  • Wolves are my favorite canines followed by the Tamaskan, a breed of dog that looks an awful lot like wolves. Jed the Wolf-Dog from The Journey Of Natty Gann and White Fang is my favorite animal actor. Jed was 3/4 wolf and 1/4 malamute which I find ironic since the character wolf White Fang he played in 1991 was that way as well with no dog markings physically. I wish that Jed had reprised his role as White Fang in White Fang II Myth Of The White Wolf in 1994 since he was still alive at the time.

  • Well, I feel like an idea. This actually made me cry, which means, you did a good job! :]

  • This is so wonderful! Thanks for posting!

  • So beautiful and interesting! Thanks for sharing it !

  • HEE :P Me Name is ok Charlotte :P

    xD

  • hey! play it at 1:09 the wolf looks like aniu out of balto!

  • i Love these breed and i had 1 just 28 days ago it died :'(, it was 90% wolf and 10% german shepherd

  • Actually Jed was 25% wolf. And there were 2 wolfdogs that played the part of White Fang in the original Disney production. Jed (25%) wolf/malamute played most of the parts and then Chinook (50%) wolf/malamute played the more wild parts. Look closey at the differences between the 2 White Fangs in the "wild" cabin scene where Jack tries to unchain him (Chinook)and then the curly tailed White Fang (Jed) that rescued Jack and had the gold dust on his paws. Both were awesome well-trained wolfdogs.

  • @moogoesthewolf how would u know wolfdogs can curl and uncurl thier tails wenever they want 2 and jed is wolf and husky

  • I am sorry but respectfully you are wrong. Jed is my favorite animal actor. He was 3/4 wolf and 1/4 malamute. I find that ironic since the character wolf White Fang he played in 1991 was that way as well with no dog markings physically. Perhaps sources you that received information from were wrong. Thank you for pointing out Chinook. I had no knowledge of him. I wish that Jed had reprised his role as White Fang in White Fang II Myth Of The White Wolf in 1994 since he was still alive at the time.

  • Shame that people have to find something to argue about, even in something like a canine breed. Is this how wars start? Do I need to buy a tank, or do you think it might not get that serious? Lol!!!

  • Yeah, guys. I mean, do you think Jed cared if he was half-wolf or just a malamute?

  • @Azuriyuu jed wolf and husky

  • WTF

  • all you so called breed experts crack me up. Malamutes don't have any "dominant gene" controlling their tail! It's a trait taught by akc breeders for the show ring because it looks "PRETTY". The dog in white fang was a malamute because when the film was made, wolves were still on the endagered list and therefore it was illegal to use a dog more than 50% wolf.

oh and Jed was half wolf and half Malamute.

  • Its difficult to find that movie now, but there is a DVD with that movie and an older movie together.

  • Search here for "the thing-norwegian" hes the alaskan malamute playing a husky thats being chased and shot at.

  • Watch "the thing" the 1983 version, Jed played a husky in it. You will see him without the trim and makeup. Ive seen enough malamutes to know he was one the first time I saw him. Not all malamutes are AKC standard either, many are much larger.Heck, my Siberian fits the AKC standard for malamutes.

  • do you know where i can find the movie at

  • He was pure malamute, he was trimmed, spray makeup added, and made to look as "wolfy" as possible. Your right, the head, the snout, the ears, the body build, the chest, the legs, everything is all wrong to be a wolf or wolfdog.

  • Actually many malamutes like many huskies do not curl their tails, its not a breed trait, its an AKC breed trait, the AKC added a curled tail to both descriptions because it was prettier.

  • I don't have a name I'm only black wolf =)

  • Jenna is my wolf name...

  • Whitfang was played by a pure malamute in the movie, named Jed.

  • He may have been crossed with German shepherd.

  • Jed was a malamute, his owner (the guy with the whip in the movie) and the production company made that clear years ago. Jed played in "The Thing", "White Fang", a movie about a rock band, and Natty Gann, all released between 1983 and 1991.

  • Malamutes have a curled tail when they walk.

And as near as I can, this is a dominant trait.

My guess is he's actually a Malamute cross, but probably not with wolf.

Malamutes aren't that trainable, and wolves are even less so.

  • I want you to look at pictures of pure malamutes using google images. Notice the tail.

Now, Alaskan huskies, which are a type, not a breed, are bred to have their tails carried down, simply because when you breed dogs to carry their tails over their backs you shorten their backs. That's not good for a dog designed for pulling.

  • I've never actually seen a malamute with an uncurled tail. Let me make this clear-- there's no way this dog is a wolf or a wolfdog.

But I've never seen a pure Malamute that didn't carry its tail over its back when it walked. Now, it's possible that if you had a rare recessive that didn't carry the tail.

His head is too small to be a wolf!

  • Jed was a half wolf and half malamute.

  • Watch the video "thing the norwegian" the malamute playing the part of being chased by the norwegian guy and shot at is Jed, his first movie. HE WAS 100% pure Alaskan Malamute. See him without the makeup and with his natural untrimmed coat, its obvious.

    Too many people believe rumors.

  • actually, um, no he wasn't. He was actually advertised as a "wolf hybrid" rather than a malamute mix. He was never once referred to as a malamute either. except by people who didn't know any better. the movie "white fang" was actually produced by hybrid productions... named after the hybrid wolf star, JED. get your facts straight moron.

  • You little child are the moron, his owner is the guy in the movie who has the whip, he is also the trainer, both owner and the production company made it clear years ago that he is a malmute.

  • well, did you know wolves are the only physically comparable canine to a husky,malemute,chinook...do you know the difference between a wolf and a dog???? its the end of this convo...their tail wolves tail's are NEVER EVER CURLED!!! EVER they dont curl them at any point.malemutes, hukies and other sledge dogs do that.

  • White fang is half wolf half dog, like in the original book

  • hey white fang is my wolf name!

  • Excelent !

  • fantastic

  • wolves are amazing creatures so organized yet so mysterious and inteliigent

  • I love them too but dont forget they would just as soon eat ya for dinner :)

  • Wolves would never attack a human for no reason. only if they feel threatened.

  • or if they were hungry HAHAHA but I mostly said that as a joke so yeah!

  • i'm tryin to find the movie of white fang.this story rocks!

  • this rocks charlotte keep it up
