I don't know the male singer who did this, but I would be interested also in hearing it. Possibly Poerter Wagoner. However, this song and written and sung by Dolly Parton some forty years ago is excellent. It is for songs like that, she has been considered a true pioneer for women in country music and for women in general.. The Bargain Store was another daring song in its time and still is today.

I always got the feeling this song has mystery undertone. A girlfriend of a close friend likes this song and alway listen to it when she visits him. Have you seen "Dolly in Concert" AKA "Dolly in London", her 1983 concert film? Dolly arrives in London and has to declare herself to a Customs official, I think.

Official: "What is your name?"

Dolly: "Dolly Parton."

Official: "What do you do?"

Dolly: "I'm an entertainer."

It's funny because in America everybody knew who Dolly is but in Britain at the time she had to explain who she was.

I guess Country music is not very popular in Britain but there are some British fans like you.

actually i know the version you are talking about but it isn't the original it was recorded about a year after dolly recorded it. my grandmother also has both versions and i checked the dates. also there is no way that anyone sings this better than dolly i mean the writer is generally not always the better person to sing this song.

Dolly Parton IS the original songwriter.

Dolly Parton wrote "Just Because I'm a Woman" after her husband asked her if he was the first man she had ever had sex with and she said no and he was very hurt. Dolly could have lied to her husband but she chose to be honest.

there is NO earlier version of this song. there is a later version, which i really like even more, that was on a tribute album.

dolly wrote this and recorded it. i had the record, as in REAL records when they made them
