  • The bassoons = Monty Pythons Ministry of Silly Walks' answer to the Fuehrer ?

  • @musoderelict

Don't know? I can't recall that sketch, or maybe I never saw it.

  • Question. Is it the added-6th chord at the end that offends people? also I understand Stravinsky incorporated materials he previously wrote for film-music.

  • ¿Qué tiene todo el mundo contra el final de esta sinfonía? a mí me gusta...

  • I've always wondered about the ending of the Symphony in 3 Movements, too. It's silly.

Check out the end of the first movement of the Symphony in C: it's the opposite effect. After a chuckling period, he seems to ask, "You think I'm kidding?" and delivers a series of blows to the head.

  • Why did he tack on that goofy Hollywood, Busby Berkeley style ending? What a come down!!

  • @stickershomeplus Actually, it was intended as a satire of the Nazis (specifically the bassoon fugue). Read up on it, but it's actually a tour de force of parody and triumph.

  • @stickershomeplus As a kid I never thought of the ending as a joke, just like the end of Shostakovich 5. I thought he said he was trying to express the jubilance at the Allied victory? You think he was having us on?
