To me, the boy is a symbol of teenagers in society, and his piano, a burden. Bonded to the piano, the teen progresses through his years, fighting the burden of his life.

This is visually represented by the piano's damaging and eventual destruction during his journey. However, the teen endures strong and unstable emotions through this phase. These are also shown through the disconcerting music, avant-garde sound-effects, and shaking ground.
