The funny thing is McFly did an almost note-for-note copy of the song, not really a "re-make" of the song in their own style (if they even have one). I would think that's a bit of a tribute to the original band, that they did such a definitive version there really wasn't much way to improve or build on it.
This is the ORIGINAL version and was penned, among many MANY others, by Jellyfish. Andy's voice can do acrobatics around just about any other singer alive. To embrace all the elements that pop music had to offer and recycle, and polish them up the way Jellyfish did was a first (during the 80's and early 90's), and ushered in the return of all twelve notes. Yes, the video fails.
why people will probably think McFly is better is because this video is shit and would prob put me off because they all look gay, HOWEVER jellyfish are musically tallented and mcfly aren't really 2nd mcfly didn't write this song so...

WORD! I like the fact that McFly has some taste in covering a GREAT band! T say Mcfly's version is better, is ridiculous! STURMER, MANNING are AWESOME! Andy's faking himself out on his own drumming. NICE! I always felt that he played some unusual and tricky patterns. That's what you call true taste. On a side note, McFly does bring in a more updated version, mixing in a boy-band/punk feel so it's expected for some to enjoy the newer approach as opposed to the original- typical! I remember feeling the same way about Jellyfish doing remakes of their own- Wings and.. well more wings- the Beatles! I haven't heard any BB's/Queen/PartridgeF.haa!

i think with covers you just tend to prefer whatever version you heard first. personally i heard the mcfly version first and while they didn't really change anything from the original it somehow sounds 'brighter' and i like it better. but props to jellyfish for writing an awesome song to begin with =) as for the video...i'm sure it was cool and innovative in the early '90s. ;)
i have to agree with jez. this version is good, yeah, but the original isn't always the better version. mcflys version just appeals to the younger audience. and Jacket, it's not only 12 year olds who like mcfly. i'm 18 and i love them, so yeah, sod off.

The McFly versions isn't bad, but its sounds like "covering" by numbers - Jellyfish were pure genius. But having said that I was around with the Jellyfish army in the 90s - that's my point of reference - if yours is the McFly era that's cool - but do give JF a listen - they were truely fantastic.
This version's equally as good as McFly's. I don't think I could pick between the two. Though, the original does come a bit higher because it is, after all, the first and real version.

Mcfly's is ok. Kinda bland, though. This version, by the guys who actually wrote the song, is fun and has a lot of wonderful sounds coming together. The entire Bellybutton album is excellent.

I think this a great tune even if McFly covered it!
McFly's version is a bit more pucnhier,...and more dramatic which makes it sound allot better than the original,..even though they haven't in a sense,..changed it that much(if that makes much sense!)

When people get upset sometimes for other bands covering songs, then why?
They obviously do that becuase they like the song and look up to the band who wrote it.
Personally, i think i like the McFLY-version better, and that´s just me. :P

i think with covers you just tend to prefer whatever version you heard first. personally i heard the mcfly version first and while they didn't really change anything from the original it somehow sounds 'brighter' and i like it better. but props to jellyfish for writing an awesome song to begin with =) as for the video...i'm sure it was cool and innovative in the early '90s. ;)

i have to agree with jez. this version is good, yeah, but the original isn't always the better version. mcflys version just appeals to the younger audience. and Jacket, it's not only 12 year olds who like mcfly. i'm 18 and i love them, so yeah, sod off.

I like it, it sounds good, but when I first heard baby's coming back, I thought it was mcflys song because they sang it so well they sing it well 2 but in a different kind of well. So, jellyfish definately gained publicity from this! :)

I can't believe the people (and newspapers!) are reporting that the songwriter of McFly (name I dunno!) is making a fortune for his songwriting skills..including this! I LOVED Jellyfish and have their albums..in fact I forgot about this tune until I heard the cover & thought I have heard that before and heard it better too!
McFly's version is rubbish..but its for the pre teens lets face it..!! Well done for posting this video!!!

The McFly versions isn't bad, but its sounds like "covering" by numbers - Jellyfish were pure genius. But having said that I was around with the Jellyfish army in the 90s - that's my point of reference - if yours is the McFly era that's cool - but do give JF a listen - they were truely fantastic.

Mcfly's is ok. Kinda bland, though. This version, by the guys who actually wrote the song, is fun and has a lot of wonderful sounds coming together. The entire Bellybutton album is excellent.
