Sugar beets have to be the future of sugar. I have seen sugar cane harvest in South Florida and Louisiana - it's miserable. Virtually slave labor in 100 degree heat and 100% humidity cutting stalks with machetes in the snakes and bugs. Then getting the stalks onto trucks. Sugar beets are ridiculously easy compared to that!
My late farther had a beet harvester excatly the same as that, brings back memories of me waitng at the end of the field with my hi lift beet trailer for another tank full of beet
Its a pity that the sugar beet factory closed at York, I remember the smell and some people loved it others hated it but it seemed to go with the area.
Yes the trusty, historic standen cyclone is still at work. If they hadn't closed the sugarbeet factory at York we would probably still be growing sugarbeet! I'm glad you like this machine - it's nearly an antique!
The historic standen cyclone is still on work in england! I might have dreamed it! i Thoought that the last standen on the world works in my country (greece). we grow up on a harvester like this but now the damed globalization forced us to abadone our job What a pitty...

You guys must only do a couple hundred acres, if that, huh? Interesting harvester. 3 row? 4? That would make for a lot of rounds. Great vid.

Hi MNFoxtrot,
We don't grow much sugarbeet. The harvester is quite old and tends to stop and start! Thanks for your comment.

Hi Top Veg,
Yes this was a historic moment for the farm - the end of sugar beet harvesting - so I'm glad we caught it on video. Thanks for your comment.
