  • I absulutly love that my friend.Musik at its best!!

  • maclaguhin was tripping differently, but he joined the tabla´s tripping then...and then the tabla man joined his trip

    and then...

  • god selva and zakir have so much chemistry...love how zakir fills those pockets in the beginning.

  • Well, saw them in Dusseldorf, stunning music, worst lights that killed all the atmosphere. But if you closed your eyes it was pure love...

  • These guys are so fast. They just went ahead and the video started lagging

  • thats what i call jamming, wicked one !!!!

  • @darrensam1 YES! universal peace and love.

  • beautiful usage of kanjira by selvaganesh....pt zakir hussain and u srinivas were amazing....

  • John plays with precision and melodic, harmonic and rhythmic intelligence.

  • Can anyone tab this please???? yes, I want a shortcut! Because this is one of those few cases where it's actually hard! Esp. the nuances .....

  • Does anybody wanna blow up India? Do let me know ..........

  • @kafcin No!

  • @invertedchords Yeah, I was replying to itowedin (Some reason din't show up as a reply) , His seemed like a charged statement, but now I can see it was probably not.. Though, please, my parents live there, so if you wanna blow it up, gimme a warning... *sarcastic obviously*

  • I thought it was VishnuJana McLaughlin? I like what you said, itowedin. Whenever we drum, or better, engage in sankirtana, ie congregational singing the Names of Krishna, we only want more . Who could be bothered with war? But the alien elites push too much.

  • Superb!

  • One of the bests in the world, John McLaughlin ...

  • ...wow... that was amazing

  • very nice ! です.

  • great guitarist love this sound for guitar

  • this was sooo awesome! :)

  • Orgasm

  • Anyone know the album this is off of?

  • mclaughlin comes up with such great phrases, yeah that hurdy gurdy is awesome, that thing has been called the medevil synthesizer so ominous sounding in the background moaning

  • I miss the "shakti" guitar :(

  • Espetacular...quase que se adormece com este som...

  • Love it! I'm glad that McLaughlin has found Trilok Gurtu as well. McLaughlin was there in the beginning along with others such as Joe Zawinul, the pioneer in jazz fusion regarding the use of electric keyboards.

I'm so excited because McLaughlin is coming to Sweden now!!

  • Yes i gathered the distinction, however as i earlier stated i prefer the acoustic performances better. And despite what incarnation he performs in i find it odd he does not use the guitar he had developed for this specific genre.

But none the less it is an excellent show.

    OM

  • The Master of Fusion. He was there at it's inception with Miles and Chic. What a truly diverse musician.

    OMMM

  • @brwnhornet59 Don't forget Herbie

  • @YouKnowDatGuy

Sorry Brother, you are soooo right!

  • Pheww... thanks god I was fortunate enough to see 'em 10 years ago or so.

    Never forgot this experience.

  • This is not shakti.. Its "Remembering Shakti" .. thats why John does not have his shakti guitar

  • love. I could be happy anywhere with tis music..

  • sounds like What need have I for this, What need have I for that" definitely related phrasing.

one of the absolute best Mclaughlin videos I've ever seen.

Television production/ editing is as beautiful as I've ever seen for fusion/jazz performance.

    outstanding thanx.

  • So totally sick... so fucking cool....

  • No shit. He does resemble Walter on "Fringe". I love that show. But i love Shakti more. However i do prefer the acoustic Shakti over an electric guitar Shakti, any day. Still the masters are at work. Peace

  • beautiful - thank you!

  • he looks like that mad scientist from the show Fringe.

  • I'll just never grow tired of the sound of those tablas

  • @keithdoeskungfu : I agree.

  • This is a very interesting piece; a nice blend of traditional Indian music, a bit of jazz, and funk.

  • I really miss his custom Shakti guitar....

  • Me too! He is always great and I appreciate it all. But I miss the real acoustic guitar with a mic. The electric stuff is just not the same. I feel the same way about his nylon string timbre. Its a plugged in sound. Just the guitar nad the mic Maestro. It sounds better.

  • yep

  • Superb perfrmance!

    5/5 for sharing.

  • Wow

  • are any videos in sync anymore?

  • If you use Firefox, and the Download Helper add on. Save the vid to your HD. Then, most decent video players should allow you to adjust the sync. ;-)

    Hope this helps.

  • i agree... many many videos lately are totally out of sync and this is one of them

  • BRILLIANT!!!!!

  • AAnd this if why it's called fusion

  • Zakir Hussain and John McLaughlin playing together.

Someone shoot me, because I can't imagine life gets any better than this.

  • that's what you get when you put not 1 but 2 "lightgivers" playing togheter!

  • you're being a bit too melodramatic don't you think?!

  • I'm being hyperbolic

  • hyperbolodramatic

  • This was wicked!!!

If you liked it, check out Zakir Hussain playing with various artists and produced by Bill Laswell on

    PBS Soundstage

  • So, who's Shakti? Or is it metaphorically speaking? I know Shakti means sacred force for the divine feminine aspect, but is it someone he's playing with, too?

  • Shakti is the name of the band

  • at amazon they have a JML box 5 cd theres a cd from shakti with it

  • how about these guys invite guitar prasanna for a jam? would love to see John and Prasanna hack it out..

  • I was just thinking of the same thinking when I noticed your comment. John and Prasanna are not in the same genre but it will be a great treat to the listeners

  • What a groove - It really can't be better

  • BRUTHA ZAKIR. FONKY.

  • ZAKIR hussain is sick in this with John Mclaughlin

  • John Mc Laughlin, bien puede ser otro de los seres iluminados, que nos proporcionan eso que buscamos...

  • Favoloso!!!!!!!

  • obra maestra

    una de tantas DESDE CHILE

  • I fucking love John McLaughlin. Never heard someone play so goddamn fast. It's hard to hear all the notes he's playing!

  • this is "To Bop or Not to Bop" from "Industrial Zen" - so it's actually much older than I thought..

  • grosucelmic... what are you referring to? Not familiar w/ "industrial zen"

  • Industrial Zen is John's 2006 album. It features a piece "To Bop or Not to Bop" that has this same melody.

  • right except it's called "To Bop Or Not To Be" as in Be-Bop

  • thanks, I stand corrected

  • I see this song live in 2000 at the Montreal Jazz Festival and it was recorded that year on the Remember Shakti phase album called 'The Believer'. It's name is really Finding the Way.

First album having Srinivas on mandolin with Shakti

  • What's cool about this piece is think about the main riff. I could totally see James Brown singing over that with funk drums behind it. Our cultures aren't so different after all.

  • Yeah man- I hear James too, screamin out

    something like "HA!!"

This tune is really great X0

  • Great video, thank you - I forgot of my work!!! Does anybody knows if Mr.McLaughlin comes to North America any soon?

  • I love the drone of the hurdy gurdy. One thing musicinas understand that politicians do not is if you sit and participate in a circle like this, it's really hard to want to blow up the other persons country.

  • @itowedin You are so correct in that statement.

  • @itowedin

    Very sure...

  • @itowedin but in muysic iluminatis doesnt need oil and sacrifice as they at the bohemian grove or making 9/11

i ask everyone to watch the lecture DEBUNKING 9/11 DEBUNKING

  • @GabrielDhalaman 9/11 conspiracy is yesterdays news. Get lost and let us enjoy the music. It's the weekend man, go find a girl.

  • @itowedin no,it is tomorrow news...wake the fuck up

argue about it after turning off cnn and fox...

lets supose i am an engineer and you are a dentist wanting to discuss about my profession, well you will need something to do it...

anyway, its better to listen to the music, anout that you are right,Foxboy

  • zakir hussain is a madman!

  • is the bloke on the right the drummer who does the gateway to rhythm with john??

  • yep he sure is!!

  • ty for this video thaaank u soo much :)

  • wow what a piece....

john in his younger days inherited the jamming psychie from his guru miles davis...isn't it great to see him do the same today.

  • great music , great vid - thanx !!!

    :-)

..you wonna maybe see/hear how to improvise classical music in new aesthetic..?

look for video : "bach sarabande jazz guitar" -

    maybe you ll like it..

    :-) !

  • What a beat

  • Tabla and kanjira "dialoge" is great!

  • This is one of my favorite compositions! and I'm so glad finding it here. Thanks!

  • Wah Ustad !!!!! lakalakalakalakalaka...
