the 706MK1 is a great rig,very solid and the only version with a constant fan. However watch out for D9 and D10 on the filter board as well as Q1 on the P.A they tend to go bad with age and they are 14 years old now!. The VHF filter mod ( clipping a yellow wire by the filters ) works fantastic so you can have general coverage VHF receive.
