  • ...............They all have something very important to say. Of course this interview was a while ago now and the fact that the occupy movement has grown so big just proves Peter Hitchens wrong in my opinion.

  • Peter Hitchens has no idea about the occupy movement. What he says about letting the campers experience real discomfort is total rubish: some of them already have experienced real poverty and hardship, living on the streets, having nothing to eat, no where to go to. On the other hand some of the protesters are well off and quite priviledged, and are trying to juggle a full time job, a family and other aspects of life while standing up for what they believe in! .....................

  • I'm a student and I agree with Peter Hitchens!

  • I agree with everything Peter Hitchens says. I've never understood why we take so much interest in what students think. Students are children: most of them have never paid taxes, raised a family, etc. and a lot of them will never have done a day's work in their life. Go to university, travel the world, work hard for 20 years, and then come back when you may have something vaguely interesting to say.

  • The caller after Hitchens alluded to the fact that Hitchens hadn't been there. Hitchens explained that he'd spent rather a lot of time down there...

  • You know what really amazes me about this occupy movement now? There is one in Belfast. Fucking Belfast! What the hell. We used to have have decent protests, now there are just a bunch of scruffy looking blokes outside St. Anne's Cathedral, heating up a tin of baked beans in their tents. Dear God, I'm telling ya, now that Belfast is involved it can go global. The govt is really worried now, I'm telling ya!

  • No. Peter Hitchens is exactly correct in everything he says in this interview. Having been down myself, my opinions were exactly the same as his (I went before his visit). I could not put it better than he has done in this interview.

  • No one is against Capitalism, so the phony iPod comments are pure crap. This is about corruption in government. And the solutions is to remove corruption from government. To get the financial business, the banking industry, and general industry under control, to enforce environmental regulations, to prevent fraud in investing.

Corruption is the problem, not capitalism.

  • Peter Hitchens, who is the first person to speak, is full of crap. He is an admitted Conservative, meaning, he supports the rich to the detriment of the poor & middle class. Naturally he denigrates those protesting the corruption that he strives to preserve. Naturally he supports the corruption that puts money in his pocket. This is not about the rich being rich, this is about corruption. This is about the undue influence of big business money and favoritism in government.

  • How did I miss this? I usually listen to LBC.

  • Brits should be outraged that Emma West is in jail.

  • I bet peter hitchens though the Libyan and Egyptian protesters has no right to protest againt their dictatorial governement as they had no political voice...

  • Christopher hitchens > Peter hitchens. Myles was excellent as always.

  • Wait... that guy met Einstein? I guess that means... wait, that doesn't mean anything. That was /really/ part of your argument? Oh lawd. Also, don't insult Christopher Hitchens' baby brother, his points actually made sense. No point responding to anything else, PHitchens already destroyed all your points before you even started; anyone who thinks otherwise is kididng themself. And, chances are, unemployed and leeching off the state.

  • Peter Hitchens has gone to the soap-dodger camp.

  • Nearly any twit can now make his/her voice heard and consequently nearly every twit does, myself included. What do the occupiers represent? Certainly not the 99% they claim; no one I know - certainly no gainfully employed adult i know - has the time for such a blatant and utter waste of time. I disagree with much I have heard P. Hitchens say or write, but not in this case. While the occupiers I have met have been friendly, they make no sense and present no rational ideas.

  • @Vide1et1lacrima Yes your right they are pretty pathetic.

  • Great job

  • Oh yeah and Myles good job, you expressed yourself very well. Probably not the right environment to expound on your resource based economy ideas though ;)

  • Great stuff!

  • They said the Mail on Sunday... I immediately decided that Myles is going to 'pwn' him... now I am finding out if thats what actually happens. Comment back then.

  • @Onifos Haha I already knew Hitchens was a Tory but I didn't think he'd go so far as writing for the Mail, dirty scummy paper that it is. He's a smart guy but he's too dismissive of young ideas.

  • @jdenicholls He is not a Tory, he regularly writes about his hate for the Tory party. And socialism is not that young it was tried and it failed and it broke in 1991.

  • Those were some excellent points that you and the other gentleman made Myles.

    .

You get a FIVE star thumbs up for the guy in the striped shirt.

  • I'm only three minutes in and am just so irritated at this Peter Hitchens guy. It seems that everything he's saying is a bunch of rubbish. I'm going to carry on listening to the end of the video but this is the reason I don't watch things such as BBC news anymore. I get wounq up too easily by ignorant people

  • A solution: MONEY FOR JOBS AND EDUCATION, NOT WAR AND OCCUPATION

  • What a load of rubbish Myles ! cut him off @ most important part, scared are you ? about moving to resource based system !

You no different to any other main stream media, you have your own personal agenda and you wanna protect it, I given up listening to your show now.

  • Listened to the whole thing, and you were great!

  • omg the Mail guy was like a parody of himself, lmao.

  • Very well spoken-got your point across without sounding angry or unrealistic (with a perfectly hidden "fuck the mainstream" mentality) lol. Loved it.

  • And you surely spoke out, as well. oO Your verbal-skills are truly impressive...! (Though not surprised, being I've followed you for quite some time) How do you manage without getting a dry mouth, curled up tongue (and stuff like that) and yet make total sense? Surely he felt your gratitude, somehow.

  • What a revoltingly ignorant, arrogant, truculent, smug little douchenozzle Peter Hitchens is. His assessment of that racist rag The Mail on Sunday as a 'sensible conservative newspaper' is interestingly reminiscent of Hitler & Mussolini loving Mail publisher Lord Rothermere's words of support for fascist knucklefuck Oswald Mosley and his "sound, commonsense, conservative doctrine" in his notorious article for The Daily Mail 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts'.

  • I think it is awesome that you are able to speak up about the issue. Honestly the future scares me-I know that it is important to be a part of the education process and to help work towards solutions. I also know that it takes many people to make a movement successful. There are many small steps people can do to help out-like donating food/supplies, writing letters to officials, or talking with people (most of the protesters are very peaceful people).

  • This Peter Hitchens is a prick!

  • Peter Hitchens is a cunt.

  • And this is the venus pro... *cuts off* :@... well done myles! really enjoyed this! Good Job!

  • Awesome job myles you really got alot in there well done. brillaint

  • Great Job! .... thanks Myles.

  • Just wanted to say that you were fabulous and it was amazing you called in, hopefully some people listened and you got more people to think about the protests in a positive way.

I also thought I would mention how much i admire your ability to care, the way that you don't get discouraged the way so many do by how much there is to do and how much there is stopping you. You keep trying to get poeple to listen. I just wanted to say how much i appreciate that and how inspiring it is.

  • I think Peter Hitchens raised some interesting and correct points, as did Myles.

  • lol, i love you Myles :) i love what you do :)

  • It's a shame you got cut short there, you made some great points, but as a listener of LBC myself, i hear alot of people talk so quickly to get all their points in, half of what they say sounds like mumbling crap. I think if you want to get your point across better, a much better approach would be something like question time; but i obviously dont know how hard it is to get onto that show :)

  • If I was just listening to the radio and Myles came on I would flip shit.

  • Great points raised and you came out strong dude.

  • Good Job Myles, excellent talking points.

  • @Blade376 i liked your first videos that were all crazy and i just thought you were a regular guy, but when i watched your occupy wall street vids i went hloy shit this guys deep and intelligent

  • You spoke so well, I get so nervous in these kinds of situatoins! What kind of station is LBC?

  • Peter is totally opposite to is brother. What happened to him I wonder? Shame at the end that when you started to talk about a RBE it always gets shut down due to time. Hearing that a lot lately. Keep the fight going. Love and solidarity from Occupy Christchruch, New Zealand and TZMNZ Chapter

  • I say it all the time Myles: You are a credit to humanity. I like how you have the confidence to publicly plug TVP / TZM. I think there is a lot of intelligent individuals that understand that the ideas put forth from TVP are complete common sense, but due to careerism are afraid to make that giant leap and say outright that this is something we should be taking a closer look at.

  • Excellent.

  • @StevenAndFrame its cool :) haha

  • you tell 'em myles!

  • I am so happy their are no dislikes at this point!

  • This was fantastic Myles. You are a great spokesmen for many in the occupy movement. I'm glad you made the point that it's not an anti-capitalist movement per-say.

  • You're a natural speaker. I love how you can voice your opinion so naturally, tis rare. I'd need to plan and construct an essay to say what I want! haha

  • It's sad to think that people like Myles, the voice of reason, willing to bend and adapt to enhance his own understanding, and allow us to understand his point of view, but not force it on us, has a smaller following than a guy reviewing copyrighted videos online.

  • @gowanlock I hate RWJ, but I wanted to point out that, while the videos are copyright, he has permission to use each and every one of them, so... that point is kinda pointless.

  • I've been constantly having debates with my family about this whole occupy movement recently (they've only really been exposed to the mainstream media representation of it). I'm going to show this to them, and also your playlist.

  • Peter Hitchens is a fucking cunt wow

  • I believe the resource-based economy would be ideal. The problem is getting there. People's mindset would have to change. Unfortunately the majority of people in today's world are too competitive for the resource-based economy to thrive. Everyone would still be trying to get more than their neighbor.

I would want to live in Jaque Fresco's society, but to be honest I have little hope that we can get there, and it makes me want to cry.

  • Also why is everyone obsessing over the fact that protesters are buying Starbucks coffee? Just because they are drinking a coffee made by a large corporation doesn't mean they support it's ethics and it certainly doesn't forfeit their right to have an opinion.

  • The guys speaking at the beginning is an idiot; "Why does that give them any more right than OAPs who fought for this country and are now broke and never say anything?" The whole point of the occupy movements is to give a voice to the voiceless and look out for the interests of all people. This guy seems to think that the protesters are doing this for personnel gain, it is quite obviously for mutual gain.

  • I think you said it best when you mentioned petitions and emails being ignored and the public feeling of apathy when it comes to the government. I remember the campaigns against rises in student tuition fees, selling off of the national forests and woodland and cuts to various things. My housemate recently received a letter from his MP replying to a demand for the robin hood tax to be implemented- the MP said that David Cameron wasn't just ignoring the public, but many members of parliament too.

  • * I meant to say, WHEN HE SAYS THE PROTESTERS ARE A BUNCH OF STUPID PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT NOTHING, IT MAKES ME WONDER IF CORPORATIONS ARE SPONSORING HIM.

I really should have proof-read that before posting it

  • Well, I want to know who is paying for this guy. Anyone can see that there is a problem with the way our society is run today. When the protesters are a bunch of stupid people complaining about absolutely nothing, it makes me wonder if corporations are sponsoring him. I have no idea who this guy is, but I can already tell you that I do not like him.

  • I'm not gonna lie, sometimes your 'I Want To Change The World' videos annoy the hell out of me. But, your opinions on the 'Occupy' situations, I really agree with!

  • @MonkeyThunder5 You have every right not to like me personally. But I guess my question about that would be 'Do they ends justify the means?' - because if I didn't feel openly passionate about wanting to change the world, I wouldn't have addressed the occupy issues like I did in this conversation. =]

  • @Blade376 Oh no, I have nothing against you personally.

I think your intentions are friggin' fantastic and very honorable but, how can I explain it.. if you'll allow me to quote something you once said "This world is the responsibility of everyone" and my honest opinion is that very few people want that responsibility so the grumpy old curmudgeon in me says "Why bother?"

That might not make sense and it is kinda hard to explain, but please don't think I have anything against you personally.

  • Myles, I used to think you were crazy buy recently you've earned my complete respect.

  • @CosmicScaleFactor Oh no, you are right - I am crazy. I'm just crazy in the constructive sense; I don't kill people.

  • Iain Dale is a very good presenter on LBC he does let people make thier point without interrupting.

  • Brilliantly said Myles! You are so articulate and your points are really excellent.

Did he cut you off at the end there though?

  • Anyone watching from the beginning, take my advice and skip the Mail on Sunday guy. His opinion is worth less than the shit I had this morning, and that one only took two wipes.

Miles, however, delivered many great points as fluently as ever. The host seemed pretty well adjusted also, it's a shame he had to cut Miles short to get to the news, just as he was getting into the RBE stuff. Great interview.

  • You are a brilliant orator - I admire your fluency.

  • @StevenAndFrame peter*

  • Peter Hitchens is well known right wing nutjob.

  • haha you completely K-OED him :')

  • Yes Myles!

  • Did the Constitution of the United States of America have a solution? Not really. It had a list of demands, changes that they were demanding to happen. It also had a lot of complaints about the way that they were being treated. How is the Occupy protest any different? They want change. They might not suggest how to bring about change, but then again, the Constitution sets out rather simplistic goals that don't explain how change will be brought about. What makes this less respectable?

  • @Stoudman the fact that the majority of what the occupy protesters are doing is sleeping and doing drugs and the people that created the constitution actually created something by working on it and talking to each other not by sleeping in tents in a park.

  • @veganmadi Why don't you just say "the fact that the people who wrote the constitution were all wealthy white men who had the time, money and power to be able to do what they did"? Again, they didn't really lay out too many plans for how things would get done in the Constitution, they just complained about the British and gave some rough outlines of what they wanted. Oh, and if you think it was really that much of a group effort, you are sadly mistaken.

  • Very well said. I will direct people here cause you truly are accurate on the matter.

  • Well that was great, although you didn't quite give him a chance to speak much there :P.

  • @kimrichaaards That is true and I felt bad straight afterwards. But had both passion and nerves coursing through my veins at the time. My bad! =D

  • @Blade376 Actually i quite like that you spoke more than Mr Dale. Not to be rude to him or anything but I value your opinions much more than his :p.

  • Comment removed

  • @Blade376 nah that was beautiful, you blew him out of the water and when he came to the same conclusion that everyone comes up with ("Well in the end") you had a beautiful response! I hope that ever one that hears this is as inspired as I am.

  • i listened live :)

  • Well said mate, Good effort as always. Hopefully somebody(s) out there listened and heard what you said.

  • Well done myles. Sounded really direct and confident. Nice balls!

  • Simply awesome.

  • I listened to this live :D

  • 6 :L

  • 11. "Putting together 100 or 200 tents with people sleeping in them overnight, that doesn't actually achieve anything in itself".

Rubbish. The reclamation of spaces is an important political end on its own - trying to delegitimize any politics with doesn't go through a parliamentary system shows precisely what the trouble is with our culture.
