sorry I emailed you about my pathetic hair. T_T

  • LOL LOL LOL

  • I enjoy watching your videos I am 19. A friend of mine gave me your link and I am glad I check it out. Your financial advices are sooo clear for me to understand. You wonderful, keep it up :)

  • Although you're not a financial advisor I'd say you'll make a wonderful financial advisor.

  • I am 22, I have an apartment with my boyfriend but his parents are paying the bills it makes me feel like I can't provide for myself. I have been unemployed for six months and have 6,000 in student loans but not in school, 500 in cell phone debt and my credit cards are paid I can't go back to school until I get out of default HELP! I have been looking for a job but its hard.

  • @AJJ517 Join the military.

  • I was getting paid 5.15/hr in 2007 in alabama.

  • i am now 20, a college student, and employee at jamba juice. i have been working since i was 17. i really regret not saving any money from those years. also i feel that i have to educate myself on certain financial issues. there was a period when i signed up for multiple credit cards and racked up high amounts. i was fortunate to pay the bills off and now am somewhat more responsible with spending and using credit cards.

  • You are absolutely correct! I am in my early 40s and I wish I have known more about life and financial situation. You have inspired me soooooo much that each day I see myself totally different. May God continue bless you.

  • I don't want a car but i do like shopping, going to the movies, and eating out. I also want to get a YMCA gym membership. i don't think i should use my whole first pay check to pay the retail card off though. every week or whenever i get a paycheck, i will pay a certain percentage off the retail card.

  • Yep, worked all summer. Paid for the plane ticket and left for college. Yep, mom opened up two credit cards in my name but she pays on time thank god..

  • Man...you sound like my dad!!! Except he never had credit problems. My problem is...I HAVE NO CREDIT!!! I am so terrified of credit cards that I pay for everything in cash or on my debit card.

I have a question: I am a 21 year old college student. Do you think it would be wise to buy my textbooks on a credit card, and then pay off the entire cost of the books the next month as a way to build credit?

  • @darkchocolate1589

LOL @ me souding like your dad. I'm going to take that as a compliment, okay?

    :-D

To answer your question: *IF* you have the cash to pay the credit card balance *completey* off when the bill comes, I say go for it. Contrary to popular belief, credit cards are not the devil. You just have to use them wisely.

When I say *wisely* I mean, never pay finance charges by paying it off when the bill is due. You need to build credit history. Gotta start somewhere! :-)

  • Thank you so much! You were of great help and you are one of the most beautiful women I've ever come across....without the $500 hair, $35 nails, and overly done makeup! lol. You're beautiful!

  • Credit cards are like playing with snakes...your bound to get bit

  • Great, great series. Please continue on...

  • Please!!!!!!!!!!!!! Continue this series!!!!!! Please!!!!! I am learning so much!!! If you know anything about investing, 401k, etc.... I would love to receive your advice and how you fixed that bad credit!!! Thx in advance

  • Excellent!

  • Kimmy.I wish I could have heard this advice about a year ago. Im a 20 year old college student and I live on my own. Not even including the loans and debt that I acquired from being a student unable to receive free money grants, I had to learn the hard way about credit cards and credit. I still struggle today because of my first credit card at 18 (that I charged it up and didn't have a job) Your advice was a gift and something I don't get from my parents often or until its too late. 5 STARS!!!

  • I'm a victim of child identity theft...its a hard, long road.

  • lol!!! I adore you so much...thank you for this advice. Im really ignorant regarding the logistics of credit...thats because im a 20yr old in college and in this recession, i cant get any! But once again, thanks so much =) Keep it up. (BTW, u have a very pretty smile!)

  • Child Identity theft is just cruel and unusual.

In Canada, we think you're brilliant as well.

These videos are great as usual.

  • thank u, thank u, thank u, am 21 and i can learn from this...God bless u!!!!

  • Thank goodness I watch this today. I graduate this Saturday and was plotting my escape from my folks!

  • LOL!!!!!

  • Ur awesome thank u for sharing this information. I have a master's degree and still have bad credit,no job and list of other things that need to change in my life. I will stay tuned because I need some help!!!

  • In the UK (England) we think you are utterly brilliant!

  • WOW...almost 10,000 messages.....Im glad to have come across this. I subscribe and look at ALL your videos

  • Wow your videos are so very informative for everyone. I really appreciate the time you've taken out of your life to inform anyone who want to know something that didn't work and experiences that have worked. It's great to know someone cares. I had my children at a young age and finances has been an important topic as well as the importance of an education. They got it and I thank God they did. Thank you very much Kimmay

  • Thank you for being you! I appreciate all the information you give. I learn alot from your videos whether hair or finance :) Please keep doing what you do!

  • I love your "symbol" of success response. Unfortunately growing up in a prodimantely African American community "symbols" of success are so important. Sometimes those "symbols" of success can ruin our lives and put us in worse circumstances than we already are in. Thank you SO MUCH for this. I will be calling my creditors today. (nervous as heck) LOL

  • Amazing videos and topics.

At 21, I was at uni and working every summer earning lots of money, lived at home and so didn't need so much money and guess what I did? I used to share my money with my then bf. He was always running out of money and I felt bad for him. Guess what I did?

I took out a credit card and loan it to him for "rainy days"... Guess what he did? He used up all the available credit... £3000! It took me until I was 25 to get 40% of the money back from him.

  • I definitely agree about living with ones parents for as long as they can until they are really ready to be on their own. I am 27 and still in University right now. I live with my parents and work; so I am saving while I do this. I just got back from studying in London which was great and I know I would not have been able to if I were living on my own.

  • You make us black women PROUD!, you go KIM, you did it girl.

  • This is extremely educational. As a 22 year old I am just fighting to survive. I'm ignoring the calls from the collectors because they are not providing me with any type of leverage when I DO answer. It's so hard and I had a break down just recently. I haven't been able to finish school and it just seems like the career I want to pursue is becoming just a dream.

  • Great video! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • Thank you so much for doing this series, I cant wait for part 3.

  • thank you for sharing all this information, your right money is treated like a dirty secret - no one ever talks about it so its refreshing to see someone going against the norm.

It would be extremely inspirational to see how you have managed to turn things around.

  • Great part 2.5 video. It angers me so much to hear about people using their children's credit because they screwed theirs up. Great tips from your viewers also. I moved out at 23 when I felt I was ready and I've told my 21 year old to stay home as long as she needs.

  • Ok, am i the only one that kept pausing the video as the comments scrolled to see if my comment was there? LOL

  • This is great Video. :)

  • It's gotten to the point where I just give you 5 stars before I even watch the vids...wow, keep it up!

  • 5 stars!

  • I love this series thank you I have my student loan to pay and at the time I finish school I was not making enough to strech to my loan hence I have not seen my income tax return in over 4yrs. sad but true :( I can't wait to hear your advice on money and marriage & home owner or trying to get into the home owner market, as this is a dream I am currently working on. thanks again stay blessed.

  • I wish I had those advices then... Thank you so much for bringing some light on this financial journey.

  • Belated Happy Birthday Kimmay! The dress was so cute on you and the guest room was fab!

  • Thank you for including my comment in the video.

I think this video can influence a lot of young people (and some older ones). I plan on sharing it with my brother because the advice coming from our parents and his big sis' isn't enough. I didn't make too many big purchases in my 20s, but the little decisions stack up big time.

  • Kimmay, good follow-up vid! I look forward to that vid regarding "graduate elites". Being a person looking from the outside in, I noticed how college graduates do befriend other graduates. I don't believe its intentional, but due to their social status causes them to interact with others on the same level -- initially a professional relationship.

Also, the vid on money and marriage. I bet that is quite interesting. God bless you for being so open and honest.

  • I am looking forward to the video about the path to home ownership

  • I'm 22 and my friend the same age "moved out" with her boyfriend, their first place. her mom used her name for cable, electric, car insurance, cell phone. my friend knew this when she was home but it damaged her credit so bad! she is 3 months past due on car insurance! she drives a used VW. who knows how much that cell phone bill is!

i'm in grad school and thinking bout my future. i want to buy a house a year or two after i graduate, yes i'm still home (sad face) but i guess it'll pay off

  • Def. excited for more to come!! i used to work in the financial industry also im 21 & bec of the recession, poor money management (eventho i can tell others how to manage theirs) & losing my job debt has consumed me. im too ashamed to discuss it with anyone bec im a proud person and not to mention everyone i know is having a hard time. seeing that i can still potentially own a home which is probably my biggest dream, has inspired me to get on track and face my financial woes head on. Thanks =)

  • Great advice!!! I learned that a former friend was ruining the credit of her TWO year old when my caller ID came up with the name of her baby. Sad!!!

  • I want to thank you for the advice!!!! I'm 19 and I attend college away from home and my mother and other family members tell me all the time to be careful with my finances especially now a days, but it's so different coming form someone else.....I guess Mother really does know best..lol And i will definitely share this with my fellow struggling college friends!

  • Thanks for this series. i sent your vids to my 20 y/o. Maybe he'll listen to you, cause he sure isnt listening to me. I think its awesome that you were able to focus and get your stuff together at such a young age.

  • I liked when you said...... he did not rescue you but elevated your life style, great quote, i LOVED that.

    ;>

  • Wow, Kim. Thank you SOOO much for this series. I am adding it to my favorites, and I'm sure I'll watch this again. You're changing a lot of lives (including mine). I really appreciate it! Thanks again! (And this esp. hit home because I'm a 23 year old nursing college grad about to start working in the next couple of weeks and buy a car and sadly I know very little about credit).

  • Crazy some people need a disclaimer LOL. But yeah, like Suzy O says, pay yourself first. But hey don't forget that in addition to repo'ing your car, for some debts they may take you court and get judgments against you or even get your wages garnished in the case of at least some college loans. Bad credit just won't leave you alone for years and years and years even if your mindset has changed about money.

  • I love you for this! I cant wait until the next video!

  • This is good because I'm actually about to get married and my biggest concern are my debts. I told me finace' about them and he loves me anyway but I'm just interested very interested in how you recovered. Thanks for the videos. I'm actually looking forward to them.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your story. I'll be 30 in a few months and my financial story is somewhat similar to yours.

I have definitely learned from my past and I'm actually grateful that I was able to learn from my horrible choices/experiences.

You're doing a fabulous job and once again thank you for taking the time to share your story with all of us.

  • Thank you for this advice, i will share this with all my friends!!!! you inspire me!

  • Thank you so much for this advice and letting us into your personal world....I am currently restoring my credit and would love to buy a house in two years.....so definitely thanks for the advice!

  • Hey! I am a 31 year old single homeowner. I am also a hardworking black professional, and I have to say that I am very pleased that one of our own has taken the time to empower others. This is a topic that is not discussed enough. You're awesome and you are doing a great job!!! I can't wait for the rest!

  • Oh my! Thank you for the acknowledgement :) I'm so glad that there are resources out there now that are willing to help people in that situation. Back then, my only option was to charge my parents and that wasn't happening. So, please keep going with these vids. They are more valuable than you know.

  • Accolade of 5.0 gives little justice for your work. Well done!

  • Thank you for this series!

  • AWESOME job!! Awesome presentation of the information. They just get better and better. Brilliant way of responding to your comments left and addressing your key points. Not a dull moment. THANK YOU once again!! WOW

  • You are so right balance is so important!!!! I know in my 30's I find myself trying to teach my children about money. they think that becauise we have a nice house and take great vacations that it has been easy but I have some battle scars from my past. I wish I had created a battle plan after highschool!!

  • blomberg has some great financial tools and tips best American kept secret

  • Cool!!!! I wisk i knew half this stuff now. But my credit is already down the drain. Where do you start fixing this?

  • Thanks for this Kimmay! :O)

  • aww, You're welcome, Yophiful!

    :0)

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing your personal experiences. A lot of people are for themselves and their mind set is, " to heck with everybody else, let them find out from personal experience like i did, nobody showed me." It's so nice that you are being so transparent and i personally appreciate that!

  • Hi notsoshy28!

Thank YOU for the support. I have no problem sharing this. I believe my personal story is powerful. At 35 or 40, when my goals are achieved as planned, kimmay is gonna write a book about it! LOL.

  • @kimmaytube I will be the first in line or online to grab a copy!

  • im so glad u are doing this!! its right on time too! im 22 years old and im about to graduate college in may..im going to pharmacy school and i want a car too so i have been trying to figure out what im gonaa do about loans, but after watching ur videos i think i will hold out on the new car and stick to the one i already have thats paid for..its hard but i kno it will b worth it

  • Hi jahoyle!

Excellent decision! See, this is what it is all about. If I can give you inspiration to "delay gratification", then it was all worth it. Part of getting ahead financially is living below your means. Trust. Once you've given yourself a "little" advantage, it goes a looooong way!

  • Hi ManLessAsUsual!

aw, thank you for letting me know. :0)

  • thank You for your advice next week i'll be 23 and i am going to use this helpful information.

  • Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them. I just wanted to ask how you were able to show what you were doing on your computer here on youtube, how do you do that?

  • hey there! :-)

It's called "Camstasia". dotcom. (sorry can't post direct links in the comments) A very nice subscriber told me about it. I'm using the trial version for now and I love it! (I don't know if I'll buy it right now, kinda pricey).

  • Thanks.

  • 5******

  • thank you, Forced2Think!

  • I love money management and writing plans for whoever will let me (family), I am not certified in anything but common sense goes a long way. I love this series!

  • thank you, DariceHumphries!

  • Great video...your series is refreshing to watch and you are giving out much needed info!

Please take your time bc we wouldn't want you stop making your videos...obviously you have a lot going on behind the scenes! Thanks again for sharing your story!

  • aw, thank you jazzy32208!

  • Thank you for another awesome video! :)

  • Thank you, Rdcoaxum!

  • You are doing something really great!!!

  • Thank you, dagbemab!

    I sure hope so. :-)
