Really beautiful movements. Spinning is the most relaxing job I ever known and this video is really "word come to flesh". Excuse me, if this is not the right phrase for it, but I think you know what I mean.

I have been practising spinning with walking wheel for couple of years, but still this video catches by breath. I hope that some day I will get my skills and the flow to this point as shown in this video.

my husband just bought me a wheel similar to the one shown here--- but I don't have the part where the spool is. I have spun on an Ashford with a treadle-- so this is an adjustment for me. But it is a beautiful wheel. I just need someone to help me through it alittle.

I received a Great Wheel for my bday years ago before I had any interest in spinning. I've now caught the spinning bug though and am researching like crazy. The 1st thing I thought of was my wheel. I had no idea what kind it was or if it is even complete and I'm not sure what you are to use for the drive band?

I'd like to learn more about my wheel & would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

Very nice, good angle and distance of the camera, it's easy to see what's happening, unlike a lot of other spinning videos. Beautiful! I also like the music selection, it really does make it seem like some sort of serene dance.

I wonder though, that your wheel diameter must be huge, all the other great wheel videos I've watched, they seem to be spinning faster than you. But seeing your singles up close makes me wonder if they're reaaally overtwisting. Thank you for sharing!

My Great Wheel has an acceleration head, and as a result, I don't have to spin the wheel as fast or as much as a Great Wheels with a direct drive. The singles do not suffer from overtwist, as one stays far behind the draft, as well as the point of twist....hope this helps you to understand the process!

Thank you for sharing this, I am transfixed and hypnotised, watching it over and over. I have been a hand spinner for more than a decade and it is wonderful to see someone spinning so beautifully on a Great Wheel. I have several wheels and spindles, but watching this has consolidated my wish to make myself a Great Wheel! (I am also a fine cabinet maker so don't feel daunted by the project). The Great Wheel can spin very fast, some are equipped with an acceleration head.

Also, some of us like to spin for historical demonstrations.

Besides, they make lovely woolen yarn.

I just got my own great wheel & was trying to get the hang of it...it only needed new leather bearings and some old. I think I get it now.

Mine does not have the accelerated head, has the bearings but not the pulley/shaft. I'll check the link you listed below. I'm a drop spinner in a house full of wheel spinners, now I have the biggest and smallest wheels.

Have you tried Angora on your wheel? ... that's the wool we have "plenty of". We have Giant, French and Satin Angora Rabbits.

The spinning head is called an accelerating head, or Miners Head. Mine was broken and was restored by Fred Hatton. He sometimes sells completely restored heads on etsy. finnsheep.etsy.
