That was in the Duel arena, anyway this video is almost a year old so I just filmed the animation & uploaded it wasn't meant to be a hole fight or anything just wanted to get it up as quick as possible..

Nope, its only losses charges if you use them and you can recharge them its like normal equipment not like burrows.

Dragons charge the shield, when you fight them with the shield on and they blast you with fire that counts as one charge.
