saw about a hundred shows at the centrum....tween 1978 and 1990 or so..... 90 minute drive from NH seacoast....these guys played the Orpheum a lot too...
@WrathchildNH LOL!! I LOVED THE ORPHEUM!! I GOT KICKED OUT when roger daltry played there in 1983... i was so bummed , minutes later, i bumped into a tourist girl from florida and we went back to her hotel and we screwed!! OHHHHYEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
@finefilth HEY.....I was at that show..... I was home on leave from Alaska when I was in the Army..... and for all I know I mighta met one too.... I think that was one of the nights how I got back to New Hampshire is still a mystery....ever see the Fools there?????
@Theire1 one of the best tunes by anybody Freeze Frame was pathetic.....I was pissed when I bought it and listened......Blow yer Face out is my favorite ......wore out like 3 copies on vinyl
the older crowd gettin' fucked up at the concert having a great party time... i was too young to get alcohol or weed but got high just the same... j. geils was always a party when they played in detroit. ;)
J. Geils was one of my first concerts also.... got high, was offered MDA and to this day from Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, The Who, Marianne Faithfull, Laurie Anderson, Lucinda Williams and so on, Geils ranks near the top. Nothing like a house party...
My 1st Geils concert was in the mid 70's (dating myself too Karl lol ) , got high BEFORE the concert and it was the BEST ever. Saw them 2 more times! Growing up in Detroit we loved the J Geils Band....thanks Karl!!
@JoeAble72 My first concert was actually Hank Williams Jr. Got high at the show, first time in my life, by just breathing. Spent most of the show in the rafters making out with my best friend's sister. Those were the days.
I am a child of the late 70's, early 80's, from Boston, and I think Sanctuary is my favorite Geils album!!! Love Stinks tour was my first concert in 82 at the old Boston Garden!!! I still have the Tee Shirt!!!
@yesmeetoo This is in my Top 5 for sure. My favorite is Monkey Island though. I discovered J Geils in the early 80s, in my early teens. I was astounded to discover they had much better 70s albums after being used to their 80s Pop stuff.
@yesmeetoo I am of the 50's and 60's and originally from the Beantown area also. I saw these guys many times at the "Boston Tea Party" and also at the "Gardens". You missed out---I remember when Peter Wolf used to DJ live at nights from the "Boston Tea Party" through WBCN--FM 104.1 back in '68-'69. Awesome times! This is definitely one of Geils best!
I grew up listening to Monkey Island & Blow Your Face Out (thanks Dad)....Santuary was/is my favorite....I even had the honor of dancing with the wolfman on stage at Boston Garden....waaaaay back when I was 16
This is such a catchy, hard-rocking song. I love it! One of the those songs I always have to play all the way through, and at a loud volume. The only problem I have is the lyric "Just suck it all! Ejaculation!" It's cool, in a way, but kind of stupid.
i got to see them twice. 10/9/81 opening for the rolling stones in l.a. (also on the bill were george thorogood and PRINCE!). i also saw them in march 1982 at the la sports arena with U2 opening up! HAPPY B-DAY PETER WOLF!
Best song they ever did. Back when they were awesome. I don't begrudge them the dough they made for Centerfold, Love Stinks, etc. but it damn sure was a different band. Thanks for posting an amazing classic.
@mistrcoffe Thank you for the comment! When I first started getting into Geils in high school in the early 80s it was because of Freeze Frame. Later after I got more into the band (And my favorites emerged as Monkey Island and Blow Your Face Out) I was amazed at just how different they sounded.
I actually saw U2 open for these guys in West Palm Beach in 1982.
