  • epic !

  • it seems that the trunks are quite flexible huh? was kinda hoping I can make one =(

  • @tomokochins Very! This tree developed really well over the following year then went to live in Spain.

    G.

  • tell me....whats this music?

  • What's the best looking tree for bonsai raise????

  • graham, is a shohin's soil something like grayish?

  • @Rinne13X Depends upon it's make up. See the article on our web site regarding Choosing Soil for Bonsai.

    G.

  • I would like to say that I have watched many of Graham's videos and that the work Graham does on trees is amazing. I know some of you think that it is "Brutal" and/or unnatural to do some of the things he does. The tree here isn't being murdered, it is alive and well. He knows when to quit and he rests his trees for many years sometimes if the tree needs it. The imagination and vision of this artist (Graham) is what makes his Bonsai a style of his own and some of the most beautiful pieces of art

  • Can you please tell me what is the name of your music ?

  • @blufire33

Davy Spillane - Dreaming Of The Bones (Instrumental)

  • wonderful piece!

It might sound stupid, but how do you recognize the part of the bark that transports the life-liquids to the twig? Or is it just a matter of leaving some anywhere on the trunk?

  • Tell me, Graham, how do you justify the inverse taper of that "knob" on this tree? I can't see it.

  • Awesome

  • i read that bonsai was about unity of man and nature, i see that it is more about man dominating nature and manipulating nature how he sees fit.

  • @IDontWantYourCereal

Looking at Japanese vids, it's a Western thing ! Watch the 'Art of Bonsai' series - beautiful trees that look like trees - then look at that nurseries 'for export' list - all shiny white pine/juniper sharis/jins that look like gloss paint ! Exposed wood in nature turns a soft grey, and the foliage doesn't look like it's been visited by a hedge-trimmer.

You WILL get some naturally incredible twisted trunks and branches, but 'we' then turn them into something very man-made.

  • He's good, but he cuts things up way too much. Not all bonsai's need to look like this. Also at the end, the Photo Shopping of what it is supposed to look like isn't very creative. It takes away from the bonsai.

  • hei whats the music you had in this video?

  • poor tree : (

  • so amazing <3

  • would you be able to make a bonsai from some kinde of herb, like basil?

and why'd you use copper wire?

  • @CARBOMBTASTIC In short the answer is yes. But it need to be an herb that has a woody "trunk" like rosemary or thyme. I have a nice little shohin rosemary that sits nicely in my kitchen window all winter (outside in summer of course). Actually you can use any type of wire you want that will hold the branch. Cooper and aluminum is readily available. I like the copper because it "blends in" better with the tree trunk.

  • @CARBOMBTASTIC You can make bonsai from herbs such as Rosemary and thyme but not Basil as it does not produce woody stems.

  • what is the tree at the start? The one with the rock?

  • Absolutely beautiful!

I want to start my bonsai from scratch(from seed), always loved citrus, have some orange and lemon pits, never tried it before, wish me luck, master.

  • @Playborn Trident maple.

    G.

  • Maravilloso.

  • wow, you made that ugly branch into something amazing.

  • Just Stunning O.o!

  • great stuff graham

  • very good looking tree :)

  • I think you have the most chill job in the world

  • After styling Graham would you leave the tree alone for a year (obviously watching for the wire biting in of course) to recover then work on ramification AFTER the wire has done it's job?

  • @bonsa1guy Yes,absolutely.

    G.

  • im not a massive fan of the trees you use, but i love your videos and demonstrations. you are a great bonsai artist.

  • how long would the wires on that have to stay on there?

  • @DANATRINGWOOD Normally for a year - or when the wire is pinching the branch

  • Thank you.... Your work makes tears; seem easy and less complicated. Just, overwhelming in the best since of the word. Please keep working; truly living art at it's finest.

    Thanks again

  • that's beautiful...Great work!

  • this has to be the most amazing video I've seen in a very long time. 5 stars.

  • U are a piece of art .

  • somehow, I wasn't expecting bonsai to be quite so brutal...

  • @rozniy I dont think it should be - Im not a big fan of his Bonsai to be honest.

  • @rozniy It doesn't have to be.

  • fantastico!!!!!!

  • excellent, great music in the vids too, keep 'em coming

    congratulations for you job....

  • Amazing work.

  • i want the very small one at the beginning! amazing!

  • I kind of feel sorry for the tree....... looks a bit savage to me

  • @wceagles81 The trees like this. All in life does better with discipline and training. The mind, most of all.

  • How long do you usually leave the bracing for?

  • what did you wrap round at 4:50?

  • how do you get them to twist like that? (the tree at first on the right) i cnt find a vid on wiring?

  • My name is Granville and I have studied shohin under Bill Brieten and David Goscinski in a lineage going back to yuji yoshimura in fact my first workshop was with Yugi in NJ. Your the real deal your trees you use wire and hard cuts they have style and not just brooms! I had a larch just like that that I was training in my garden and lost it when I had to sel my house in the winter )-: your work with dead wood great!

  • Can someone give me a name of other people that have the same quality video's that GrahamWpotter has ?

    Thanks!

  • You do some great work. I hope in time, I can do the same.

  • Awesome work. There seems to be a lot of good artists in England, Scotland Ireland... I'm here in Raleigh NC. I've been training for about six years now, every year my collection grows. I always say, I'll sell these and reduce my stock... It's easier said than done! The trees become priceless to the curator...

  • This video evoked a lot of revelatory emotions in me.

  • one would think that the tree would die with all of the work done to it, but i guess they don't.

  • plz tell me! can you use normal erth or mod or how you call it, is iy absolutly nessesary to youse bonsai soil...?

  • depends on the type of the tree , but you want your soil to be able to keep moisture, contain nutrients , have a good drainage and help root development. I use a mixture of clay , nutrient rich soil and sand , with tiny pebbles on the bottom of the pot to keep the soil in the pot. Works well for me

  • thanks =)

  • Beautiful Bonsai!

    But ouch!

I like jins, but they seem so painful for the tree :(

  • hi is there something that you put on the trunk after you carve your tree? or will it heal its self? ps: nice job!

  • Wow ... I love your videos and how you simply make the tree bend to your design ... simply gorgeous!

  • How long did it take for it to start sprouting new growth, and how long did it take for the wiring to be done?

  • Hello Graham! your videos are amazing, but you wiat a lot of time betwin video and video.

All of us are waitting for one more of your lessons!

  • @damixzn he travels and does demos all over the world thats how i got him to work on this yew i have. but i do wish his videos were closer together

  • Man, what an artist!!

  • What kind of bits are you using? Right now I use a dremel and they dont seem to have the bits that you are using. What are they called and where might I be able to purchase them online?

  • Hi everything I use in my videos is available from our web site kaizenbonsai. com.

    G.

  • @GrahamWPotter Ya I was looking at your site and was hoping if I could run through what I wanted to get to make sure I got everything I really needed in 1 go since I live in the U.S. and wanted just 1 shipment.

I was thinking of getting 1x weasel 101A, 1x abrasive polishing wheel, a termite. I already have a lot of bits used for more detail work that you can find at any hardware store. I wanted to order anything I wont find anywhere else other than your store, any other suggestions?.

  • can you check my channel and give some comments on my video of my home-made bonsai(jupiner). i'm beginner and want some tips if possible, thanks!

  • fuckin artist

  • Using a torch burns off small fibers from the carving process and opens up the hardwood grain for weathering. The bends aren't as severe as they might first appear. This is a larch - the Gumby of trees. Even fairly thick branches are quite flexible. The entire trick is bending them at the appropriate time. Bent at the wrong time can knock off buds, kill a branch, or even kill the entire tree. DItto w/repotting.

  • wht kind of wire are you using??
